A word of
thanks
First of all, thank you for coming to this concert today. Whether you're listening at
the bottom of Galen Stone Tower, next to an open window across campus, or via live
stream across the country, thank you. Most of the time, when I play concerts, I play
for anyone who happens to be within hearing distance. Today, I play for you, and I'm
grateful that you've chosen to be in the audience.
I first became a member of the Guild of Carillonneurs my Sophomore year. Playing
this instrument has taught me more than I expected. Most importantly, it's taught me
the art of gracefully accepting and recovering from mistakes, no matter how public. This
instrument is paradoxical in that no one knows who's playing, yet everyone can hear you.
It's been meaningful to me to carry on a Wellesley tradition, and bring the sound of the
bells to our community.
I owe my biggest thanks to Margaret, my teacher. Thank you for the lessons, the
road trips, and for the inspiration to keep making music on any instrument I can get my
hands on in the future.
