Twilight Programs: 1ielpinq, JarrM be even nwre elflcimt and MWainabl£ by,JOCU4ing, on modern, 4ClutioM tD-perennial probleJM Designed to educate farmers on the most modern methods and techniques for sprayer efficiency and cost savings, the Sprayer Efficiency Twilight program, held this June at the Cavallaro Farm in Florida, was attended by over fifty (50) Orange County farmers representing a wide variety of commodities. Dr. Andrew Landers, a Cornell Engineer, utilized several tools to show farmers how to make small and large changes to increase spraying efficacy and minimize waste and environmental impact Many farmers left the low cost twilight meeting motivated to make improvements to their eq.uipment based upon what they had learned. As one grower shared: 'This fascinating twilight meeting demonstrated the importance of the proper technology for applying pesticides. You can use the best materials, but if you don't apply them in the best way you are wasting time, effort and money.' 9 Above and at Jeff: Dr. Andrew Landers shows farmers how different nozzles on the rig can produce different spray patterns and have alternative uses based upon the individual crops and pests. " - Pro_qram Participant On August 1, ninety (90) farmers and consumers from Orange County attended a program at the Emergency Services Center in Goshen to lea rn more about Solar Farm ing and the options of using solar energy on their fa rms and individual properties. This free program, developed at the request of farmers and landowners who had been approached by companies to install solar arrays on their property, engendered many questions and allowed for practical concerns to be discussed. Bob Somers, from NYS AG and Markets, was one of several speakers at this colla borative event that was jointly sponsored by CCEOC and the Orange County Planning Department Having lea rned more about the science and pros and cons of this technology, local fa rmers and landowners are now better prepared to make educated decisions about the viability of their own solar energy usage. 9 ('.\
