WELCOME TO KINGSTON
They say a city set on a hill cannot be hid but every hill is built on the
foundations of the plains. The vision I hold for the city of Kingston is one of
restoration. Many persons are familiar with plans that have been tabled to
restore several historic sites across the capital; however, they all form part
of a much wider plan to make Kingston the Capital of the Caribbean and
The Pearl of The Antilles.
In December of 2016 the Pullmantur-owned Monarch cruise ship arrived in
Kingston Harbour as the largest ever cruise ship to dock in those waters
and the first ever to do so in over three years. Several others are scheduled
to visit Kingston this year. If we partner this with the hike in demand for
hotel rooms in the capital and the influx of tourists through unconventional
mediums such as Airbnb; we have the recipe for a revival in Kingston’s
tourism activities.
This will not only drive unprecedented commercial activity to the capital but
it is expected to foster opportunities for small businesses and niche markets.
This will bolster the economy of Kingston and undoubtedly underscore the
claim we hold as the Pearl of the Antilles.
It is my vision that all cultures and industries will play their part in realizing this vision of being the zenith of the
Antilles. However such a position comes with responsibilities. Responsibilities such as order, civic pride and respect.
Regardless of administrative efforts, if the stakeholders of this great city; the citizens; do not manage and market
its resources to the best of their ability then nothing will be changed regardless of the billions invested.
Kingston is a brand that must be leverage to the benefit of the people of Kingston & St Andrew and indeed,
Jamaica. Kingston is a catalyst for growth and development and the municipality will dedicate all resources to
making brand Kingston a success.
We are a city that hath foundations and a rich cultural history. A history and culture that the world is hungry for. Let
us feed them and keep them coming back for more. What happened in Kingston THEN is history, but the possibilities
for Kingston NOW remain a promise. Join in realizing the vision to demonstrate emphatically that Kingston IS the
Pearl of the Caribbean.
