Isabel + Helen are graduates of BA Graphic Design Communication at Chelsea College of Arts, and a creative partnership working within the realms of 3d design; from editorial set design through to large-scale interactive installations. Best known for their graphic style, the pair’s work mixes big ideas with simple pleasures, and one of their first projects was a commission by the V&A to create an interactive Constructivist playground based on the Russian design movement. Other clients include Tate Modern, Selfridges and The Conran Shop. Irina Wang was raised in Florida before moving to London, where she graduated from Chelsea College of Arts in 2015 and now works as a graphic designer at Pentagram. Irina enjoys merging aesthetics with academia and whilst studying at Chelsea, won a Mead Fellowship for her final-year major project, designing for endangered language revitalisation to aid native communities in resisting hegemony and monoculture. In this project, Irina designed educational materials that enable children in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, southeastern Bangladesh, to learn their native language, Marma. Zoë Taylor is an illustrator who has collaborated with Marc by Marc Jacobs, The Guardian, the New York Times, Luella Bartley, anothermag.com and many others. She was a Pick Me <strong>Up</strong> Select in 2015 and her first comic, Joyride was published by Breakdown Press in 2016. Zoë is a graduate of BA Illustration at Camberwell College of Arts and she also has a MA in Communication Art and Design from the Royal College of Art and a BA in Ancient History and Architecture from University College London. Cade Featherstone is a BA Graphic Design graduate from Central Saint Martins. Since graduating, Cade has determinedly applied a non-specialist approach and utilises an interdisciplinary skill set to traverse multiple creative arenas. This has led him to work across everything from games design to motion graphics, concept art to video editing. In 2016, Cade won a D&AD New Blood Award for an eye-catching window display designed in response to a John Lewis brief. He currently works in an art department for film and TV.
12:00 Session #02: Disrupting the future Polina Hononova is a Russian-born graphic designer and a graduate from BA Graphic Design at Chelsea College of Arts. Since graduating, she has worked on many different projects including identity, packaging and web design, with her main areas of interest being typography and layout. Polina combines and balances typographic craft with a concept-led approach. Polina won a black pencil at the 2016 D&AD New Blood Awards for ‘Retro Serif’, her typographic design-led project about the revival of abolished Russian glyphs. Chris Shipton is a graduate from Camberwell College of Arts and creates cartoons and visualisations for businesses. When he draws in front of large groups of people it’s called live illustration, graphic recording or scribing. Chris works on a broad range of events for a diverse set of clients, including conferences, meetings and gatherings covering subjects as varied as transport infrastructure, global health, financial markets and future planning. Tobias Revell is an artist and designer. Spanning different media and genres, his work addresses failed utopias, rogue actors, unexplained phenomena, and the idea of technology as territory. Tobias is Senior Lecturer in Critical and Digital Design at the London College of Communication, <strong>UAL</strong>. He is a co-founder of research consultancy Strange Telemetry and one-half of research and curatorial project Haunted Machines. Tobias lectures and exhibits internationally, and has recently appeared at Improving Reality, FutureEverything, IMPAKT Utrecht, Web Directions Sydney, Transmediale Berlin and Lift Geneva. He is a PhD candidate in design at Goldsmiths.
