The Royal Thymes is excited to<br />
announce this great news with<br />
our readers. The construction of<br />
the gymnasium and swimming pool<br />
is almost complete. After a final few<br />
touches, the gymnasium and swimming<br />
pool will open for next school year. The<br />
gymnasium and swimming pool will<br />
provide great opportunities for YHIS<br />
students.<br />
The gymnasium will feature<br />
basketball, volleyball, and badminton<br />
courts for the YHIS Royals athletic<br />
teams. YHIS students will also have the<br />
opportunity to join a Swimming Club<br />
as an after school activity. Additionally,<br />

Summer Vacation Preview<br />

Our school’s summer vacation is<br />
coming soon! <strong>June</strong> 9th will be<br />
the start of the vacation. Lots of<br />
students and teachers are already very<br />
excited about summer vacation. On<br />
some teacher’s classroom whiteboards,<br />
the number of days left until summer<br />
vacation is written. Some students plan<br />
to travel to other countries or go back<br />
to their home country. Some might have<br />
to study hard, and some might have a<br />
great break before our new school year!<br />
We interviewed some students<br />
about their summer vacation plans.<br />
To begin, we interviewed 9th grader<br />
Neo Kim. We asked his plan for the<br />
our new athletic facilities will be the<br />
future host site of International School<br />
Consortium (ISC) athletic tournaments,<br />
where students from other ISC schools<br />
in Wuhan, Wuxi, Tianjin, Chengdu,<br />
and Qingdao come to compete with<br />
each other in sports, such as volleyball,<br />
basketball, and soccer.<br />
In fact, the 2018 ISC<br />
High School Soccer<br />
Tournament is planned to<br />
take place at YHIS.<br />
Our new school<br />
gymnasium and pool<br />
will provide great<br />
opportunities for YHIS<br />
students. The gymnasium<br />
is an enormous place for<br />
summer vacation. He said, “I will go to<br />
math academy with classmates. I want<br />
to have a girlfriend.” Then, he told us<br />
the things he liked about this semester.<br />
He said that his grades came out pretty<br />
well, and he liked the soccer team. He<br />
became closer with his classmates. The<br />
things that he was not satisfied with was<br />
that he didn’t have any girlfriend and<br />
could not finish studying his Korean<br />
high school education. His goal for next<br />
semester is to get A+ in all subjects and<br />
finish studying Korean high school.<br />
He added that he wants to participate<br />
well in the soccer team, and to have<br />
a girlfriend. Lastly, we asked what he<br />
wants to do this vacation. He told us that<br />
he wants to go back to Korea and go to<br />
Purple Clothing Worn by Many on Purple Day<br />

As you are probably aware,<br />
purple is our school’s primary<br />
color. Throughout the school<br />
year, there have been school spirit days.<br />
On many of the days, the theme as been<br />
for students and staff to wear purple. On<br />
Wednesday, May 17, the most recent<br />
school spirit day took place. The theme<br />
was to wear purple for school spirit.<br />
You could see many students and<br />
staff wearing purple clothes, especially<br />
the YHIS shirt, on that day. We wanted<br />
to know about what students thought<br />
about wearing purple for school spirit<br />
day, so we interviewed two students,<br />
Lina Choi and Celina Kim, who are<br />
both in ninth grade. When they were<br />
asked “Does purple have any special<br />
meaning to you?,” they both answered<br />
that does not have any special meaning<br />
to them.<br />
When they were asked “What do<br />
you think the spirit day is for?” Lina<br />
said, “Spirit day is for students to wear<br />
the same color and feel uniformed in<br />
the school.” Celina added, “This day<br />
can show the color that represents the<br />
school.” When they were asked “Do you<br />
students to play sports and run around<br />
comfortably, with lights on the ceiling,<br />
and padding on all of the walls for<br />
safety. The students are very excited<br />
to use the new school gymnasium and<br />
pool next school year.<br />

We also interviewed Mrs. Price.<br />
We asked what her plan is for summer<br />
vacation. She said she will go back to<br />
the United States and visit her family.<br />
She looks forward to enjoying the foods<br />
from her home country. Sadly, she will<br />
not be teaching students next semester<br />
because she will be having a baby, so<br />
she told us that she hopes her students<br />
will keep working hard and making<br />
progress.<br />

feels uncomfortable. Lina concluded<br />
that we are being representative of our<br />
school when we wear purple on those<br />
spirit days.<br />
Spirit days, such as these purple<br />
days, allow students and teachers to<br />
feel a sense of unity of culture and<br />
cooperation. The spirit day is very<br />
meaningful and significant for our<br />
school.
