Goodwill Awards
NOMINATED BY THEIR TEACHERS FOR THEIR INTEGRITY, RESPECT FOR THEIR PEERS AND TEACHERS, FRIENDLY
PERSONALITY, AND GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP, 10 INDIVIDUALS WERE SELECTED BY WEST STUDENTS AS GOOD WILL
AWARD WINNERS.
Acacia Hernandez
“Acacia exhibits a warm, caring and trustworthy demeanor.
Her dedication and commitment to all that
she does has earned her the respect of her peers. As the
vice president of Spanish National Honor Society, she
took on her role with both energy and enthusiasm.
Wherever life takes Acacia, her compassion and wholehearted
devotion will be well received.”
-Jazmin Barbas, Spanish National Honor Society
Sponsor
Monica Mendoza
“Monica is an incredibly determined individual who
has shown great work ethic, dedication, and resilience
that are admirable to her peers, the wrestling program,
and our community. She leads by example, and others
enjoy being around her because of her likeable personality
and respect towards others. Her goodwill will carry
her towards continued success in the future.”
-Christopher Brassell, wrestling coach
Anna Remus
“There are a lot of quality seniors in this class who
are worthy of the Goodwill Award, but I can’t think
of anyone more worthy of it than Anna. Her academic
strength is well-known yet she is one of the most caring
and encouraging human beings I know -- caring
for and encouraging her friends, family, acquaintances,
school, community and world. She brings out the best
in all of us.””
- Randall Harper, social science teacher
Brenna Skinner
“Brenna is a very committed student, filled with
confidence and self-discipline. She sets high expectations
and always creates a strategy that will allow her
to fulfill them. Brenna has a refreshing sense of humor
that compliments her many academic strengths. She’s
clearly an extremely well-rounded young lady.”
-John Hauenstein, math teacher
Megan Swanson
“She is a great dancer, a gifted choreographer
beyond her years in creativity, and an organizational
wonder. Her co-choreography is a dancer
favorite because of her ability to work so well with
others. Megan is the most humble, kind, talented,
hard working, leader that I have had the pleasure of
working with in many years.”
-Lisa Jacobs, Orchesis sponsor
Ryan Dela Cruz
"Ryan’s sense of humor, positive energy, and creative
intellect combined with his sincere desire to help
others have made him stand out in cheerleading, the
National Honor Society, and as our Student Council
as president. Ryan has already improved the lives of
all of us at Maine West, and he is certain to make the
world a better place in college and in his future career
as a teacher."
-Brian Getz, COACH Sponsor
Nick Hoffman
“Nick has always been a kind-hearted, fun and
motivated member of my band classes. He has always
been full of spirit as a member of the drumline, adding
a touch of both class and humor to all he does.
Nick’s loyalty to the band and the school has always
been above and beyond.”
-Bernie Gertsmayr, band teacher
John Pacini
“I have thoroughly enjoyed working with John
Pacini this year in AP Econ. He conducts himself
like a professional and an adult. In a high school
environment, such attributes can be in short supply.
There should be at least one John Pacini in every
class to set an example for others.”
-Darren Diviak, social science teacher
Max Rothweiler
“When you observe Max in small groups, in class
discussions, and in his school work, you witness the
kind of maturity, leadership, and service you rarely
see in a high school student. Too often, people only
concern themselves with their own needs. Others
give too much of themselves and forget their own
needs in the process. Max is skilled at balancing the
two.”
-Todd Ruder, English teacher
Vincent Wong
“Vincent is one of most talented violinists I have
ever had the privilege to work with. He is extremely
humble, honest and always willing to help his classmates.
He is someone to follow because he will go far
with his career in music.”
-Daniella Valdez, orchestra teacher
