One Leg Split Squat - Bulgarian Split Squat

Split squats are a great functional exercise for strengthening and activating your glutes (a wonderful butt exercise) and developing strength, balance, and flexibility for the entire kinetic chain, from your hips through to your feet. Most patients I examine have very weak unstable hips. This is an excellent exercise to strengthen your hips, and core. The rear leg is only used for balance while your front leg performs the majority of the work. Using a Swiss Ball with the Bulgarian Split Squat makes this a more demanding exercise than the standard squat. To make this exercise even more challenging, perform it with a dumbbell weight in each hand. To make the exercise easier, use a chair or bench.
