FroviDdal <strong>of</strong> ihc Holy Cross Fathers' Indiana<br />

Province, as our principal speaker. Father Mchling<br />

told us about the plans for the new Seminary to<br />

be constructed on tlic campus and pointed to the<br />

importance <strong>of</strong> the Scminar>' building program as<br />

a key to the future development <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong>.<br />

Following the dinner and talk by Father Mchling<br />

everyone enjoyed llic recently filmed movie <strong>of</strong><br />

campus life.<br />

The annual <strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong> Man-Of-The-Ycar Award<br />

was presented at part <strong>of</strong> the USD Night celebration.<br />

This year's recipient u-as AL RAVARINO.<br />

The award was presented by last year's Man-Of-<br />

The-Year, RICHARD MUCKERMAN. In making<br />

the presentation to this year's Man <strong>of</strong> the Year it<br />

was pointed out that Al has been a keystone in<br />

the St. Louis altunni ever since he became a part<br />

<strong>of</strong> it. He has served on \irtually cvcr>' standing<br />

committee and has held cver>' <strong>of</strong>licc in the club.<br />

Anotlier highlight <strong>of</strong> tlie evening was the presentation<br />

<strong>of</strong> certificates to all past presidents <strong>of</strong> the<br />

club, numbering some twenty men in all.<br />

Following UND Night the club's new administration<br />

moved into <strong>of</strong>fice. JOHN HIGGINS succeeds<br />

Don Dohcny in tlie <strong>of</strong>lice <strong>of</strong> president. OLLIE<br />

HINSM.AN will be Wee president - public relations,<br />

TOM McGUIRE will serve as vice president -<br />

activities, HANK DAHM is the new \-ice president -<br />

committees, and DON RATCHFORD is secretar>-treasurcr.<br />

Our scliolarship committee diairman, JOE GO-<br />

LABOWSKI, has announced the selection <strong>of</strong> this<br />

year's four-year scholarship winner. \VILLL\M<br />

KLASNER, a senior at ^farquctte High School in<br />

Alton, Illinois u-as selected from among twenty<br />

nominees for the award. The scliolarship program<br />

was begun by the club in 1948. Five students from<br />

the Metropolitan St. Louis area arc now enrolled<br />

at the <strong>University</strong> under the program.<br />

A group o! some thirty club members were priWleged<br />

to be among the first group <strong>of</strong> rctreatants<br />

to open the new Lady <strong>of</strong> Fatima Retreat House on<br />

the <strong>University</strong> campus the weekend <strong>of</strong> May 10.<br />

The trip was handled by Retreat Chairman JACK<br />

SULLIVAN and member? VINCE FEHLIG, FRANK<br />

POLLNOW, ED GRIESEDIECK, OLLIE HINS-<br />

MAN and PAUL FEHLIG. All who made the trip<br />

to the campus for the retreat came home with high<br />

praises for the new facilities and hope to make the<br />

retreat an annual affair for themselves and the<br />

club.<br />

SALINA—President Robert McAuliffc presents<br />

the cluVs contribution <strong>of</strong> $1,000 to<br />

Rev, Edmund P. Joyce, C.S.C., executive<br />

\*ice-presidcnt <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong>, at a combined<br />

meetincr <strong>of</strong> Wichita and Salina alumni.<br />

Upcoming events for the dub indude our annual<br />

things for the outing. Next on the calendar<br />

after the picntc will be our July Golf Tournament<br />

Tlie Saginau- Valley <strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong> Club held its |<br />

anntial election durins the Universal <strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong> ^<br />

Night meeting, April 29, <strong>1957</strong>, at the Hickory I<br />

House, Midland, Micliigan. The Midland mem- i<br />

bers did an outstanding Job as hosts for the ^<br />

evening.<br />

Salina<br />

Tlic Salina <strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong> Club recently contributed<br />

$1,000 to the <strong>University</strong> which was a restricted<br />

gift for the new seminary. The contribution will<br />

be used as an * "appreciation gift" in honor <strong>of</strong><br />

FATHER BACHOFER, CS.C. BOB McAULIFFE,<br />

club president, presented the check to FATHER<br />

EDMUND P. JOYCE at the AMchita Club's UND<br />

Night meeting. Others from the local club who<br />

attended the affair included NORB SKELLEY,<br />

TO.M FOOTE, JIM FOLEY, ^rr. and Mrs. AL<br />

SCHWARTZ, Mr. and ifrs. AL McLE^VN and<br />

Mrs. McAuliffe.<br />

New members <strong>of</strong> the club include TOM KEN­<br />

NEDY, '51, who was recently discharged from the<br />

Army and is now with the firm <strong>of</strong> Kennedy and<br />

Coe in Salina, and LT. JOHN VACHRIS who h<br />

stationed at the Air Force Base in Salina.<br />

San Antonio<br />

The San Antonio <strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong> ^Mumni Club<br />

celebrated Universal <strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong> Night on May 15,<br />

in the Anacacho Room <strong>of</strong> tlie St. Anthony Hotel<br />

here in San Antonio. Guest speaker was F.ATHER<br />

JOSEPH RICK, CS.C. Father Joe presented<br />

an interesting an entertaining background story<br />

on the program <strong>of</strong> the Congregation <strong>of</strong> the Holy<br />

Cross. He concluded his address with a few remarks<br />

on <strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong>'s plans for future development,<br />

to tic in with the film "<strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong>," which<br />

was shovv*n to our guests. Tliis film was excellent<br />

and was enjoyed immensely by everyone. We were<br />

very fortunate to have Father Rick because we<br />
