An elevating experience
Itʼs true you can eat excellent
food at home, so you could argue
that dining out has to provide
much more to compensate you
for restaurant food prices.
Having a few hours away
from your home environment,
enjoying unfamiliar views, and
experiencing attentive service,
not forgetting great food,
these are vital ingredients that
can make for a special dining
experience.
My visit to Marco Pierre Whiteʼs
Steak house Bar & Grill was
one such occasion, arriving
on Saturday evening at Crown
Plaza in Plymouth (formerly the
Holiday Inn) which is a high rise
building sitting just behind the
lighthouse on the Hoe. Whatʼs
instantly evident when you arrive
at the top floor to dine, are the
views out across Plymouth,
which allow your eyes much
scope to wander across the
rooftops and the historic naval
seascape. Itʼs something you
just canʼt see at ground level,
the views are stunning.
In terms of the food, the mains
selection did provide something
for everyone, although I was
keen to sample their 28 day aged
T-bone steak meal, particularly
as this restaurant is branded as
a Steak house.
In short, the steak meal was
properly excellent, and at last,
a baked cheesecake (not one of
those disgusting cold set gelatin
versions), and of course, a topnotch
Malbec to accompany the
meal. The meal was simple and
critically, extremely satisfying,
not something you can say of
many fine-dining meals. Add in
fabulous views, superb service
and itʼs easy to recommend to
you an entertaining, memorable
evening out!
Salentein Pr!mus Malbec, Valle de Uco,
Mendoza, Argentina 2013
A vertiable super-star, this wine has to be
tried to believe how good it tastes
Nikolay Todorov, a really excellent
waiter, having come all the way from
his homeland in Bulgaria to work at the
Steakhouse. Great staff can really make an
evening special for diners, it’s an essential
ingredient to the whole dining experience
32
that shouldn’t be underestimated.
