If you are looking for a rainy day (or any day) activity, the<br />
original Mast General Store is located on Valle Crucis's main<br />
drag Broadstone Road. Stop in to do some shopping, or grab<br />
an RC Cola <strong>and</strong> a Moon Pie for the real experience.<br />
For big city livin', Boone is just a 15 minute drive from<br />
Valle Crucis Conference Center. (Take Broadstone Rd to Hwy<br />
105, which will take you into Boone) For a small mountain<br />
community, this university town is packed with good food,<br />
good beer <strong>and</strong> plenty of places snag some Appalachian<br />
Mountaineers gear before next football season.<br />
From King Street, you can me<strong>and</strong>er through shops <strong>and</strong><br />
get a bite to eat. One of Taylor <strong>and</strong> <strong>Maggie</strong>'s favorite date spots<br />
in college was Proper, which serves rustic southern cuisine. If<br />
you are looking for a treat after lunch, stop by one of Stick Boy<br />
Bakery's two locations.<br />
No day in Boone is complete without a stop at<br />
Appalachian Mountain Brewery, located next to Boone Mall.<br />
Once you have your brew or cider in h<strong>and</strong>, try to beat <strong>Maggie</strong>,<br />
the reining champ of ring-on-a-string!<br />
