Australian Designers in Milan
As an added bonus, this year we saw a
number of Australia’s Design talent
active in Milan. As part of the Local
Design installation, 11 Australian
creatives travelled to Italy to showcase
their work to the international market.
Tom Skeehan of Skeehan Studios
presented his Hoshi collection while Ross
Gardam presented his limited edition
23K Ora lamp. We’re proud to represent
both ranges exclusively in Australia and
Singapore.
Trend // Colour
Earth tones were again prominent at
this years Salone. Rust and deep
orange were interspersed with a
colour spectrum ranging from deep
red through to musk pinks with soft
yellow and peach also providing the
highlight. Green was still noteworthy,
although there was a swing away from
the deeper forest tones into pale sage
hues.
Trend // Texture
Metallics have not lost their lustre, with
gold and brass finishes living large.
Mirrored and reflective surfaces were
on show, while raw ceramics,
porcelain, velvet and even rattan
made a statement.

This year, Arper explored the contemporary
world through their ‘Together’ project. With a
new creative team responsible for the stand
at Salone, the ‘Together’ theme was
exhibited through a series of rooms
that represent our current lifestyle.
As our work and life becomes more
interchangeable, the rooms within the stand
enabled the furniture to tell the story with the
character of individual pieces adapting to fit
within the space.

A new, complete collection
suitable for contract and
domestic environments, Cila
features a graphic form through
its smooth lines and distinctive
lightweight aesthetic and appeal
of the Catifa family.
The polypropylene shell is offered
in six new and distinctive colour
ways with optional seat or full
In conversation
with Jeannette Altherr
+ Arcos Lounge // Design by Lievore Altherr
Classical architecture inspired by the elegance of the Art Deco era
influences the Arcos collection by Lievore Altherr. Arcos provides a graphic
presence through the distinctive armrests of its armchair or lounge
models in either a single or two seater version.
Designed for utilisation in public spaces, Arcos is conceived to complement
existing Arper products including Parentesit, Steeve and Cross.
Production commences 2018.
Jeannette Altherr is one half of the
Barcelona-based design studio Lievore
Altherr, which she manages with partner
Alberto Lievore. In their nearly two-decade
partnership with Arper, the designers have
created some of the company’s most
iconic collections, including the Leaf,
Catifa, and Parentesit, as well as many
stand and showroom installations.
We sat down with Indesign Magazine and
Jeannette at Salone del Mobile to talk
about her long standing partnership with
Arper and the collections launched this
year, Arcos and Cila.

Ritzwell’s stand this year was focused on
‘creating a space for ease and well-being
in our daily lives, a place where we can
relax in an intimate and cozy ambience.’
Through the use of earthy tones and
warm timbers, the concept was definitely
achieved with the stand – double the size
of 2016 - an oasis of calm in the midst of
modern hustle and bustle.

Beatrix Lounge Chair // Design by Shinsaku Miyamoto
This year saw the release of the new high back easy chair, Beatrix.
Designed by Shinsaku Miyamoto, Beatrix is bold in its design yet offers a supreme
level of comfort. The luxurious and refined form envelopes you as you sit, while
the higher winged backrest creates a level of privacy. A combination of leather
and fabric upholstery with timber frame, provides opportunity for use in the home
or in commercial applications.

+ Taking on the striking theme of ‘From Los Angeles to
Milano.’ the Stua stand, designed by
Home Vice Barcelona, combined industrial steel
structural detail with oversized black and white
architectural images from projects and imagery
that captures the essence of Los Angeles.

Costura Lounge //
Designed by Jon Gasca
‘Costura’ refers to the
noble tradition of tailoring that
has guided the design
process of the sofa. Designed
by Jon Gasca, Stua worked with
artisans, to create a piece of
upholstery that is like a suit that
covers the innovative inside
structure.
Originally launched in 2015, the
Costura sofa has evolved with
the addition of a chaise and
the option for leather upholstery.
+
+
Laclasica Armchair // Designed by Jesus Gasca
Laclasica combines traditional aesthetics of classic timber chairs, and translates
them into a pure contemporary design. Curvy like the human body,
the Laclasica’s shape conveys its sensuality and cosiness in its form. This year
we see an armchair addition to the Laclasica range.
New finish options // Onda + Nube
One of the contributing references for the black and white theme of the
Stua stand was the launch of black frames on the Onda barstool
and Nube. Black is definitely the new black at Stua.

Lievore Altherr Molina and from within their own design studio, their collection of lounges and armchairs
features an emboldened character whilst achieving an optimum sense of comfort. As they welcomed us
into their home at this years’ Salone, a number of new collections were prominent.

with the release of Divanitas Alta. Available in the armchair version only,
a proportional decrease in the depth of the armchair, to suit today’s style of
living. Suitable for a cosy nook at home or at the office, Divanitas Alta complements
the existing lounge collection of the same name.
+
Nilson Lounge //
Designed by Lievore Altherr
Designed by the studio of Lievore Altherr,
the Nilson lounge collection features the
versatility of a backrest in two heights.
The high backrest version of Nilson
comprises a reclinable headrest so
that an optimum comfort level can be
achieved when it is time to relax. The
more traditional, lower backrest expands
the use of the Nilson lounge from
domestic settings into commercial and
office environments. Together with the
two distinctive backrest heights, the
defining feature of Nilson is the unique
apex form of the base, moulded from
cast aluminium and finished to a warm
bronze powdercoat.
A day bed is the perfect complement to
the complete Nilson collection.
+
Club Table //
Designed by CRD Verzelloni
The expressed stitch detail to the edge of the leather table
top on the Club series of tables defines Verzelloni’s signature
style. Available in three sizes at three heights, the Club
collection offers the versatility of a feature stand alone side
table or nesting in coffee table formation. A melamine finish
in a rich wenge colour is an alternative table top surface
with both surface options supported by a 4 way cast
aluminium base finished to bronze powdercoat.

+ Angle Coat Stand //
Design by Lucien Gumy
additional parts to create the
directly into the pole.
The carefully crafted details of the
coat stand make for a sculptural
addition to any space.
Angle is available in a natural or
black finish.
+
Elephant Sofa // Design by Christian Haas
Strikingly simple and elegant, the Elephant sofa is as versatile as it is timeless. Despite its uncomplicated
appearance, it’s in the details where it really shines. The soft form of the armrests ensure comfort while
also offering a level of flexibility. Available as a 2 seater and 3 seater, Elephant’s chaise lounge and
ottoman allow for multiple combinations.
Elephant will be available in 2018.

+
Colour Wood Chair // Design by Scholten & Baijings
The chair is a natural progression for the existing Colour Wood range of tables and accessories.
Manufactured from small laths of oakwood that have been assembled to a single shell, with
no apparent join to form the seat of the frame the chair challenges traditional wood working
techniques. The graphic composition is made through this manufacturing process, creating sharp
conturing lines that protrude outwards. The seat, upholstered with fabric or leather, is designed to
offer comfort, and makes the piece suitable for both home and contract applications.
+
We spoke with leading design duo, Scholten & Baijings, about their Colour Wood
timber chair, the latest addition to their collections with Karimoku New Standard, its
manufacturing intricacies and the benefit of working with the Japanese brand.

collections whilst a number of existing ranges
were enhanced with new models or renewed
finishes.

comfort through the back whilst also
acting as the armrest.
+
+
Ischia Modular System // Design by PearsonLloyd
Inspired by the organic shape of rocks formed by the wind and water over time, the new
Ischia collection comprises a number of freely-combinable individual units.
and oblique lines, balanced out by the strong finishes of timber or marble bases.
allowing for flexibility in public spaces. A pull up table and a co-ordinating woven cane
Face to Face //
Gordon Guillaumier
Gordon Guillaumier had a vision to
reinterpret the idea of a sofa,
transforming it into a space for
one-on-one conversation. The result
is the new Face to Face lounge. Two
backrests mirror each other, while soft
feather cushions invite us to sit
face-to-face and look each other in
the eye. The option of fabric or
leather upholstery with contrasting
cross-stitch ensure the ranges suitability
for a unique contract setting and in
the intimacy of the home.
+
Oliver Sofa // Gianfranco Frattini
Forming part of Tacchini’s growing Design
Classics collection, the Oliver was originally
designed by Gianfranco Frattini as the 857 lounge
in 1957. Minimalist and elegant, Oliver features a
lightweight structure in powdercoat steel with a
timber foot detail. The cross stitched upholstery
detail on the seat and back retain Frattini’s 1950’s
aesthetic while also ensuring comfort.
+
Nebula Screen //
Designed by PearsonLloyd
A design by PearsonLloyd, the
Nebula screens have been
reinterpreted this year with two
different artistic visions. Oriental
Poissons is by artist Jean Dunand
and the spatial drawing series
is by Lucia Pescador. With their
two-dimensional form they
shape a three-dimensional
space.

+ Tacchini Edizioni
Tacchini Edizioni sees a range
of décor and accessory
products, complementary to
Tacchini’s furniture
collection, brought to life.
With the intention to stage
their furniture and design
icons, the Edizioni range of
accessories, included lighting,
rugs, mirrors, ceramics and
clocks, are the details that
complete their vision with
each piece both beautiful
and unique in their own right.
Tacchini, each piece has
care and attention.
across aviation, workplace, urban, healthcare and of course furniture.
We spoke with PearsonLloyd about their partnership with Tacchini,
their new Ischia range and their thoughts on Salone del Mobile 2017.
