Harassment is a<br />

serious case in our country.<br />

Some people sees this type<br />

of bully like a normal thing<br />

in our country and it can be<br />

a worrisome. Harassment<br />

is have a wide range<br />

of behaviors of<br />

an offensive nature. It is<br />

commonly understood as<br />

behavior that disturbs or<br />

upsets, and it is<br />

characteristically repetitive.<br />

In the legal sense, it is<br />

behavior that appears to be<br />

disturbing or threatening. Harassment in<br />

a workplace did not happen just because<br />

of power but also a lust. It is a serious<br />

issue that we should prevent to avoid it to<br />

become something serious. Harassment<br />

also known as a discrimination toward the<br />

victims which can brought a great<br />

concern to the community and country.<br />

Harassment at<br />

workplace includes<br />

humiliating,<br />

threatening and<br />

intimidating<br />

workers regardless<br />

of gender, race,<br />

religion and<br />

characteristic that<br />

would disturb the harmony at the work<br />

place and it concerns the peace<br />

between the multiracial country like<br />

Malaysia. Workplace bullying like<br />

isolating a worker can derive stress,<br />

anxiety, depression and fear to the<br />

bullied. Basically, employees that comes<br />

from the majority can existing the failure<br />

to understand or accept the differences<br />

from employees from the minority. A lot<br />

of people have a conception that only<br />

females that encounters the harassment<br />

at workplace like sexual harassment but<br />

also it happens to male workers. It<br />

shows that harassment did not happen<br />

just based of gender.<br />

WHY NEED TO<br />

KEEP IT SILENT ?<br />

Workplace harassment can give the<br />

negativity to physical and emotional<br />

health. Any act of discrimination that<br />

disadvantages an employee is considered<br />

as workplace harassment. However, why<br />

so many victims of sexual harassment stay<br />

silent? And a statistic shows that 69%<br />

victims did not complain to management<br />

from India. The survey exposed that most<br />

of the victims felt embarrassed, feared and<br />

short of trust on<br />

reporting to the<br />

management. If<br />

you are facing an<br />

inappropriate<br />

comment,<br />

unwelcome touching, physical<br />

harassment and fairly not being treated<br />

well by their peers and colleagues, you<br />

are the victim of the harassment. You<br />

shouldn’t worries when reporting it but you<br />

should worry if you keep silence. Don’t let<br />

this manipulated you that ruin your future<br />

in silence. You deserved better.<br />

because it protect people<br />

become victims. If your<br />

organization tolerates<br />

harassment, it’s at risk of<br />

lawsuits and penalties.<br />

Here are steps to prevent harassment.<br />

Establish an Anti-Harassment Policy<br />

Every employer needs a strict antiharassment<br />

policy. Many policies include<br />

specifics about what is prohibited,<br />

including innuendoes, propositions, lewd<br />

remarks, “kidding” that is meant to bully<br />

others and display of graphic materials.<br />

Walk the Walk<br />

Cracking down on harassment may<br />

involve a cultural shift at your company,<br />

and make it clear to employees that<br />

harassment is not acceptable. People<br />

who are harassed must also feel safe<br />

going to a supervisor or HR to report the<br />

harassment without fear of reprisal.<br />
