The team behind über.
Chris and Kate Buechner first met in university; Chris was
a photographer looking to start up his own photography
studio, while Kate grew up in the midst of a family business,
so they decided to collaborate their skills and begin what
soon became über photography.
As the business grew, Kate started to help out at Chris’
wedding shoots by carrying bags and changing Chris’ films.
“One day I picked up the camera and fell in love with it!”,
Kate would recall.
Chris then spent a few years training
Kate, and she soon became an
accomplished photographer in her
own right, and finding her passion
for family photography.
Kate’s passion for photographing families cumulated in her
being awarded the Professional Family Photographer of the
Year in 2011 by the Australian Institute of
Professional Photography (“AIPP”). This was a huge
accomplishment for Kate and a massive honour.
Passion as a career.
Chris and Kate are both active in mentoring aspiring
photographers and one of their key messages for anyone
looking to turn their passion into a career is to understand
it is a business, and to treat it as one.
“At the end of the day, a business needs to focus on what
the clients wants and needs.”
Moreover, when pursuing a career with your passion,
professionalism and expertise is paramount. Both Chris and
Kate continue to enter AIPP competitions to challenge their
creativity. While some of the work might not be commercial
in nature, it keeps them fresh and exciting for their clients.
über photography has truly earned its reputation after
more than 15 years of photography; family, corporate and
weddings.
The husband and wife team.
While most couples could not imagine working with their
other half, Chris and Kate have been able to find the perfect
balance. They attribute this to understanding each other’s
strengths and working together to combine them.
“Chris is much more creative and more of a dreamer, while I
am the more realistic and the organised one. He pushes me
creatively and I push him back too. We meet in the middle
and we work to our strengths. We learnt very early on that
you don’t bring any disagreements
from work to home, and we have
never had any problems in that
regard!”
