OXFORD 

A journey to the southernmost part of India 

will lead you to Tamil Nadu, one of India’s 

most affluent states; agriculture competes with 

industry in this thriving economy, and old world 

values blend seamlessly with industrial advances. 

It is here, in the district of North Arcot, 

that India’s leather industry is most active; 

and fittingly, it is from here that we source 

our Oxford leather. Tanning in India dates back 

to 3000 BC and time-honoured traditions have 

been handed down over centuries to ensure that 

craftsmanship and authenticity are maintained. 

Using what is now seen as an antiquated art, 

North Arcot’s leather artisans tan their leathers 

naturally with extracts of wattle and mimosa 

trees. Natural aniline is used for the dyeing 

process to enhance the subtle hues in the leather 

before sheen activation flattens the grain into a 

glossy finish. 

Our Oxford range has an authentic look and feel, 

reflecting the essence of an ancient, 

traditional India.
