Summer Vacation Preview
by Clloey Jang and Celina Kim
Our school’s summer vacation is
coming soon! June 9th will be
the start of the vacation. Lots of
students and teachers are already very
excited about summer vacation. On
some teacher’s classroom whiteboards,
the number of days left until summer
vacation is written. Some students plan
to travel to other countries or go back
to their home country. Some might have
to study hard, and some might have a
great break before our new school year!
We interviewed some students
about their summer vacation plans.
To begin, we interviewed 9th grader
Neo Kim. We asked his plan for the
our new athletic facilities will be the
future host site of International School
Consortium (ISC) athletic tournaments,
where students from other ISC schools
in Wuhan, Wuxi, Tianjin, Chengdu,
and Qingdao come to compete with
each other in sports, such as volleyball,
basketball, and soccer.
In fact, the 2018 ISC
High School Soccer
Tournament is planned to
take place at YHIS.
Our new school
gymnasium and pool
will provide great
opportunities for YHIS
students. The gymnasium
is an enormous place for
summer vacation. He said, “I will go to
math academy with classmates. I want
to have a girlfriend.” Then, he told us
the things he liked about this semester.
He said that his grades came out pretty
well, and he liked the soccer team. He
became closer with his classmates. The
things that he was not satisfied with was
that he didn’t have any girlfriend and
could not finish studying his Korean
high school education. His goal for next
semester is to get A+ in all subjects and
finish studying Korean high school.
He added that he wants to participate
well in the soccer team, and to have
a girlfriend. Lastly, we asked what he
wants to do this vacation. He told us that
he wants to go back to Korea and go to
Purple Clothing Worn by Many on Purple Day
by Shaina Kim and Wendy Kim
As you are probably aware,
purple is our school’s primary
color. Throughout the school
year, there have been school spirit days.
On many of the days, the theme as been
for students and staff to wear purple. On
Wednesday, May 17, the most recent
school spirit day took place. The theme
was to wear purple for school spirit.
You could see many students and
staff wearing purple clothes, especially
the YHIS shirt, on that day. We wanted
to know about what students thought
about wearing purple for school spirit
day, so we interviewed two students,
Lina Choi and Celina Kim, who are
both in ninth grade. When they were
asked “Does purple have any special
meaning to you?,” they both answered
that does not have any special meaning
to them.
When they were asked “What do
you think the spirit day is for?” Lina
said, “Spirit day is for students to wear
the same color and feel uniformed in
the school.” Celina added, “This day
can show the color that represents the
school.” When they were asked “Do you
students to play sports and run around
comfortably, with lights on the ceiling,
and padding on all of the walls for
safety. The students are very excited
to use the new school gymnasium and
pool next school year.
an amusement park called Everland and
have a girlfriend.
We also interviewed Mrs. Price.
We asked what her plan is for summer
vacation. She said she will go back to
the United States and visit her family.
She looks forward to enjoying the foods
from her home country. Sadly, she will
not be teaching students next semester
because she will be having a baby, so
she told us that she hopes her students
will keep working hard and making
progress.
The Royal Thymes would like to
thank Neo and Mrs. Price for sharing
their summer vacation plans with our
readers. We hope you all enjoy your
summer vacation!
like wearing purple on normal school
days?” Lina stated that purple is not her
favorite color, and Celina commented
that when she wears purple clothes, she
feels uncomfortable. Lina concluded
that we are being representative of our
school when we wear purple on those
spirit days.
Spirit days, such as these purple
days, allow students and teachers to
feel a sense of unity of culture and
cooperation. The spirit day is very
meaningful and significant for our
school.
