10 STEPS FOR FINDING MORE
ENJOYMENT
IN LIFE
by
Matthew Dubose
Follow Us:
Today is as good a day as any to address your fears and problems, and these
steps are an excellent starting point for your journey.
Like it or not, life is
short and it’s getting
shorter all the time.
Unfortunately, many
people choose not to
enjoy it to its fullest, opting instead
to wait out adversity or succumb
to their own inner turmoils. Today
is as good a day as any to address
your fears and problems, and these
steps are an excellent starting point
for your journey.
1
ASK YOURSELF WHERE
YOUR PROBLEMS LIE
When obstacles appear
between you and your personal
development goals, take a moment
to ask yourself where the problem
really lies. Sometimes you can be
your own worst enemy. Your mind
can inflate potential problems
and magnify obstacles out of a
subconscious fear of failure. You
should concentrate on the strict
reality of your obstacles and not let
your self-doubts make mountains
out of molehills.
Beating cancer is never easy, but many people do beat it. The information in this article shares some
suggestions for staying on the journey.
2
ACKNOWLEDGE THE
PAST AND MOVE ON
A great self help tip is to simply
acknowledge the past and move forward.
A lot of people who are depressed or
feeling down tend to block out certain
things that have happened to them. You
can’t live your life in denial. You need to
accept certain things in order to move on.
Don’t worry about how fast you are
moving. Focus simply on the act of moving
forward. If you pressure yourself for
speedy progress, it is far more likely that
you will burn out and give up. Instead,
take deliberate steps and appreciate the
journey. The only thing you should fear is
being completely stagnant.
3
PRACTICE DEEP BREATHING
A great self help tip that can help
you change your life is to start breathing
right. A lot of people make the mistake of
breathing short, fast breaths. Breathing
like this will make you anxious. Try to
focus on taking in deeper breaths in order
to be more relaxed.
4
DISCOVER YOUR
PERSONAL STRENGTHS
Work on discovering your personal
strengths. Try making a list of the ones
you know and try making a list of your
weaknesses that hold you back from being
the strong person that you think you are
or could be. Even opinions from others,
like friends or family, can give you some
insight on how to better yourself.
5
SEEK HIGHER EDUCATION
A crucial component of personal
development is education. Want that job
you’ve always dreamed of? Chances are,
you’re going to need an education to do so.
Check out local colleges and Universities
and decide which one is best tailored to
8 Issue 2 • March 2017

the degree you are seeking at the price
you are able to afford. Already have a
degree? Consider checking out some
higher education or Master’s programs!
6
PRACTICE SELF CONFIDENCE
Build your self confidence through
practice! Whether you are a musician
learning a new song or a child learning how
to ride a bicycle, practice is a critical part
of your development. Practice assures us
that we can accomplish the desired task. It
improves our self confidence and gives us
the courage to step up on that stage.
7
DONATE TO THE NEEDY
If you still have a table and a fridge full of leftovers from your Thanksgiving or
Christmas dinner, pack them up and deliver them to the local women’s club or homeless
shelter, rather than throwing them out. You will feel better inside and can easily brighten
someone’s day with delicious foods and desserts. Try to make this a habit that is not
necessarily limited to major holidays, whether you deliver food once per week or once
per month.
8
ARGUE RESPECTFULLY
Learn to improve the outcome of almost any argument or conflict by using phrases
that communicate empathy and understanding with the other party’s point of view -
even if you do not agree with it. This practice can create a clear channel for negotiation
and makes it easier to establish an attitude of respect.
9
FIND A HOBBY
If you find that you feel as if your life is missing something or need some kind
of an outlet for stress, consider taking up a hobby. It will fill your time with something
productive instead of worrying about the things in your life that you cannot fix. These
hobbies can be just about anything that interests you.
COOK A NUTRITIOUS MEAL
Take the time to cook a good meal.
If you are loading you body with quick
bites to eat from the fast food restaurant
or convenience store, you are surely
not getting the nutrients that your body
needs to perform to its potential and this
can leave you feeling stressed and angry.
Reduce the amount of stress in your life
by eating right. Avoid the usual junk
food, which can actually lead to stress by
making you feel guilty. Eat a balanced,
healthy diet every day and it will actually
fight stress. You will look better, and
more importantly, you will feel better.
So whether you make a positive change
in your attitude, diet, mindset, or
relationships, remember these tips as you
make the changes necessary to reach your
personal goals. Enjoy life, for it is truly a
blessing that we are all meant to enjoy to
its very fullest, even if we hit a few bumps
along the way.
9 QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF ABOUT YOUR
SNORING
PROBLEM
by
Tess Kimble
Follow Us:
Follow the advice in this article, and you and your loved ones will be enjoying
rest as if snoring was never an issue. Sweet dreams to all.
Snoring is definitely a very
difficult thing to deal with,
whether it is you who is afflicted
or a loved one. Sometimes the
right knowledge is all it takes
to be able to deal with. Read the article
below to help you manage any snoring
issues you or your loved ones may be
having.
1
WHAT IS CAUSING YOUR SNORING?
You must ascertain the cause of
your snoring if you want to end it. For
instance, there are medical problems,
including sleep apnea, that can cause
snoring. The only way to diagnose these
is to see your doctor and begin treatment.
Some problems can even become worse if
left untreated.
14 Issue 2 • March 2017

2
ARE YOUR MEDICATIONS
CAUSING CHRONIC SNORING?
If you regularly take prescription muscle
relaxers or pain medications, you might
be faced with chronic snoring. If at all
possible, avoid taking these medications
in the hours before you get ready for
bed. These drugs cause your muscles to
become more relaxed, especially in your
airways. As a result, it becomes more
difficult to breathe, which leads to snoring.
Sleeping pills cause the throat muscles
to collapse, limiting your airway at night.
Although it’s tempting, avoid sleeping pills
if you suffer from insomnia. They cause
snoring. Also avoid alcohol, tranquilizers
or antihistamines right before bed. Find
natural ways to relax before bed like
meditation, relaxation techniques or warm
milk. You will sleep more quietly without
the aid of sleeping medications.
Surely after reading through all of this great information, you will be excited about paying the
chiropractor a visit. Have a look!

CAN A SLEEPING CHANGE FIX YOUR SNORING?
If you want to stop snoring, try sleeping on your side. When you sleep on your stomach
it can put pressure on your neck region. This can cause snoring. In addition, sleeping
on your back restricts air flow to your body, also causing snoring. This is why sleeping
on your left or right side is considered to be the best position if snoring is a problem.
While you are sleeping, it helps to have your head elevated. Use a thick, supportive
pillow. Alternatively, you can simply use extra pillows. This forces your head into
an upright position. As a result, your airways will open up and you will snore less.
Issue 2 • March 2017
15

Buy a new pillow to help with your snoring. Sometimes all you need to stop snoring is to
change pillows. Some pillows restrict your breathing passages. This makes you open your
mouth in compensation and, when you breathe through your mouth, you start snoring. Try
using a firmer pillow and one that elevates your head somewhat more than your old pillow.
Humidify the air in your bedroom if you have a snoring problem. When you breathe in
dry air all night as you sleep, your throat and nasal membranes dry out. This leads to
swelling and congestion that narrows your airways. That constriction makes it difficult
to get enough air and causes you to snore.
4
HAVE YOU TRIED NASAL STRIPS?
To help you or your loved one stop
snoring during sleep, try using nasal
strips. Nasal strips can help you open
your nasal passages, which will help you
breathe easier in your sleep. As a result,
many people stop snoring when they use
these strips!
5
DO YOU EXERCISE REGULARLY?
To cut back on your snoring, it’s
important to have a regular exercise
regimen. When you’re working your abs
or your legs, your throat muscles are also
working too. This makes your air passages
firmer -- making them more likely to stay
open and prevent snoring on your part.
6
DO YOU EXERCISE YOUR TONGUE?
To lessen your snoring, exercise your
tongue by sliding it against the backside
of your front teeth. Slide your tongue
backwards, then bring your tongue against
your top teeth; repeat these motions for 3
minutes. Believe it or not, this will actually
strengthen your muscles and open the
airways that are crucial for reducing
snoring.
7
HAVE YOU TALKED
TO YOUR DOCTOR?
Talk to your doctor about prescribing
something to help you quit snoring. While
medication performance varies among
different users, some snorers have found
16 Issue 2 • March 2017

their snoring is greatly reduced when they use medications that are hailed as anti-snoring
remedies. These remedies come in various forms ranging from pills to nasal sprays.
It may be worthwhile to try a few of the medications or tools available to assist with
snoring issues. On the market, you’ll find nasal strips, pills and sprays that have worked
for many snorers. No matter what you decide to try, you should always speak with a
doctor first to find out what they recommend would be the best option for your particular
problem.
8
HAVE YOU VISITED YOUR DENTIST?
Talk to your dentist about being prescribed an aveoTSD to eliminate snoring.
These devices work for people that can’t tolerate other types of mouthpieces for one
reason or another. AveoTSD’s are soft molded rubber-like material that look a lot like a
very large baby pacifier. You insert your tongue through the hole into the bulb portion
and it is held there by suction.
9
WHAT ARE YOU EATING AND DRINKING BEFORE BED?
Be aware of what you are eating and drinking, right before you go to
bed. Many foods tend to cause the mucous in your body to build up, especially
after eating certain foods like dairy products. Fatty foods, especially those
with a lot of sugar, should also be avoided. And most of all, avoid alcohol
before bed if you can, as this will only make your snoring that much worse.
Now that you’ve come to the end of this article, you are better equipped to deal with any
snoring issues you may have. Follow the advice in the article, and you and your loved
ones will be enjoying rest as if snoring was never an issue. Sweet dreams to all.
A 15-PART CHECKLIST FOR
WITHSTANDING
YOUR ANXIETY
by
Matthew Dubose
Follow Us:
Being well informed will always make a big impact on your ability to deal with
a problem. Anxiety is no different. Keep reading for more information.
Anxiety is one of
those things that
we all have to
deal with. The
difference for
some people is that it has a
bigger physical and emotional
impact than it does for
others. Managing the anxiety
levels you face on a daily
basis can severely change the
amount of time you spend
dealing with your anxiety
symptoms. Keep reading for
more information.
1
PRACTICE PROPER
BREATHING
Proper breathing is essential
to reducing sudden feelings
of anxiety. Using a count
to control your breathing
can be an effective way to
reduce anxious feelings. Pick
a count, such as 3 in, and 3
out. Repeat this pattern, until
the feelings of anxiety have
resolved, and passed.
Issue 2 • March 2017
21

2
SELECT A CALMING MANTRA
Choose a calming mantra that you
can repeat to yourself when you feel
anxious. Short, simple phrases work best,
although some people prefer to chant a
soothing sound. Select a mantra that is
personally meaningful and that you can
recall quickly. Repeat the mantra as often
as needed, either in your head or out loud,
if you are alone.
3
YOU NEED SOCIAL
INTERACTION
Social interaction is a must for people, in
order to survive. You will die slowly without
any social interaction. It is also a big help
when it comes to dealing with anxiety.
Try talking to someone, and maybe, that
person can help talk you through your
anxiety by helping you sort things out.
Read on to see what you can do to help minimize the damage of every day foods and drinks, and retain
healthy teeth and gums for a lifetime.

4
GET SUFFICIENT DAILY REST
If you are having high levels of anxiety, you need to make sure that you are getting
enough sleep every day. When your body is deprived of sleep, it will make your adrenal
glands work harder. If you have to, take short naps during the day to help your body not
use as much adrenaline to keep going.
5
ALLOW YOURSELF A TIME TO WORRY
Try creating your own anxious worrying period. Choose a single or two 10 minute
spots each day where you can worry and just feel anxious. During this worry period, try
focusing only on the anxious, negative thoughts without trying to correct them. The rest
of the day should remain anxiety-free.
22 Issue 2 • March 2017

6
DON’T HESITATE TO
SEEK MEDICAL ADVICE
Do not fear seeking medical advice for
facing your anxiety. Just the thought of
seeking a professional opinion, can be
another source of anxiety. Don’t let this
happen to you. Anxiety is often a medical
condition that can be solved with the right
information and treatment. Relax and
make the appointment.
7
DEVELOP BETTER EATING HABITS
Try to develop healthier eating
habits. Begin your day the right way by
eating some breakfast, then keep going
with small, frequent meals throughout
your day. Going without eating for too
long during the day can cause your blood
sugar to lower, which can make you feel
much more anxious.
8
DISTRACT YOUR MIND
It might seem funny, but by doing
silly things such as dancing when you are
experiencing a panic attack could distract
your thoughts. When you have a panic
attack, distract your mind. Do anything
that it takes. and whatever you can do,
where you are at the moment.
9
MAKE USE OF POSITIVE VISUALIZATIONS
Visualize positive outcomes in whatever situation you are dealing with. You can
then take the time to feel better about what is happening to you. Also, you can take the
time to find out how you make those visualizations a reality by setting goals for how
they can happen.
TREAT YOURSELF TO A PROFESSIONAL MASSAGE
If you are constantly feeling anxious, take a day for a professional massage. This
will help to loosen up all of the knots in your body, and help eliminate the extra tension
that you feel. Staying healthy physically is one of the best ways that you can improve
your mental state.
Issue 2 • March 2017
23

LET GO OF THE PAST
Letting go of the past, may be what
it takes, for you to get rid of anxiety. Many
times, anxiety is caused by people dwelling
on bad experiences from the past. You
must have the mindset that the past is the
past; and focus on the present and times
to come.
IDENTIFY YOUR TYPE OF ANXIETY
There is more than one type of
anxiety that exists. If you are unsure of
what kind of anxiety you are experiencing,
you should discuss things with your doctor
before trying to find medication or other
sources of help. This professional will be
able to help you identify your triggers.
MAKE USE OF CALMING HERBS
There are many herbs that you can research, if you want to control your
anxiety. Some of them include passionflower, chamomile, kava kava, and St. John’s
Wort. However, prior to taking anything for your anxiety, including herbal remedies, it is
important that you consult with a medical professional.
24 Issue 2 • March 2017

PAY YOUR BILLS ON TIME
A great way to improve your anxiety level is to pay all of your credit card bills
on time. A late payment or other financial problem can cause stress and worsen your
anxiety. Stay up-to-date on your bills, so you can get rid of one stress factor.
GET A PET
If you suffer from anxiety and can’t get out that much, consider getting yourself
a pet. They are shown to have numerous benefits, like lowering blood pressure
and stress. The companionship an animal can offer is that they are unequivocally
loyal, pleasant and will not get you all stressed out like other people can make you.
Being well informed on any subject that you deal with will always make a big impact
on your ability to deal with it. Anxiety is no different. Just understanding more about it
and what you can do to manage your anxiety symptoms can provide a lot of relief as a
placebo effect.
12 WAYS TO MAINTAIN
OPTIMAL NUTRITION
by
Matthew Dubose
Follow Us:
By being aware of what you are putting into your body and employing these
options, you will be well on your way to a happier and healthier life.
The key to a healthy body is
nutrition. What you eat not
only affects how much you
weigh, but can impact your
health in many ways. This
article will provide you with some simple
tips and tricks to make sure you are getting
the nutrition you need for a healthy body.
1
INDULGE IN THE THINGS YOU LOVE
Go ahead and eat some chips or
candy. A diet built around depriving
yourself of the things you love, will never
last. If you love chocolate or chips or a
steak, go ahead and indulge yourself. The
key to a splurge is moderation. If you let
yourself have a small treat every once in a
while, you will be much more likely to stay
on track, the rest of the time.
2
INCREASE YOUR FIBER INTAKE
Include more fiber in your diet. Fiber
causes your body to expel wastes so that
nothing harmful has a chance to sit for
long inside of you. By eating more fiber,
you are helping keep your colon in top
condition by pushing out harmful waste at
a quicker rate.
3
GET ENOUGH VITAMIN B6
Vitamin B6 is an important part
of a healthy diet. Vitamin B6 works to
metabolize protein and carbohydrates.
It is also important in helping your body
maintain a healthy blood sugar level. B6 is
a player in the functioning of your immune
and nervous systems. It also helps to keep
anemia away.
4
CONSUME OMEGA 3
When possible, include more foods
in your diet that are high in omega 3.
Omega 3 is one of the good fats that has
many benefits. It can help reduce pain and
swelling in an injury. It is a great source of
protection against cardiovascular disease
and strokes. It also has some benefits in
treating attention deficit disorders.
THE POWER OF THE
MEDITERRANEAN DIET
Eat a Mediterranean-style diet to help
prevent heart disease. This includes lots
of healthy fats like olive oil, vegetables,
whole grains, beans and seafood. Eating
these foods keep your weight and blood
pressure down, while supplying your body
with fiber and other nutrients it needs to
be healthy.
PREPARING VEGETABLES
THE RIGHT WAY
When considering your nutrition
vegetables are a great choice, but be
sure that you are not losing nutrients
by how they are being prepared. Often
times, boiling will actually cause your
vegetables to lose a large percentages of
their nutrients to the bottom of the pot.
You will retain the most vitamins by either
microwaving or steaming your vegetables.
7
WATCH YOUR SALT INTAKE
Don’t eat too many salty foods
such as preserved meats, BBQ sauce,
crisps, dips and processed cheese. Salt is
popular with food manufacturers because
it can enhance flavors and preserve food,
however, diets high in salt can cause high
blood pressure, dehydration and bloating.
Remember, the RDI for sodium is 2300mg,
about 6 teaspoons of salt.
8
TRY EATING PRAWNS
A great nutritional tip is to start eating prawns. Prawns are loaded with quality
nutrition, including protein, essential fats, and alanine. Alanine is an amino acid, and it’s
important because it produces carnosine, which is an antioxidant that helps the body
respond better to the acid produced by exercise.
9
START EATING PROBIOTICS
To help your body fight off common illnesses, such as the common cold and
diarrhea, eat plenty of probiotics. Probiotics are a healthy, living bacteria that has been
proven to fight off harmful illness causing bacteria. Examples of probiotics include yogurt,
tempeh, and sauerkraut. Fermented teas like kombucha are also rich in probiotics.
SWITCH TO DECAF COFFEE
If you are a big coffee drinker, try switching to decaf coffee. Decaf coffee is
low in calories and can help you with your coffee cravings. If you need to add items to
your coffee, such as sugar or milk, be sure to use the healthiest options available: for
example, skim milk or sugar substitute.
ADD VEGETABLES TO YOUR PIZZA
Get more vegetables on your pizza! You don’t have to limit yourself to the
mainstays of tomatoes, mushrooms, green peppers and olives. Add an assortment of
vegetables to make pizza a healthier food choice. Add anything from broccoli to zucchini
to spinach! It will taste great!
SAMPLE LOCAL FOOD
WHEN TRAVELING
When you are out traveling the globe, take
some time to sample the local food. If you
are frightened by the prospect of eating
something that you could find disgusting
to your palate, stick to mainstream
fare. You should be able to easily avoid
the mystery meals, when you do this.
There is an old saying, “You are what you
eat”. And it could not be more truthful. By
being aware of what you are putting into
your body and employing the simple tips
discussed here, you will be well on your
way to a happier and healthier life.
11 TIPS FOR TAKING
PROPER CARE
OF YOUR HAIR
by
Tess Kimble
Follow Us:
Memorize these tips or take this article with you to the hair salon next time
you go, so that you can buy the hair-care products that are right for you!
Going to the
hair salon or
even to the
supermarket
to get hair-care
products can be confusing.
There are so many products
out there; you might not
be sure which one is the
best to get for your hair.
Read on to learn all about
hair care and hair-care
products so you can make
an informed choice.
1
AVOID HEAVY
CONDITIONERS
Stay clear of thick, heavy
conditioners if you have
thin or fine hair. This
only weighs your hair
down giving it a thinner
appearance. Moussetype
conditioners or
lightly sprayed leave-in
conditioners work best to
add some volume without
appearing heavy or greasy
on the hair shaft.
2
WATER IS CRUCIAL
Drink more water! Your hair needs
water to thrive especially during the winter
months. Increasing your water intake will
help no matter what your hair type is. Start
carrying a bottle with you and make sure
that you are going through at least a few
bottles every day. Your hair will thank you.
3
WASH YOUR HAIR THE RIGHT WAY
Make sure your hair is thoroughly
wet before you apply shampoo and begin
washing it. If you start to scrub your hair
and scalp without getting it wet enough
first, you are much more likely to have
strands of your hair break off in your
hands. When the hair is wet, it is more
pliable and will resist breakage better.
Use a towel to dry your hair, as much
as possible, before blow drying. When
blow drying your hair, use the coolest
possible setting to avoid damage. Do not
leave the blow dryer in the same spot
for more than a few seconds and keep
it several inches away from your head.
When towel drying, never briskly rub your
hair. Rubbing and tugging causes your
hair to split and become frizzy. Patting
or blotting your hair will allow you to dry
your hair without damage. If you need to
comb your hair while it’s still wet, use a
comb with wide spaced teeth. Do not use a
brush on your hair while it’s wet.
4
CHANGE YOUR BRUSH
Use a soft brush made out of animal
hairs instead of plastic. Do not brush your
hair when it is wet and always be gentle.
You should start at the end of your hair and
work your way up as you gently untangle all
Issue 2 • March 2017
37

the knots. Make sure you take your time!
When selecting a brush, you should choose
one that is made from natural animal hairs,
as opposed to one made from synthetic
materials. The bristles on the natural
brushes will be more soft and flexible, so
it will be less likely to cause any damage to
your hair, if you use it regularly.
5
TAKE CARE OF YOUR SCALP
It’s important to make sure your hair
and scalp get enough natural oil. For even
distribution of your hair’s natural oil, try
bending over and brushing your scalp and
hair back to front. Keep doing this until
your scalp begins to tingle. Follow up with
a gentle massage using your fingertips.
6
ELIMINATE STRESS
Stress is one of the worst things for your body, hair and scalp as you should try
to reduce this at all costs. Stress can cause dandruff and facilitate the graying process,
which damages the way that you look. Eliminate stress and triggers of stress to feel and
look great during the day.
7
LOOK AT OUTSIDE INFLUENCES
Have a look at outside influences if you find that your hair is looking dull or flat.
Factors such as nicotine, unhealthy diet, lack of physical exercise and too much stress
or anxiety can all impact on the way that your hair looks. Make changes in these areas
where necessary.
38 Issue 2 • March 2017

8
EXPERIMENT WITH
HAIR PRODUCTS
Be open to trying different brands of hair
products. One brand might have something
new and different to offer your hair. For
example, one brand of shampoo might get
rid of residue from another brand; try to
keep the scalp clean and healthy.
9
PROTECT YOUR HAIR
WHEN OUTDOORS
Take care of your hair when you are out
under the hot summer sun. Sunshine can
dry out your hair, and chlorine and salt
from the ocean are even more harsh.
Wear a hat when outdoors, and rinse
your hair with clear water after going in a
chlorinated pool or the ocean.
GO OVER WHAT YOU’RE EATING
To have the most luxurious hair, it
all starts with eating healthy! You must eat
nutritious foods, especially foods high in
vitamins A and E. They help give you shiny
hair! Also be sure to eat lots of protein,
as protein promotes healthy hair growth.
Two great sources of protein are nuts and
eggs.
DON’T SLEEP WITH YOUR HAIR PULLED BACK
When you are going to sleep at night, take out any clips or bands that you have in your
hair. When your hair is pulled back in your sleep and you move around, you could cause your
hair to break off. Also, use a satin pillowcase, if possible, so that your hair glides when sleeping.
Now that you’ve read this article, it should be easier to figure out which hair-care
products you mostly need. Memorize these tips or take the article with you to the hair
salon next time you go so that you can purchase the hair-care products that are right for
you.
12 OPTIONS FOR DIMINISHING THE
SEVERITY OF
TINNITUS
by
Tess Kimble
Follow Us:
It might take a while to find the most effective methods for you to cope with
tinnitus, but once you do, you will appreciate the time you spent trying.
Tinnitus is one of many
disorders that so many people
around the world suffer from.
The constant noises in the
ear can be life-altering and
seriously debilitate people. The following
article is full of ways to cope, and to lessen
the effects that tinnitus can have on your
life.
1
AN ENT SPECIALIST
Bring up your tinnitus to your doctor
at your next yearly physical exam and ask
to be referred to an ear, nose, and throat
specialist. An ENT can look into the cause
of your tinnitus, which is vital, if you are
going to find a way to treat it.
2
VICKS VAPORUB
Rub a small amount of Vicks VapoRub
on your chest before bed. If your tinnitus
is related to TMJ, sinus issues, or problems
with the eustachian tube, then the ointment
will help relieve your symptoms. The Vicks
also has a calming effect for many people
which is an added bonus.
3
A TINNITUS SUPPORT GROUP
Find a tinnitus support group, and
attend a meeting. This environment is the
right place to get the education you need,
as well as the companionship and support
from people who experience the same
symptoms as you do. Support groups will
assist you in learning how to cope with the
daily challenges of tinnitus.
4
STAY CALM AND RELAX
Keep calm. Tinnitus is not always
related to a major health problem, so
calm down so that you do not add stress
to your troubles. Worrying will only make
you focus more on the tinnitus, which will
seem to make it worse. Stay calm and relax
so that it is easier to think of other things.
Relaxation techniques can help you get
rid of tinnitus. You should learn more
about breathing techniques and other
exercises designed to help you focus
or relax. Perhaps practicing a sport
could help, or simply doing an activity
that you enjoy. Try different things
until you find one that works for you.
It is important to remain calm when facing
tinnitus. Remember that rarely does
44 Issue 2 • March 2017

tinnitus signify a serious medical problem
and may simply be the ordinary sounds
of the processes of your body. Consult a
physician in the field of audiology or an
ear, nose, and throat doctor to discuss
your condition.
5
MINIMIZE FURTHER DAMAGE
If you are already suffering from
tinnitus, it is mandatory that you take steps
now to protect yourself from any further
hearing damage. Stay away from loud
noises, and wear hearing protection when
you cannot avoid noisy environments.
Always keep a supply of earplugs with you
so that you can take action right away if
you find yourself in a situation that could
be potentially harmful to your hearing.
6
AVOID FATTY AND HIGH
SODIUM FOODS
Multiple studies have shown that elevated
levels of blood fats may cause serious
and permanent inner-ear malfunction
that is accompanied by ringing in the
ears. Follow a diet plan that is low in fat;
avoid fatty meats, cheeses, fried snacks,
and over-processed baked goods. It is
not enough to simply avoid trans fats; to
protect the health of your ears, you should
limit consumption of all kinds of fats.
A good way to help your tinnitus symptoms
is to eat a healthy, low sodium diet. If your
diet is consistently unhealthy, your body
will begin to lack the ability to cure itself.
If this goes on too long, it can quickly lead
to the development of maladies such as
tinnitus.
7
KEEP ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION
IN CHECK
Celebrating or relaxing with alcohol, is a
normal occurrence in society. Yet keep in
mind that your blood becomes dilated when
you drink alcohol, therefore making blood
Issue 2 • March 2017
45

flow a lot more forceful when going through them. This, in turn, can cause the noise you are
hearing in your ears. To reduce your symptoms, reduce the amount of alcohol you drink.
If you play a musical instrument, it can help drown out the tinnitus for awhile and
distract you from it. Recorders, flutes and brass instruments work best, because their
sound resonates in your head and can effectively drown out the sounds associated with
the tinnitus
8
TAKE CARE OF YOUR MOUTH
The state of your mouth could
actually affect the severity of your
tinnitus. Make sure you get all dental
issues taken care of and ensure you don’t
have temporomandibular joint disorder as
either of those can make your symptoms
far worse or even create the problem
altogether when you don’t have tinnitus at
all!
9
LET YOUR DOCTOR KNOW
ABOUT ANY SUPPLEMENTS
It is vitally important to let your family
doctor know if you’re taking any
supplements, especially if you’re on
any prescription drugs. The interaction
between supplement and prescription can
actually bring on the symptoms of tinnitus,
so give your doctor a list of any vitamins,
herbs, or homeopathics you’re taking.
Many people swear that taking magnesium
and zinc supplements have helped them
with their tinnitus. There hasn’t been any
studies on their effectiveness, but there
also is no harm in including food items
which are rich in these elements in your
diet. Oysters, wheat germ, sesame seeds,
pumpkin seeds, dark chocolate, beans,
and tofu are all excellent choices.
46 Issue 2 • March 2017

CONSIDER ANTIDEPRESSANTS
Although it may not seem like it
should help with tinnitus, antidepressants
can actually help to reduce the suffering
associated with the disease’s symptoms.
Ask your doctor if he thinks that drugs like
benzodiazepines might help you with the
problems you’re facing, or if there are any
counter-indications you might have.
REMAIN HOPEFUL!
Live your life with an abundance
of hope. For someone battling with
tinnitus, a chronic condition that leaves
your head in a constant state of "noise,"ù
your outlook can be very distressing.
Hope gives you something to believe
in long term, which allows you to feel
better both mentally and physically.
You may find that the more you know
about tinnitus, the easier it will be to treat
it and cope with it. Start your research on
the Internet, but also look for articles and
other publications for information. If you
are knowledgeable about the condition and
its causes, you will be more likely to find
a treatment option to meet your needs.
You are now informed of some proven
methods to help you cope or lessen the
effects that tinnitus can have on your life.
It is going to take some time to find the
most effective methods for you to use, but
once you do, you will appreciate the time
you spent trying.
AVOID PLAQUE
Brush, brush, brush
to avoid plaque. Plaque is a
layer of bacteria that coats
your teeth. It is transparent.
Plaque buildup causes
cavities. You can remove
plaque by brushing your
teeth often. Ideally, you can
brush your teeth after each
meal. At the very least, brush
morning and night.
BAKING SODA AND WATER
If you run out of toothpaste, baking soda and water can be an effective substitute.
Simply mix in some water with a small amount of baking soda and use it just as you
would toothpaste. An added benefit to using baking soda is that, along with neutralizing
mouth odors, its abrasive nature can help with stain removal.
3
REGULAR CHECKUPS WITH THE DENTIST
Schedule regular checkups and cleanings with your dentist. Going often will make
sure that your teeth stay in good condition. This also gives your dentist the opportunity to
catch big problems early and give you advice on how to treat any problems that you may
have. Minor problems can eventually become severe problems without proper treatment.
Never assume that skipping your dental appointment is okay. Everyone should start
getting dental care as soon as they are six months old. Dental check-ups should be done
every six months after. This holds true for children, teenagers, adults and the elderly.
Everyone needs to see a dentist twice a year past their first birthday.
Being well informed will always make a big impact on your ability to deal with a problem. Anxiety is no
different. Keep reading for more information.
BRUSHING, FLOSSING,
AND MOUTHWASH
One way to ensure that you do not end up
with cavities is to take good care of your
teeth by performing regular dental care.
Brushing, flossing and using mouthwash
can all help to rid your mouth of harmful
bacteria. It is also an effective way to stage
off cavities.
5
ADDRESS SENSITIVE TEETH
Do you find your teeth hurt when you
drink your hot coffee or cold beverage?
Find a sensitive teeth toothpaste and
make an appointment to see your
dentist. You might have a cavity or a
nerve inflammation. Remember, treating
problems as soon as they occur is always
the best decision.
6
TOOTHPASTE WITH FLUORIDE
Whether you buy toothpaste at a
drug store or a natural food store, make
sure it contains fluoride. This will build
tooth strength. When your teeth are
strong, they are healthy.
7
HEALTH INSURANCE WITH
DENTAL PROTECTION
Find a good health insurance with dental
protection. The best plans will cover
all your visits to the dentist, including
two check-ups a year to get your teeth
cleaned and inspected. If you can afford
to, get a comprehensive policy for your
entire family. Talk to your employer about
benefits too.
8
TAKE CARE OF YOUR GUMS
Keep an eye on your gums, and
take note of any decay. This is where the
nerves start and they are more susceptible
to decay. If not taken care of quickly, any
issues that arise in this area may require
a root canal. Watch the area closely, and
let your dentist know as soon as possible
if you notice any pain or changes in your
gums, such as discoloration and bleeding.
9
BRUSH TWICE A DAY AT LEAST
Although this is likely common knowledge to you, you should always brush your
teeth a minimum of two times each day. However, it is important that you are brushing
with a toothpaste that contains fluoride. Make sure you brush in a circular motion on
each tooth, and avoid brushing too hard because this can damage your gums.
IF YOU’RE DIABETIC, TAKE EXTRA CARE OF YOUR TEETH
Dental hygiene is a must for diabetics. Many infections, including gum disease, are
part and parcel of diabetic life. Painful chewing issues come along with periodontal disease.
Periodontal disease causes people to lose teeth. It can also alter your glucose levels.
Caring for your teeth isn’t difficult, but you do need to know what you are doing in order
to do a good job. Wouldn’t you like your dentist’s approval next time? When you have a
healthy mouth, it is only natural that you will want to smile at the world.
9 STRATEGIES FOR
WINNING THE BATTLE
WITH CANCER
by
Matthew Dubose
Follow Us:
Beating cancer is never easy, but many people do beat it. The information in
this article shares some suggestions for staying on the journey.
Cancer can be one of the
most frightening of medical
diagnoses. Treatments are
tough and their effectiveness
is far from guaranteed. Worst
of all, the fight against cancer is always a
long, drawn-out battle. Cancer treatment
is a long journey. This article shares some
suggestions for staying on the journey and
ameliorating the potential stresses waiting
along the way.
1
DETECTION AND
EARLY TREATMENT
It’s important to take detection and the
possibility of early treatment, seriously,
when thinking about cancer. Learn how to
self-examine yourself for cancers of the
skin, colon, prostate, cervix and breast.
Be sure to perform checks regularly so
that you can start fighting early and give
yourself the best chance possible.
2
BEWARE OF THE HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS
The human papillomavirus, or HPV, is a cause of cervical cancer. This virus causes
genital warts, which are transmitted by sexual contact. The only way to prevent the
spread of HPV is the use of condoms and abstinence, or a vaccine that protects against
the disease. Be responsible and don’t practice unprotected sex. The possibility of cancer
isn’t worth the risk.
3
CEASE SMOKING IMMEDIATELY
Immediately stop smoking if your doctor tells you that you have cancer. A lot of
smokers with cancer think they shouldn’t quit smoking. Their thinking is that they are
sick already. However, the carcinogens, toxins and poisons within cigarettes drastically
reduce your body’s odds of completely healing or even withstanding your cancer
treatment.
Today is as good a day as any to address your fears and problems, and these steps are an excellent
starting point for your journey.

4
STAND TALL EMOTIONALLY
To stand a chance of surviving
cancer you have to be willing to put
up a fight against it. If you give up
emotionally, the cancer will have a
greater chance of taking over your body
and ultimately ceasing your existence
here. You have to fight to beat cancer.
you may have. Not everyone deals with
illness and stress the same way. Sit down
ADJUST YOUR DIET
TO REDUCE RISK
Lung cancer is one of the most deadly
cancers. It is very difficult to treat, but
scientists have discovered that diet may
play a major role in reducing the incidence
of this type of cancer. A diet low in fat
and high in fruits, tomatoes and green
vegetables all can reduce the risk. In
fact, studies show that apples can reduce
the risk of lung cancer by as much as 50
percent!
6
PROTECT YOUR SKIN FROM THE SUN
The sun can be a major cancer causing factor for many people. The sun releases
ultraviolet rays that enter the earth’s atmosphere. When we step outside, our skin is
exposed to these rays, and too much exposure can cause skin damage that can lead to
skin cancer. Be sure to protect yourself with sun screen to prevent this.
IF YOU’RE A SURVIVOR, CONTACT OTHER SURVIVORS
A great way for cancer survivors to deal and to know what lies ahead is to network
with other survivors. There are plenty of cancer survivors in the world, thankfully, and
they meet up at support groups and even on Internet forums, so you can always keep in
contact with other survivors.
KEEP AN OPEN LINE OF COMMUNICATION
After finding out that you have cancer, it is best to keep an open contact with your
doctor and those close to you, such as your family members and close friends. If you avoid
talking to them about your situation and your feelings, you might begin to feel isolated.
Communicate with loved ones. If you need more support from your friends and family,
talk to them about it in a non-confrontational way. Have a talk with them and let them
know just how you are feeling and what they can do to help. But, you must proceed
slowly and carefully. This is a tough period of time. Instead use love and compassion.
You might regret not asking for help.
9
TAKE ADVANTAGE OF
THE POWER OF BERRIES
Berries can be a very strong ally if
you are trying to prevent contracting
cancer. A wide assortment of berries like
raspberries, blueberries and strawberries
are full of anthocyanidins, phytochemicals,
and other phenolic compounds that
have cancer-fighting properties and
antioxidant powers. Something as simple
as a berry can help prevent cancer.
Beating cancer is never easy, but many
people do beat it. Self-education can be a
potent addition to the arsenal of weapons
available against cancer. The information
in this article is just a tiny fraction of all
the helpful advice available. Learning more
cannot hurt and in a life-or-death struggle,
a little good advice may just be enough to
tip the scales against cancer.
8 PRINCIPLES FOR
CALMING YOUR ACID
REFLUX SYMPTOMS
by
reflux relief. Start to use the ideas here.
When life
provides
you with
lemons,
y o u
must turn them
into lemonade,
right? Not if you
have acid reflux!
Simple principles
like avoiding citrus
drinks can help you
calm your symptoms
and turn your life
around, and this
article is full of
helpful hints which
will guide you down
the path to relief.
1
CHANGE YOUR DRINKING HABITS DURING MEALS
The more fluid you drink during your meal, the more volume is placed in your
stomach. This causes more distension in the stomach and adds pressure to the lower
sphincter of the esophagus, creating the perfect condition for acid reflux. Try drinking
between meals and drink water in small sips rather than big gulps.
64 Issue 2 • March 2017

2
REDUCE YOUR WEIGHT
If you stay at a weight that is
healthy you will be unlikely to suffer
from GERD. The sphincter at the bottom
of the esophagus becomes relaxed when
the weight of extra fat presses down on
your stomach. By reducing your weight
you can reverse this process, which
will greatly reduce your symptoms.
Lose weight by going to the gym and
performing cardiovascular exercises if you
want to limit your acid reflux symptoms. If
you are overweight, you will have a better
chance of acid reflux building in your
stomach and causing heartburn. Exercising
can help with your heartburn and improve
your health at the same time.
Follow these tips to easily make great tasting and healthy fruit and vegetable juices at home. You will notice
how much better you feel!
3
TAKE STEPS TO REDUCE STRESS
Stress can cause acid reflux. Stress produces more acid inside your
stomach. Engage in pleasant pursuits following meals. Read a good book,
take a leisurely walk, meditate or spend time with friends and family.
Try limiting stress triggers from relationships, school, work, or personal issues. Stress is
a major cause of producing too much stomach acid which can cause inflammation and
heartburn. Discover the cause of your anxiety and take it out of your life.
Issue 2 • March 2017
4
STOP SMOKING AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
If you smoke and have acid reflux, you may wish to quit. Nicotine can cause acid
reflux to worsen. Avoid quitting cold turkey since it could stress your body more and
worsen reflux. Slowly slack off.
5
WHEN, WHAT, AND HOW
MUCH YOU’RE EATING
Carefully consider the types of foods you
are eating if acid reflux is a problem. Fatty,
grease filled foods like chicken wings, pizza
and french fries can sit in your stomach
for a longer period of time, increasing the
likelihood of reflux. Instead, choose high
quality proteins, vegetables and whole
grains for the majority of your meals.
Have an early dinner. Eating too close
to bedtime is a prime cause of acid
reflux. If your stomach is still digesting
your dinner when you retire, the
combination of increased stomach
activity and a horizontal position is a
recipe for disaster. Try to eat dinner a
minimum of three hours before bed.
It is not only the types of food you eat,
but how much you eat that can cause
acid reflux. It takes a longer time to
digest larger meals, which can place
added pressure on your stomach. This
can be avoided by eating smaller meals,
which are spread throughout the day.
Eating slower has been shown to help with
the symptoms of acid reflux. This gives
your stomach a chance to adjust to the
food that you are taking in. Try chewing
your food a minimum of 25 times and
really savor the food you are eating. Eat
only until you are comfortably full and
never till you are stuffed.
6
AVOID RESTRICTIVE CLOTHING
Avoid wearing clothing that is restricting around your abdomen. Wear your belts
loosely and avoid pantyhose that are tight if at all possible. These articles could push on
your stomach. This pressure on the abdomen could easily lead to heartburn. You may
have to do some sit-ups each day to avoid buying new pants and skirts that fit properly.
7
PREGNANCY AND ACID REFLUX
When pregnant, the fetus can push
on the stomach and cause acid reflux. If
you think this is happening, get in touch
with your doctor so that he or she can
determine what you need to do to relieve
your acid reflux without putting your baby
in danger.
8
AMINO ACIDS AND GLUTAMINE
FOR ACID REFLUX
One way to help your body combat acid
reflux is by increasing your intake of
certain amino acids, one of which is called
glutamine. Glutamine can be found in
certain foods such as eggs, fish, spinach,
milk and a variety of different foods.
Increasing your intake of these types of
foods will help you combat your acid reflux.
So if life gives you those lemons, you need
to pass them on to someone who doesn’t
have acid reflux. You’ll be dealing with
your problems in no time when you start
to use the ideas you have read here. They
enable you to take over your life from the
threat of acid reflux symptoms.
13 POINTERS FOR
SURVIVING HEMORRHOID
DISCOMFORT
by
Matthew Dubose
Follow Us:
If you are unfortunate enough to develop hemorrhoids, remember the advice
here in this article to bring about a rapid improvement in your situation.
Hemorrhoids is a painful condition in which the veins and tissues in the anal
and rectal vicinities become inflamed and swollen. Fortunately this condition
is rarely very serious, yet it can be extremely painful and embarrassing.
Rather than allow yourself to be held back by the discomfort of hemorrhoids,
use the information in this article to fight back.
1
CONSUME MORE FRUITS AND VEGGIES
Another way that you can relieve the pain caused from your hemorrhoid is to go on a
diet with lots of fruits and vegetables. These sorts of diets are high in fiber, which helps to keep
your bowel movements soft. This will relieve the irritation caused by your daily defecation.
Issue 2 • March 2017
71

Eating foods that are rich in fiber and
drinking a lot of water will help to make
your stool softer and easier to pass.
Having softer stool can protect or soothe
hemorrhoids since there will be less
straining. Papaya, grapes and watermelon
are particularly effective in producing
softer stool and regular movements.
Veggies like okra and cabbage also
contain fiber which will help your bowel
movements. Keep up your water intake
every day also.
By being aware of what you are putting into your body and employing these options, you will be well
on your way to a happier and healthier life.

2
KEEP THE AREA DRY
After you take a shower, make sure that the area of your hemorrhoids is completely
dry. Putting clothes on a wet body can lead to excess irritation during the course of
the day, which can be very painful. Prevent this by using a soft towel that captures all
moisture on your body after washing.
3
RETHINK YOUR ROUTINES
If you find that you are suffering from regular occurrences of hemorrhoids you
may want to rethink your daily routines. You may be spending too much consecutive
time on your feet or in a seat. If you spend long periods of time sitting or standing you
are putting increased pressure on your anus and that can lead to hemorrhoids.
72 Issue 2 • March 2017

4
USE AN ICE PACK
Try using an ice pack to reduce
swelling and alleviate pain from a
hemorrhoid flareup. Some people also
find applying over-the-counter creams or
witch hazel to the affected area helpful
in reducing swelling. To prevent further
hemorrhoid irritation use a donut pillow
when sitting or avoid sitting altogether.
5
APPLY PETROLEUM JELLY
Apply petroleum jelly to help the
passage of hard stools. Using petroleum
jelly is a good way to prevent damage or
irritation to hemorrhoids when faced with
constipation or hard stools. Apply a small
amount around the anus to facilitate the
process. Walking before defecating will
also help ease the process.
6
DON’T READ WHILE ON THE TOILET
Many people like to read while
sitting on the toilet. This is a perfect way to
get hemorrhoids. You can be sitting much
longer than you need to be, and pushing a
little harder without even realizing it. If you
are sitting longer than 5 minutes without
anything happening, you have been sitting
too long.
7
IF YOU’RE PREGNANT,
LAY ON YOUR SIDE
Hemorrhoids can come around during
pregnancy because of all the extra weight
and stress that your body is carrying
around. It is best to lay on your left side if
you are going through this for 20 minutes
every five hours so that the blood vessels
of your hemorrhoids can get some relief
from the pressure of your uterus.
8
TRY A SITZ BATH
To alleviate hemorrhoid pain and
assist with the healing process, try taking
a sitz bath. You can do this in the tub,
however a sitz bath basin is more effective.
Issue 2 • March 2017
73

The basin fits in the toilet and comes with a bag that enables fresh water to run over the
area. Some people choose to add baking soda or special oils to the bath. The sizt bath
should last at least 15 minutes and is most effective when done three times a day.
9
SOAK IN THE TUB
If you are experiencing pain and inflammation from your hemorrhoids, try to soak
in a warm tub. Fill your tub with enough warm water to cover the area and lay back with
your knees raised. The warm water will increase the blood flow to the anus and reduce
the swelling. Do this a few times a day to help reduce the swelling.
AVOID INFLAMMATORY FOODS
Try to avoid eating foods that give you diarrhea if you have a hemorrhoid.
There’s a common misconception out there that having liquid stools is actually
good because it will not cause flare-ups. This is wrong simply because the
constant wiping associated with frequent bowel movements will cause irritation.
Stay away from spicy and hot foods because they can inflame your hemorrhoids. Just
making a few small changes in your diet can help you treat your current difficulties and
help you prevent further complications. It is also important to limit the amount of coffee
and beer that you drink.
74 Issue 2 • March 2017

DON’T EXPECT MUCH FROM LAXATIVES
Don’t expect laxatives or stool softeners to fix a hemorrhoid. Laxatives are not
a long-term solution to the constipation issue that brought about the hemorrhoid in the
first place. Also, while a laxative may make the passing of stool easier, it doesn’t actually
fix the hemorrhoid. It simply reduces the symptoms.
USE GARLIC TO
RELIEVE SYMPTOMS
Many people suffer from the painful,
embarrassing symptoms of hemorrhoids.
One home remedy that can help is garlic!
Garlic has been used for many medical
problems for years. Try ingesting 2
garlic cloves 2-3 times per day to relieve
hemorrhoids that are painful or bleeding.
You can also insert a clove of garlic inside
the anus to feel the healing effects.
DROP A FEW POUNDS
A great tip for your painful
hemorrhoids is to try to drop a few pounds.
This is crucial because being overweight has
a direct relation to getting hemorrhoids.
The added pressure in the stomach area
actually causes there to be increased
pressure of the veins around your anus.
Again, while your hemorrhoids can be
very itchy and painful, you are not likely to
suffer severe medical complications from
their formation. Of course, most people
would prefer to be spared of the discomfort
altogether. If you are unfortunate enough
to develop hemorrhoids, remember the
advice that you have just read to bring
about a rapid improvement in your
situation.
10 THINGS TO KNOW
BEFORE YOU START
WITH ACUPUNCTURE
by
Tess Kimble
Follow Us:
You will be surprised at the many benefits of acupuncture, a wonderful
treatment. Just be sure to have a look at these tips before you go out there.
How do you feel
about going in for
an acupuncture
appointment?
Surely you’ve
heard about acupuncture, but
maybe you don’t know much
about it. If you are looking
for more information, keep
reading to find out what you
need to know. You will be
surprised at the many benefits
of this wonderful treatment.
Acupuncture is based on
the Chinese theory that
stimulating specific nerve
centers can relieve pain and
some diseases. Very fine
needles are inserted at these
points and manipulated either
manually or by electricity.
The alternative practice of
acupressure is sometimes as
effective as acupuncture, but
its success often depends of
the type of ailment needing
treatment.
1
BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU EAT
BEFORE ACCUPUNCTURE
Before an acupuncture appointment, do
not eat a heavy meal. You will be lying
down on your stomach most of the time
during your session. This may cause
you stomach discomfort if your belly is
full. Instead, eat a light, easily digestible
meal, or just nibble on a few snacks.
When it comes to eating after having
acupuncture done, make sure you eat
healthy food. Eating a lot of unhealthy food
after your session is just putting back the
toxins that the acupuncture released. Try
sticking with healthy and fresh vegetables,
fruits, meats and other foods that are
nourishing and good for you.
Treating depression is not as scary as it may appear. Here are some tricks that can help to make it all a tad bit
easier.
2
CALM YOUR NERVES BEFORE AN APPOINTMENT
Understand what acupuncture is all about before you head to your appointment.
No one likes needles, but they are necessary in this type of treatment. The process
depends on their use. Try to calm your nerves before going into treatment. Talking to
someone who has been through the process already may help you.
3
DON’T FEEL OBLIGED TO TIP
Although you may feel that your acupuncturist has done an excellent job, you
shouldn’t feel obliged to tip him or her. Acupuncturists are more like doctors than they
are service providers such as a waiter. They are health care professionals, so tips are
not really fitting.
80 Issue 2 • March 2017

4
BE CONSISTENT WITH TREATMENT
Do not just go to one appointment and then stop. Generally, you will experience
the best results if you go to several treatments. If you are not dedicated to the process,
you are not going to benefit as much from it. Talk to your doctor about what you can
realistically expect after the first appointment and then going forward.
5
WEAR COMFORTABLE CLOTHING
For the best experience at your acupuncture treatment, wear comfortable clothing.
This will allow the acupuncturist to access any pressure points that are important for
your treatment. Also, it is a good idea to write down your symptoms and bring a list of
problem areas so that you can give specific details for him to target.
6
PAINLESS ACUPUNCTURE
Make sure the acupuncturist you
go to performs painless acupuncture.
Painless treatments are very popular in
the U.S. but pain can actually play a part
in relieving your stress or treating your
health problem. You should not try these
treatments until you know more about
acupuncture and are ready to try a more
advanced treatment.
7
INQUIRE ABOUT YOUR
ACUPUNCTURIST’S LICENSE
Inquire if your acupuncturist has a license
from your state’s health department.
There are states in which doctors may
offer acupuncture upon completion of
proper training and licensing. You really
need to find a practitioner with a degree
and vast experience.
8
COMMUNICATE WITH
YOUR ACCUPUNCTURIST
As you would with many other services,
schedule a consultation with any
prospective acupuncturists. These
generally last 10-15 minutes, but they
can give you an idea of whether or not
they are right for you. Ask them any
questions that you have, talk about their
Issue 2 • March 2017
81

experience and education, express any
concerns, and pay attention to how they
make you feel in their office. If you ever
feel uncomfortable, try someone else.
If you need to change position while you
are undergoing acupuncture treatments,
make sure you let the acupuncturist know.
Never try to move around without giving
him or her the heads up. If you do this, it
may increase the chances of them making
a mistake and causing you some injury.
9
USE VISUALIZATION
TO HELP YOURSELF
Use a little visualization to help your
acupuncture treatment along. Visualize
the pain or injury escaping as the needle
is put in place, and focus on a feeling of
numbness around the insertion site to help
yourself to avoid discomfort. Visualization
is a very powerful thing, and it can make
your treatments more effective and long
lasting.
AVOID TENSING UP DURING TREATMENT
Never fight an acupuncture treatment during the middle of it. You’ve
made the decision to get this treatment, hopefully reading up prior to the
appointment. If you start tensing up or responding poorly (both physically
and verbally), you can be sure that the session won’t give you the best results.
You have now been informed about acupuncture and how it can benefit you. Keep the
tips and advice that have been told to you here in mind as you implement acupuncture
sessions into your treatment plan. Find out just how much it can help, and spread the
news to the people you know!
8 THOUGHTS ON
JUICING AND WHY
YOU SHOULD TRY IT
by
Tess Kimble
Follow Us:
Follow these tips to easily make great tasting and healthy fruit and vegetable
juices at home. You will notice how much better you feel!
Making your own fruit and
vegetable juices at home is
an inexpensive way to stay
healthy and easily consume
important nutrients. Whether
you are making juice at home for healthy
vegetable juices or for tasty fruit juices,
these tips will help you make the best
tasting and healthiest juices possible.
1
TRY NEW PRODUCE
The biggest key in juicing is curiosity.
Wanting to try new foods, things you’ve
never even heard of before, will make your
journey more tasty and exciting! Explore
international produce markets to find
vegetables and fruit that could change
your life forever. Look online to research
what vitamins and nutrients they contain.
Get adventurous with your juicing
ingredients! Why not try grapefruit or
add in a little ginger for some zip! Other
items to try are celery, parsley, beets, bell
peppers, and leafy greens! You never know
what you might end up liking.
2
STORING YOUR PRODUCE
If you’re serious about juicing, you
should dedicate a cool, dark area of your
house to storing produce which can be
kept long-term. For example, apples can
be kept in the garage over the winter as
long as they’re not allowed to freeze. Just
wash them, get rid of any bad ones, and
store them in a covered but breathable
container.
3
WATCH YOUR SUGAR INTAKE
Juicing is a great way to drink all the
nutrients you need for the day, but you
also have to be conscious of the amount
of sugars you’re taking in. If you’re having
a drink with a lot of fruit or high-glycemic
vegetables, drink less than you would if it
were mostly low-glycemic items.
4
FINDING THE RIGHT JUICER
Shop around for a juicer that works
for you. You want to look for a juicer that
is easy for you to use, assemble, take
apart and clean. The juicer should also
be well constructed. You do not have
to buy the most expensive juicer on the
market for your needs, yet you do need
to understand how to use the juicer.
Once you have your juicing materials,
they should be of good quality if you
want good quality juice, it is of utmost
importance that you know how to
function your juicer to it’s fullest extent.
If you delve into making juice before
Issue 2 • March 2017
87

you really know what you are doing, you will just be wasting your juicing materials.
It’s best to avoid juicing fruits and vegetables that have a low water content. Avocados
and bananas, for example, are quite dense and don’t have much water in them. They
will clog up your juicer and you won’t get much juice out of them. If you really want to
include them, blend them first and then mix them with juices from other produce.
5
REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF SUPPLEMENTS YOU TAKE
Not only will you save money by juicing and not having to buy expensive juices at
the store, but you’ll also be able to reduce your vitamin and supplement intake. Being
healthy will also mean you’ll take less prescription drugs, saving you even more money
just by keeping in good shape!
6
JUICE THE PEELS
OF YOUR PRODUCE
If your fruits and vegetables are organic, go
ahead and juice the peels as well. The skins
of produce are loaded with antioxidants
and other nutrients, so peeling them will
remove a lot of the nutritional content.
The only exception is citrus fruits like
oranges or grapefruits, where the rinds
are not very digestible.
88 Issue 2 • March 2017

7
SUPPLEMENT YOUR FIBER INTAKE
Juicing will remove some of the fiber from the fruit and vegetables you’re
consuming, so it’s important to supplement your fiber intake through the other foods
you eat. Aim to ingest only whole grains and avoid white items like bread, pasta, and
rice, as they don’t contain enough fiber to be healthy.
8
MIXING FRUITS AND VEGGIES
Some people claim that mixing fruit and vegetables in your juice leads to
indigestion as the enzymes required to break down fruit are very different than those
to break down vegetables. We’ve never had a problem, but if you find you have an upset
tummy after drinking a mixed juice then you should probably stick to one or the other.
Follow the tips above to easily make great tasting and healthy fruit and vegetable
juices at home. Once you replace snacks and unhealthy beverages with pure fruit and
vegetable juices, you will notice how much better you feel. Make fruit and vegetable
juices at home for a high energy meal.
Is getting out of bed each day
easy or hard? Are you feeling
in good shape? If you’re not
feeling your best, vitamin
and mineral intake may work
wonders. Read on to discover
things you can do to improve
your health.
1
BOOST YOUR
VITAMIN C INTAKE
If you are feeling like you
need a bit of a boost you
need to increase your vitamin
intake. Vitamin C not only aids
in fighting off infection, it also
gives you additional energy by
supplementing what you may
be lacking. The main reason
we feel less than ideal is that
we are deficient in vitamins
and minerals.
2
BE CAREFUL WHAT VITAMINS
YOU TAKE
Do not assume that it is always safe to
take any vitamins you want. If you have
certain health conditions, it can be quite
dangerous to take certain ones. You should
also be careful if you take prescription
medications since taking certain vitamins
can cause a negative interaction with
them.
3
VITAMIN E FOR WOMEN
There are a lot of benefits for men to
take vitamin E, but women need it as well.
Vitamin E has anti-aging benefits and will
help battle cell damage that is related to
aging. Vitamin E also can prevent cataracts
and heart disease. Almonds, hazelnuts,
spinach and sunflower seeds are all rich in
Vitamin E.
It might take a while to find the most effective methods for you to cope with tinnitus, but once you do, you
will appreciate the time you spent trying.
4
AVOID CHEAP SUPPLEMENTS
It is not a good idea to just buy a bottle of the cheapest vitamin/mineral supplement
you can find on the shelf. Many of these supplements are made with chemical substitutes
of the natural nutrient you need. Before you invest your money in any supplement, do
your research so you can make a wise decision.
5
VITAMINS FOR CHILDREN
As adults, we all know how important vitamins and minerals are to our diets but
what about our children? Despite the energy they often have, they are burning away
what the body needs to promote health and fight off infection. Remember to give your
child vitamins in order for them to maintain good health during the growing years.
6
CHECKING EXPIRATION DATES
When buying vitamins, always check the expiration date on the package before
you buy them. Vitamins have a shelf life and do not last forever. Storage time, exposure
to light and temperature can all effect the quality of vitamins and further reduce the
expiration date. So make sure that you are buying quality vitamins that have not expired.
7
GINSENG FOR YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM
To give your immune system a boost, consider taking Ginseng. Ginseng can help
your body to regulate its hormones. This will help influence your insulin production,
blood pressure, and metabolism. As a result, you will also find yourself thinking more
clearly and having more energy to get through your day.
8
GETTING VITAMINS
THROUGH YOUR DIET
The best way to get vitamins and minerals
is through your diet. To ensure you are
getting what you need, add plenty of
superfoods to your diet. Superfoods
are high in a variety of vitamins and
minerals. These foods include broccoli,
blueberries, leafy green vegetables,
whole grains and many other foods.
Cheap food is nutrient poor, so consider
what you are eating. For example, eating
vegetables out of a can means you’re
missing out on fresh, nutrient-rich
vegetables instead. Your diet is your key
source of vitamins and minerals, and there
is no point in taking supplements if you’re
eating junk all day long.
9
TAKING A MULTI-VITAMIN
If you are having a struggle with
the daily grind in life such as working
multiple jobs and your household
routine, you need to take more vitamins.
When we are unable to allow our body
time to unwind, we need more vitamins
and minerals to keep it healthy and
able to recover from a hectic schedule.
If you are finding it difficult to get the
vegetable and fruit nutrition you need
every day, try adding a multi-vitamin to
your regular routine. There are many great
muti-vitamin choices for all ages, activity
levels and medical conditions. You can
get the nutrition you need even when you
don’t eat right.
When choosing a multivitamin, you need to select the right product. To begin, it must
have vitamins A, B1 through 3, B5 through 7, B9 and B12, and then C, D, E and K. Copper,
magnesium, selenium and zinc are also requirements. Chromium, manganese and
molybdenum are excellent additions.
TALKING TO YOUR DOCTOR
If you are already on medications, be sure to talk to your doctor before you take any
supplements. For example, if you are on heart prescriptions, taking calcium, magnesium
or potassium could alter the affects of those drugs or cause side effects, but your doctor
can tell you what you can take.
BOOSTING YOUR VITAMIN D INTAKE
When you feel sad or tired, you may need
to boost your vitamin D. Especially in the
winter months when we just don’t get
enough sunlight, a deficiency of vitamin D
can leave us lethargic. Talk to your doctor
about whether or not a supplement might
help you feel better.
OMEGA-3 IS IMPORTANT
If you are feeling depressed, Omega-3
supplements might be just what you need.
While people who have a diet high in fish
will have plenty of these fatty acids in their
body, those who don’t eat much fish may
be deficient. You can get more Omega-3s
in fortified eggs or through supplements.
Today might not be great, but tomorrow
can be amazing. You just have to figure out
how to utilize the vitamins and minerals to
make sure that occurs. The sooner you get
started, the better off you’ll be.
10 TRICKS FOR
TREATING YOUR
DEPRESSION
by
Matthew Dubose
Follow Us:
Treating depression is not
as scary as it may appear.
Here are some tricks that
can help to make it all a
tad bit easier.
Are you trying to treat your
depression for the first time?
You probably don’t even know
where to start. It’s no secret
that seeking treatment for
the first time can be very scary. Below are
some tricks that can help to make seeking
a new depression treatment a tad bit
easier.
1
CUT OUT JUNK FOOD AND SUGARS
To assist with managing depression,
examine your diet and what you are
eating on a regular basis. Junk food is
filled with preservatives and sugars which
does not provide natural energy to the
body. Fresh fruits and vegetables will
give the body the nutrients and vibrancy
needed to help focus on lifting your mood.
To be more happy, try to avoid sugary
foods. This includes ones deemed to be
good for you like honey or fruit juice.
These sugars are incorporated into
the bloodstream at a quicker rate than
carbohydrates from things like whole
grains. This will result in an initial energy
burst followed by a crash of fatigue and
depression.
2
TRY TAKING MEDICATION
If your depression is mild, you
could try over-the-counter medication.
For instance, fruit juice and St.
Johns Wart can help your mental
health. It is also cheaper than the
more common prescription therapy.
Do not be ashamed if your depression has
forced you to have to take medication.
Sometimes, depression symptoms are so
bad that the best things to help them are
medications. Talk to a psychiatrist to find
out if medication is the right choice for
your needs and which medication is best.
You will be surprised at the many benefits of acupuncture, a wonderful treatment. Just be sure to
have a look at these tips before you go out there.
3
RE-EXAMINE YOUR PRIORITIES AND EXPECTATIONS
It is important for people who suffer from Depression to re-examine their priorities
and adjust their expectations. Depressed people often falsely believe that they cannot
be happy in life without certain things, such as material possessions, higher wealth and
income, or a certain romantic partner. Changing negative thinking patterns and learning
acceptance is a great way to improve quality of life.
4
REDUCE THE WEIGHT OF YOUR SCHEDULE
Lighten your personal load. Everyone has responsibilities that are necessary to
life, however often people add much more than they need to. When your schedule is
packed to the brim, it can leave you exhausted and unable to enjoy even the activities
you actually enjoy. Take a hard look at your schedule and drop what is not absolutely
necessary. You will breathe a little easier and can focus on conquering your depression.
5
PRACTICE BREATHING AND STRETCHING TECHNIQUES
Many experts have found that the rhythmic breathing and slow stretching moves
in pilate exercises can elevate mood and provide an enhanced sense of well-being in
depressed persons. These classes are
increasingly easier to find at local gyms
and the classes offer great opportunities
to get out of the house, find new friends
and explore the community. If a class is not
quite your style, there are many excellent
dvds you can find at the library that offer
pilate training for beginners all the way up
to the most experienced masters.
6
HELP OTHERS
People who suffer from depression
are often focused on themselves and the
pain they are experiencing, but putting
those feelings aside to help people does
a lot of good. Helping others helps them
and it helps you at the same time. Their
joy and appreciation will make you feel a
little sunnier.
7
CONSIDER A CHANGE OF SCENERY
If the area you live in is part of the cause of your depression, you may
want to think about moving. People who live in undesirable neighborhoods tend
to get depressed because they do not feel safe. Changing your environment
can help to reduce or get rid of many of your feelings of uneasiness.
If your depression is flaring up during the winter months, you may want to consider
taking a vacation to a warm climate. Winter flares up depression symptoms because
people are stuck in their house more often. A relaxing vacation on the beach may help
you feel better and help your depression.
8
AVOID LETTING YOUR DEPRESSION SPREAD TO YOUR CHILDREN
If you have children and you suffer from depression, it is important that you do
not let them see that you are suffering. Children feed off of their parents words and
actions and by them seeing you in a depressed condition, they may start to get feelings
of depression themselves.
9
KEEP TRACK OF AND EVALUATE NEGATIVE THOUGHTS
Refrain from any negative thoughts, and be sure and write then down when
they do come into your mind. In this way, you can re-examine just why you have these
thoughts, how they make you feel, and how to substitute these distorted thoughts with
positive, happy ones. Only when you understand your negative thought patterns can
you rediscover positive thinking.
START SETTING GOALS
A great tip that can help you fight depression is to start setting goals. The simple
act of setting goals can have a tremendous impact on your brain. You’ll start thinking
differently and trying to figure out what you need to do in order to achieve your goals.
As you have seen, treating depression is not as scary as it may appear at first. Just think
of all of the benefits it can give you and how beginning treatment now can improve
the quality of your life much sooner. Get some help from your doctor, and try applying
these tips to help you conquer your depression.
9 REASONS YOU SHOULD
VISIT A
CHIROPRACTOR
by
Tess Kimble
Surely after reading through all of this great information, you will be excited
about paying the chiropractor a visit. Have a look!
Do you have any
experience going
to a chiropractor?
If not, then you’re
in for a treat as you
learn about how chiropractic
care can help you. If you have
tried other things and are
in pain or feel discomfort,
then find out about this great
option that can wind up
changing your life.
1
CHIROPRACTIC CARE HELPS THE IMMUNE SYSTEM
A chiropractor can even help improve your immune system! Whenever your spine
is misaligned, it affects your nervous system which can negatively affect your immune
system. Having your spine realigned by a chiropractor will increase the blood that flows
into the nervous system. This helps you battle against infections.
INSURANCE MIGHT
COVER THE COST
Call your insurance company before going
to your chiropractor. Not every insurance
plan covers chiropractic care. Make sure
you know what your insurance covers prior
to being surprised afterwards. Be sure to
also ask how many appointments you are
allowed to have in any given year. There
are often maximums.
3
THE RIGHT CHIROPRACTOR
IS OUT THERE
If you are looking for a chiropractor,
conduct telephone interviews with them
before going to them in person. Keep
in mind that potentially a majority of
chiropractors engage in practices that
are not scientifically backed. Talk to them
on the phone to gauge their personal
attitudes and patterns of practice.
A chiropractor should take a complete
and detailed inventory of your medical
history. This information should include
traumatic events that have happened
in your life as well as any diseases you
currently have. To be able to provide
you with the best possible outcome, it is
important for the chiropractor to have a
complete medical picture of your health.
Be wary of chiropractors who suggest longterm
care without any goals. You shouldn’t
have to be dependent on a chiropractor
for the rest of your life. Don’t waste your
time and money. If a chiropractor suggests
long-term care, they should have some
sort of a goal in mind for your body.
4
YOU CAN TRACK YOUR PROGRESS
If you are visiting a chiropractor
regularly, track your progress over the
first five sessions. If you aren’t seeing any
improvement at all after just these first
few visits, you are probably wasting your
108 Issue 2 • March 2017

time. Look for another caregiver and then give them a try of at least three sessions.
Beware of chiropractors who claim to fix all your problems with just one adjustment.
This type of chiropractor will try to convince you that you do not need your OBGYN,
doctor or psychologist because he can do everything for you. A good doctor will know
their limit and will not mind working as part of an integrated group of doctors.
5
A DOCTOR CAN DIAGNOSE YOU FIRST
Before you consult a chiropractor, make sure a competent medical practitioner
diagnoses your problem. Do not rely on the diagnosis of a chiropractor. Even though
there are chiropractors who know enough to give a proper diagnosis, it is hard for a
consumer to determine who that can be. As additional precaution, ask your chiropractor
to talk about your care with your doctor.
6
DOING YOUR OWN RESEARCH
IS A GREAT IDEA
Research what chiropractic really is
prior to going to a chiropractor. A lot of
people have strange ideas about what
these doctors do. They think chiropractic
does strange things to your bones or
muscles. It’s not true. There’s a lot of
great information online that will help you
understand the benefits of chiropractic.
YOU CAN HELP MAKE
SESSIONS SUCCESSFUL
7
Breathe deeply while getting your
chiropractic work done. It’s important that
you don’t hold your breath! You want to
breathe in and out with deep breathes
to loosen up your body. This will make it
much easier for the chiropractor to make
the adjustments that are necessary for a
successful session.
8
YOU’LL LEARN HOW
TO PROTECT YOUR BACK
Never twist when you are lifting. Lifting can
be hazardous to your spine, but twisting
while lifting can be even worse. Twisting is
one of the most dangerous movements a
spine can make. Take care to lift with your
knees and make sure that, when lifting,
you avoid twisting your spine all together.
To avoid discomfort when you are applying
ice to painful areas on your back, make
sure that you place the cubes inside a
plastic bag, and then wrap that plastic bag
in a towel or other cloth. While the cold
will work its way through the material, the
cloth protects your back from the burning
that ice can cause.
9
CHIROPRACTIC CARE IS
GREAT FOR PREGNANCY
Pregnancy can be one of the most
anticipated events of a woman’s life.
Unfortunately it is often accompanied
by pain and discomfort caused by the
strain pregnancy places on the joints of
your body. Regular chiropractic care and
reduce back pain and result in shorter
labor times. Visit your chiropractor
for a more comfortable pregnancy.
Well, are you ready to make an
appointment with a chiropractor now?
Surely after reading through all of this
great information, you’re excited about
paying the chiropractor a visit. Plan on a
revitalizing experience, and all you have to
do is relax and let the doctor do his job.
