I have always loved colour and how you can surprise yourself with what goes together
by breaking the rules a little. I grew up in far north Queensland, where rich colour is
everywhere due to the high rainfall and humidity. My Grandmother had a plant nursery
near Tully and we used to spend holidays there. It was such a colourful place, full of exotic
plants, huge fig and pine trees and of course lots of bright green frogs.
I suppose seeing the beauty in plant life has been ingrained in me since I was small. I
am naturally drawn to the colour and shape of flowers and foliage and how they form
from the seeds within. The graphic nature of my artworks simplify the complexity of this
process and allows me to use unexpected colour ways.
To have these artworks translated onto fabric is something I have always wanted to
achieve and with the advances in digital printing and the support of Sparkk, it has been
made possible. I will continue to paint beautiful art to create beautiful textile designs.
