PROMINENT SCHOLARS 

Gaya Harari, HESEG 

Gaya, 25 years old, finished her 2nd year in the Law Faculty 

of Bar Ilan University. She is on the Dean's list and was 

rated first amongst the other honoraries. Gaya is the 

research assistant of the Law Faculty Dean Professor 

Shahar Lifshtiz, she edits the academic journal of the 

faculty (" Law Studies") and this year she initiated a 

student enterprise that combines all law students in 

Israel (the establishment of a Magazine for articles written by students). In 

addition to her work and success in the academic aspect, Gaya volunteers 

as a coordinator in "The Social Guard"- an organization that’s aim is to 

promote socially responsible legislation and to empower Israeli citizens to 

get politically personally involved. In the past, Gaya volunteered with youth 

at risk from Shapira neighborhood, a field that is very important to her. 

Lior Touil, HESEG 

Lior, 26 years old, grew up in Hakfar Hayarok (no 

connection to his family), a Youth Village for 

Environmental Leadership, finished his studies there in 

excellence and served in the IDF as a fighter in Flotilla 13. 

He is finishing his studies this year in the Management 

and Communication track in The College of Management. 

Lior was recently chosen as the Chairman of the Student 

Union in his College against all odds after a long and respectful campaign 

management. 

On top of the above, Lior volunteers every year in summer camps for kids 

with special needs in Israel and abroad.

Yoav Shefer’s Story - HESEG MA Scholar, accepted this year 

Yoav was born in the United States, to American parents and was involved in the 

Jewish community life. He was an apprentice and a counselor in “NFTY”, a reform 

youth movement in the United States of America. Yoav and his twin brother came to 

Israel together for 11th grade and studied in Kibbutz Tzuba after which they decided 

to make Aliya. 

Yoav served in the Nahal Brigade. He finished the track, and became a martial arts 

counselor. He got injured while doing his army service, and is acknowledged as a 

disabled IDF veteran, he served for two and a half years. Yoav signed up to for an 

Undergraduate (BA) in Hebrew University, but had to go back to the US in order to go 

through several surgeries as a result of his injury. 

Throughout this period, Yoav’s twin brother was killed in a car accident. In light of 

his brother’s involvement with Hillel on Campus, they decided to commemorate him 

by establishing a fund that encourages Israeli- Palestinian Dialogue. Yoav runs this 

fund since 2010. He came back to Israel to study, and worked as a parliamentary 

assistant for the Member of the Knesset Einat Wilf. As a result of deterioration in his 

family’s well being, Yoav did his undergraduate (BA) in Harvard University in Social 

Sciences. He completed his studies December 2015, while winning several awards. 

This year, Yoav signed up for an MA in the field of International Relations in Tel Aviv 

University, and aspires to continue on to a Doctorate. Among his goals, is to become 

a professor and to continue his work in the fund in memory of his brother.

200 scholars, a total of 520 receiving scholars throughout the years 

(till 2016). 

Ruppin 

23 scholars from the Ethiopian community, learning intercultural mediation 

in Ruppin Academic Center. A total of 240 students received scholarships in 

this project in the past few years.

HESEG ALUMNI NETWORKING APP 

This App is a new application built for 

HESEG Alumni and scholars in their last 

year of their degree. 

The App's goal is to strengthen the 

relationships within the HESEG Alumni 

community and to reinforce their 

connection to HESEG. 

The HESEG Alumni community holds more 

than 900 members, all academics, with 

advanced degrees from a variety of fields. 

Each of HESEG's graduates has qualities 

and skills that are expressed on the 

occupational level, the entrepreneurship 

level, in their involvement in the 

community and in life in general. 

The application is another means of Networking amongst the alumni so that 

they can help each other in issues regarding their professional future as well 

as collaborating in business and social projects.

HESEG ALUMNI FUND 

Goals: 

HESEG Alumni Fund was established in order to support social enterprises 

and to encourage involvement in the HESEG Alumni community, while 

creating social activities and developing connections amongst our 

graduates. The Alumni Fund raises money from its members and the project 

in which they invest is decided by the donating alumni. 

At the beginning of 2016, the Alumni Fund completed its fundraising and 

held a vote in order to determine what organization to invest in. The 

fundraising done by the Alumni Fund was “matched” up by Gerry and 

Heather. The chosen project was “Tsevet Lochamin” i.e. “Combat Team”. 

This is a project that one of HESEG’s 

graduates, Bernardo Tsiriniki, started. 

Its objective is to prepare Olim 

Chadashim, (newcomers to Israel) 

for their army service. The donation 

will enable them to purchase medical 

equipment, which is critical for 

the continuation of their training 

and funding of the first aid course 

they run. Thanks to this donation, 

“Tsevet Lochamim” can continue 

and give preparation courses to Olim 

Chadashim on a high and professional 

level while abiding by the strict 

security rules.

ALUMNI GIVE BACK - 'MEAMENTOR' 

Training HESEG Alumni to be mentors for HESEG scholars 

At the end of September we completed the 2nd Meamentor course. 

Throughout the course HESEG Alumni gained coaching tools. We are proud 

to state that 25 of our Alumni are already part of the Meamentor reservoir. 

Meamentor Graduate, Maya Epstein, HESEG Graduate year 2009: 

"Meamentor is not only a course, it is a personal process as well as a 

group process in which we learned about the possibility one has to create 

change in his own life. The course gives tools and a different way to look 

at accompanying change and implementing it in life. On top of that, 

accompanying a scholar is special and fulfilling- to know that I created a 

change and helped someone else, it is the best feeling in the world! We 

had a great group and we keep in touch until today, we help each other and 

the scholars. Highly recommended!"

ANNUAL ALUMNI EVENT 

The most recent Alumni event took place August 1st 2016, attended by fresh 

graduates and old graduates. HESEG Alumni currently has 810 members and 

will grow by approximately 100 more in the coming year. 

The subject of the event was "Sharing is Caring": 5 HESEG Graduates gave 

TED style lectures. Dror Aharon, HESEG Graduate year 2013, spoke about 

"Why it is worthwhile falling in love with the truth and not with the idea". 

Sarit Gabay, HESEG Graduate year 2012, spoke about "How to bridge between 

fear and courage". Dror Doron, HESEG Graduate year 2015, spoke about how 

it feels when two worlds collide. Arthur Shani, HESEG Graduate year 2012, 

shared a story about "making dreams come true". Lionel Benziri, HESEG 

Graduate year 2011, spoke about "How to look at life as a startup".

PROMINENT ALUMNI 

Pearl Nicole, HESEG Graduate year 2014 

29 years old, grew up in France, and currently lives in 

Jerusalem. Pearl's experience surrounds three central axes: 

sociological- political research, spokesmanship and leading 

social projects. 

In the coming year Pearl will start her Doctorate in the 

Jewish Statesmanship Center as an Outstanding Doctorate 

student. She will research the mutual influence of discourse 

and radical Jewish action in Israel in the decade after the Disengagement 

from Gaza. 

In the past two years, Pearl finished her degree in with Honors, wrote 

a thesis on the dynamic and discourse of the "Im Tirtsu" organization's 

struggle. Pearl was the first spokesperson for "Resisim" project, and lead 

the project to International negotiations amongst young Israeli's and 

Palestinian's. She educated homeless youth in center Jerusalem and worked 

at The Harry S. Truman Institute for the Advancement of Peace on the topic 

of "the economic aspect of the conflict" with other Israeli- Palestinian 

researchers. 

Meni Kevin, HESEG Graduate year 2016 

Meni Kevin, 27 years old, born to a Haredi family and part 

of a religious frame work until the age of 21. Right after 

his release from the army, he completed, with great effort 

and at the age of 24 (!) basic studies and the required 

Bagrut and was accepted as a Bio-Technology student in 

Hadassa College, Jerusalem. Meni finished three years on 

the Dean's list and his third year his average was 99. After 

he graduated, Meni decided to go after his dream, and 

applied to the four year Medical program. Currently, Meni volunteers in the 

Hadassa Hospital in Ein Carem.

Sara Malka, HESEG Graduate year 2016 

Sara Malka, 27 years old, finished her studies in chemical 

engineering specializing in Water and Environment in 

Shenkar College. 

Sara was on the Dean's list twice throughout her studies, 

her second and third year. Today, she volunteers at the 

Israel Cancer Association and supports the sick personally. 

SOCIAL EXCELLENCE STORY 

Sara Brembaum, HESEG Graduate year 2015 

The enterprise "Integralia"- (integration and Aliya) was 

established a year and a half ago by Sara Brembaum 

(HESEG Graduate), Ilan Israel (HESEG Scholar) and Joel 

Zira. "Inשtegralia" was established to help young Olim 

from France to integrate and adjust in the best way 

possible into Israeli society. 

The three entrepreneurs made Aliya 7 years ago, and 

today, in light of their experience, are helping the new Olim in their 

adjustment process in Israel. 

"Integralia"'s activities vary and include learning Hebrew in original ways, 

exposure to the Israeli culture through unique meetings, encouraging them 

to develop an Israeli identity and being socially involved.

HIP - HESEG INNOVATION PROGRAM 

We are currently starting our 4th year of HIP. The program developed and 

empowered three grades of entrepreneurs. 

Here is one example: 

Jetta 

Developed by HESEG Graduates, Mika Shatz and 

Karin Savitsky: 

Jetta Ltd. is a marketplace where travelers with 

nonrefundable but transferable flight tickets can 

re-coop some of their costs. The platform provides a 

solution for someone who stuck with an airfare ticket and allowes travelers 

to find a better deal. 

Two monthes ago the company was invested in Parnasa fund (Besadno 

Group). The company today is worth $1.2M.

The program gives additional tools to a chosen group of scholars and

ACTIVITIES AT HESEG HOUSE 

SCHOLARS INITIATIVES 

Shishi Beshekel 

Throughout 2016 a new social initiative 

by HESEG scholars and Alumni- Shishi 

Beshekel- second hand clothing bazaar 

(money earned was donated). 

In preparation for this event, hundreds 

of garments were donated and collected 

by HESEG scholars and graduates, some 

totally new! 

Friday morning a second hand event was held in HESEG House that included 

refreshments, music and a great atmosphere. Throughout the event the 

scholars and graduates bought clothing for a symbolic price of 1NIS only. 

This event delivered a donation of approx. 2500NIS. The money along with 

the remaining clothing was donated to "Makom Acher"- a dormitory that 

receives and takes care of youth at risk. 

Friday Nights at HESEG 

In the past year, a new and wonderful tradition has formed in HESEG, 

initiated solely by our scholars-a joint Shabbat meal in HESEG House. 

This Initiative came up out of the scholars need for Friday Night meals 

together, and because not everyone has a place to have a Friday night 

meal, they have decided to form a community meal together. 

The scholars cooked, baked, and cleaned up afterwards. It was a great 

success!

HESEG ENRICHMENT PROGRAM 

HESEG Foundation has a goal to become a cultural center and to expose 

HESEG scholars and graduates to the wide range of fields of study 

while encouraging curiosity, interest, thought and creation in a unique 

environment and on the highest level possible: 

1. Learning professional and personal tools 

2. Knowledge enrichment through exposure to relevant topics 

3. Exposure to a wide range of fields while encouraging curiosity, interest, 

thought and excellence 

4. Strengthening significant community ties that contribute to the pride of 

being part of HESEG 

5. Assistance in finding jobs 

Statistics and general data: 

50% of those attending workshops are Alumni; the remaining 50% are 

scholars 

12-20 scholars and Alumni on average take part in each workshop 

60 workshops were held up until now, this year 

48 hours - the average time from opening the workshop (in order to sign 

up) until closure 

9.2 (on a latter from 1 to 10) is the average feedback on a workshop

HESEG CAREER CENTER 

This year, we have decided to upgrade our activity in the career center as a 

result of the growing number of HESEG Alumni. We want to make sure our 

scholars integrate well in the job market. 

The next actions have been taken: 

• Advertising job offers on HESEG's career facebook page 

• HESEG Networking - Panels and meetings of Alumni on career related 

issues, Alumni sharing posts on the career Facebook page 

• Employers market conference in HESEG House with the participation of 

Government Offices, HR companies and employers 

• Spotlight days on behalf of the Prime Minister's office - February 2017 

• Career advisement - one on one meeting's at HESEG office. Since July 

2016 until today we have had 

70 career advisement meetings, 

an average of 10 meetings per 

month 

• Forming collaboration's with 

leading employers from a variety 

of fields in order to up their 

percentage of being accepted to 

these kinds of jobs 

• Building a unique internship 

program for HESEG law students 

of 2017 in leading Law Firms in 

Israel

NEW INITIATIVES 

THE SOCIAL LEADERSHIP PROGRAM - 

HESEG IN THE COMMUNITY 

The program aims to combine the quality and quantity of HESEG Alumni and 

scholars and in that way contribute to the community and meet their needs: 

• To bring HESEG scholar's volunteer work to be managed from 

HESEG and its scholars, the scholars will volunteer in a concentrated way 

in HESEG activities 

• To make our scholars better citizens through teaching them about the 

conflicts, tears and challenges the Israeli society faces, while learning 

about Jewish history, and the history of the Jewish State 

• To create familiarity amongst HESEG scholars via joint volunteer work 

• While doing activities together, we hope HESEG scholars will feel a sense 

of belonging and of commitment to HESEG Foundation as well as pride in 

being part of HESEG 

• Empowerment and development of leadership qualities 

• To create a deep sense of meaning to their residence, environment and 

community they live in 

• Forming a layer of population that is commited and active in improving 

Israeli society 

• Social Leadership Program 

The program has 2 main stages: 

1. During the first stage, the scholars will go through comprehensive 

training including developing leadership skills while acknowledging and 

understanding the core subjects and general history of the Jewish People 

and the Israeli State 

2. The second stage is a result of the first one. The scholars will lead a 

volunteering program including initiation, organization and management 

The program will open March 2017.

HESEG OPERATION'S ROOM 

HESEG Public Diplomacy 

The idea in this project is to initiate a new HESEG Public Diplomacy 

platform. We want to use our human capital, which is composed of young 

people from Israel and from around the world, who speak many languages, 

are interested in a variety of fields, and the one common ground is that 

they all want to contribute to the Israeli State out of love for our country. 

Therefore, we have decided to join forces and choose 8 HESEG graduates 

that deal with public diplomacy, that are graduates of HESEG public 

diplomacy delegation, entrepreneurs at heart and researchers to be the 

think tank for this project. They will be in charge of the operation's room. 

How will this work? 

We will build viral content 

aimed at a diverse audience 

that will expose the truth 

behind the fronts against 

Israel, and exposing our small 

and special country's success. 

We will try to get exposure 

online and to make an impact 

while positioning Israel as a 

legitimate player.

HEROES TO HEROES FOUNDATION 

Heroes to Heroes Foundation provide a spiritual healing, suicide 

prevention and peer support program for veterans who suffer from 

Moral Injury and PTSD. The Foundation supports veterans of Vietnam, 

Afghanistan, Iraq and others. The veterans confront physical disabilities as 

well as mental disabilities for many years after their army service. 

The main program run by Heroes to Heroes sends a team of veterans to a 

life changing journey in Israel as part of their restoration. Most of these 

veterans aren't Jewish. 

The journey includes visiting holy sites, historical sites and relevant 

organizations in Israel. 

The highlight of the journey is the bond made with Israeli veterans whom 

accompany their journey. 

HESEG Alumni and scholars who served in combat units and went through 

similar experiences join and accompany the Heroes to Heroes journey and 

share their experiences. 

The entire trip is subsidized by the American Organization. The next 

delegation will come to Israel March 2017.

Hanukkah 

We celebrated Hanukkah with the HESEG Scholars and Alumni (as we do 

every year). 

Ohad Alon (HESEG Alumni, completed his degree in Architecture) lit the 

candles and said: “in 2010 I packed my bag and left my ultra-orthhodocs 

family after understanding I have nothing there. Not in my wildest 

dreams did I think I would find such a loving and caring family. HESEG is 

proof that family can be chosen!” 

Coincidentally, it was also his birthday.

HESEG Staff out of HESEG House 

Visiting Educational Institutions 

As part of HESEG Foundation's ongoing activity, HESEG's Staff went out to 

meet the scholars in their Academic Institutions around Israel. 

From our perspective, the highlight of the scholar visitations was at 

the Hebrew U and IDC. While visiting Hebrew University, Dr Menachem 

BenSasson, President of Hebrew U, honored us with his presence. Similarly, 

Prof. Uriel Reichman, president of IDC attended our gathering. In both 

meetings HESEG scholars were mentioned as a synonym to quality 

students, excellence and leadership.

Purim 

We are in the midst of preparing our Purim event that will be held in 

HESEG House. As we do every year, HESEG House is decorated according to 

a certain theme (this year - "The Little Mermaid"). Also, the scholars and 

Alumni are already working on their food stands with traditional foods from 

around the world hand made by them.

March of the Living Delegation 2017 

We are happy to announce that a respected delegation of 24 scholars is 

planned to take part in the March of the Living April 24th 2017 in Poland. 

This is the 8th year HESEG sends representatives to this. In preparation, the 

participants will have several meetings with the guide in Israel including a 

tour in "Yad Vashem".

Maccabi Tel Aviv BasketBall Club 

In the realm of HESEG's cooperation 

with Maccabi Tel Aviv, the scholars 

and Alumni can enjoy watching live 

games in the HESEG Box in Menora 

Mivtachim arena. 

Lately, a new tradition began in 

which throughout the game an 

HESEG scholar is mentioned. Yonina 

Beilin, HESEG Alumni, was mentioned 

in the previous game. 

Yonina made Aliyah on her own from 

the United States. She served in the 

IDF as an Armor Counselor and as an 

outstanding officer. While doing her 

reserve duty in "Operation Protective 

Edge" she received a medal. Yonina is an HESEG Alumni, and volunteers 

with Holocaust Survivors.
