PRINCIPAL WRITER<br />

Dr. Johannes Hartlapp<br />

Dr. Johannes Hartlapp, born 1957 in Halberstadt, Saxony-Anhalt,<br />

Germany, grew up in former East Germany. He first learned the<br />

profession of joiner and cabinetmaker, then obtained his Preacher<br />

Diploma at Frie<strong>de</strong>nsau Adventist Seminary. From 1980 to 1995 he<br />

served as a pastor in the Westsaxonian Conference, and 1986 to 1990 as<br />

the youth-<strong>de</strong>partment secretary in Chemnitz. In 1993, he earned a MA in<br />

Religion at Newbold College (Andrews University). Since 1995 he has<br />

served as a professor in Church History at Frie<strong>de</strong>nsau Adventist<br />

University. In 2007, he obtained a doctorate in theology at Martin-<br />

Luther-University Halle/Wittenberg. From 2000 to2003 and again in<br />

2011to2015 he was the Dean of Theology at Frie<strong>de</strong>nsau Adventist<br />

University. He and his wife Dorothee have four children.<br />

Brent Blum lived the first half of his life in the United States, in the<br />

Mountain View area of California. He trained as a nurse in Hamburg,<br />

Germany and worked there for several years before studying theology at<br />

Frie<strong>de</strong>nsau Adventist University, near Mag<strong>de</strong>burg. While there he<br />

studied un<strong>de</strong>r Johannes Hartlapp, the principal writer of the Youth<br />

Week of Prayer readings, and became very familiar with his teachings.<br />

Before returning to full-time freelance translating Brent served as a<br />

pastor in Lower Saxony Conference, North Germany.<br />
