Agri-Tourism
Sanilac County boasts more than just a shoreline; it is
full of agricultural tourism opportunities! Drive down
Sanilac County roads in the spring planting season
and be amazed at farm machinery in the fields that
can be 20-30 feet wide and 20 feet high! And, don’t
be surprised if you end up driving behind one of these
big rigs as they travel from one field to another; they
take up the entire road! Don’t even think of trying to
pass them; just appreciate them, knowing that those
farmers are working to produce the food you have on
your dining room table!
During the summer, as a tourist in Sanilac County,
you can share in the close-knit atmosphere that is
part of rural living by visiting one or both of our two
weekly Farmers’ Markets in the county. One is located
in Pt. Sanilac, a small resort town along the shore of
Lake Huron, and the other is in Sandusky. In both
communities, everyone is considered a neighbor,
whether you live within the village or city limits, in
the surrounding townships, or are simply passing
through on a vacation.
In addition to farm fresh food production, Sanilac
County has a burgeoning wine-making and beer
brewing industry! Blue Water Winery, with its Tasting
Room at Old Town Hall Brewing Co. and Wine House
in the heart of downtown Lexington, and 3 North
Vines Winery located just two miles west of Lexington
on M-90 use locally grown grapes to produce their
delicious and unique red and white wines.
Lexington Brewing Company located at the Old Town
Hall Brewing Co. and Wine House in Lexington, and
Elk Street Brewing Company in downtown Sandusky
are both worth the trip to Sanilac County, just for
their outstanding thirst-quenching craft beer. Both
establishments brew on site and offer a variety of
menu items sure to please!
And, if you’re looking for something to do with your
family in the fall, put the hustle and bustle of the city
behind you; pick your way through our corn mazes,
pumpkin patches and apple orchards with your family
on a crisp, clear day; breathe in the fresh, bright air
that can be found only along country roads; and
treat your eyes to the beauty of rolling hills and cattle
grazing in the distance.
Whether at the shoreline or while experiencing our
agricultural interior, let Sanilac County seep into your
pores and quiet your heart. For a few moments, a
few hours, or a few days, come share with us the
splendor of rural living.
