GRADUATION LICENSURE AND RESIDENCY The culminating event of medical school is receiving the MD behind your name. There are five graduation dates in a year, and one Commencement Ceremony in the month of May, welcoming MDs into the profession of medicine. This formal event is a ceremony where friends and family gather to watch the students individually cross the stage and be hooded (receiving their academic stole) by other faculty physicians. Graduates join in reciting the Hippocratic Oath while they are reminded of their new professional rights and responsibilities. IAU graduates have matched at coveted residencies through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) and the Canadian Resident Matching Services (CaRMS). IAU is proud of its graduates, who demonstrate their preparedness by obtaining residencies in some of the most competitive programs in North America. As the Affordable Care Act is executed and more baby boomers retire, there is a greater need for primary care physicians, that IAU graduates are more than capable of fulfilling. The IAU experience transforms aspiring students into the leading scholars of the future.
