Welcome to the celebration of International Women’s Day 2017 in
«Solidarity with African Women».
Today’s event is primarily a fundraiser for a clean water project in rural Burundi but also a show of solidarity
with children and women in rural Burundi. As you may or may not know in many countries, women and children,
once they are old enough, are responsible for finding and collecting water for their families. All the water
they need for drinking, washing, cooking, cleaning. They walk many miles, carry heavy burdens, wait for hours
and may even have to pay exorbitant prices. The work is backbreaking and all-consuming. Often the water is
contaminated, even deadly. In these instances, they face an impossible choice – certain death without water or
possible death from illness. Your generous donations today will go towards supporting the Gazelle Foundation
in building a water fountain, a project that will be beneficial to an entire community without distinction. So, we
invite you to place bids on the many items we have in our silent auction throughout the afternoon.
I think you owe yourselves a round of applause for deciding to be a part of positive
change.
