(Digitally Augmented YEG) Project Version 3 is on Sir Winston Churchill Square, and Guru College is an official Works venue where you can see the "Tradigital" work of Guru faculty and students on display. Organizing and implementing the many dimensions of this festival takes the efforts of an entire community, and so this year’s theme is a natural expression of how The Works has come together annually since 1986. From June 21 - July 3, arts collectives such as Indigeneity and EN MASSE will energize Sir Winston Churchill Square with live collaborative art making. Meanwhile, in The Works alternative venues downtown, art comes alive in exhibits exploring the relationships that inform an artist’s practice. Art Around Town venues partner once again to present diverse and compelling programs, representative of the work galleries do year round, and highlighting the vitality of Edmonton`s Art & Design community. The evident connections are few compared to the many collaborators and contributors that bring depth to your art & design experience at The Works. Thank you to all. As president of The Works International Visual Arts Society, it is my pleasure and honour to welcome you to the 2012 Works Art & Design Festival, now celebrating 27 years of visual art and design, exhibits, performances and festival activities in the heart of downtown Edmonton. The Works is the largest free outdoor art and design festival in North America. Last year it attracted 359,000 people, enjoying more than 700 works of art, by 537 artists, featured in 43 exhibits, spread out over 27 exhibit sites. That’s a lot of art! This year, the theme of the festival is ENERGY II - Collaboration, highlighting social and environmental consciousness, and featuring The Works Canadian Aboriginal Artists Program. Come and enjoy the colour, excitement and enthusiasm of the festival, and the contributions of artists from Edmonton, across Canada and from around the World.
