16 WAYS TO
GET MORE OUT OF
YOUR COFFEE
by David
Baker
Follow Us:
These 16 tips will show you how you can really spice up your experience with
coffee and give that next mug an infusion of welcome novelty.
Do coffee terms
like ‘blends’
and ‘roasts’
leave you with
a puzzled look
on your face? Do you know
the difference between
using non-dairy or dairy
based creamers? Maybe
you’re just getting started
on the coffee lifestyle.
Everyone was a noobie at
at something at some point
or another, and then they
learned more about it. If
that thing for you is coffee,
this article will help you out.
For millions of people,
coffee lies at the center
of a daily routine. Starting
your day off with a
great tasting cup of joe
sets you up to have a
productive day, regardless
of your activities. A bad
pot can ruin all of that!
of the whole process.
Here are some pretty simple ways to
enhance your coffee experience forever.
Whether you’re willing to invest in a new
maker or just slightly change your brewing
method, I promise these tips will make a
difference. Personally, number 9 made it
all for me.
1
INVEST IN A KEURIG
If you often find yourself needing
only one cup of coffee at a time, consider
investing in a Keurig coffee maker. You will
be able to brew one cup of coffee at a time.
You will also have plenty of different flavors
to pick from. There are several coffee
makers with many different features.
2
TRY A FRENCH PRESS
In order to create coffee with a
delicious, rich flavor, try a French press.
In a drip-style machine, the filters take in
most of the oils. A French press works by
using a plunger to push the ground beans
down to the base of the pot. This leaves
the bean’s oils within the coffee, giving it a
rich flavor.
3
HOMEMADE LATTES
WITH DECORATIONS
Do you plan to offer coffee the next time
you have company? Think about making
homemade lattes that you decorate on
your own. With just a bit of practice, you
will be able to impress your guests by
creating basic flowers or leaves. Use milk
and melted chocolate to practice when
you make your own.
4
CLEANING YOUR MACHINE
Is your dripping machine providing
you with satisfactory coffee? Try running
a cycle through with just water. Let it go
through the full cycle, but skip adding
the coffee. When it’s heated the full cup
of water, you may begin again with the
grounds. You can also use this technique
to clean your coffee maker.
5
STORE BOUGHT COFFEE BEANS
After you open store bought coffee
beans, do not continue to keep them in
their retail package. You must place them
into an airtight container to protect them
from air and light. This simple step helps
to preserve the beans’ freshness.
6
TEST OUT YOUR COFFEE MAKER
Test out your coffee maker before
actually brewing any coffee. You want to
put water through it before you put any
coffee through it. That eliminates dust or
odors that can accumulate in machines
prior to purchase.
August 2017 9

7
OLD COFFEE MAKERS
For the best results from an older
coffee maker, first brew some hot water
before you make any coffee. When you
have brewed the water and it is hot, put
the coffee grounds from the beans in.
This helps provide the best flavor and
very hot coffee.
8
GOOD COFFEE BEANS
Good coffee beans are the most
crucial ingredient in a good cup of coffee.
Search around at your local area stores.
You can usually locate fresh roasted beans.
If you don’t live close to a good source, try
looking online to find what you need. You
might pay a little more but it will not be as
much as a coffee shop.
9
FRESH ROASTED BEANS
Using freshly roasted beans really
produces the best coffee. When purchasing
whole beans, always take a look at the
expiration date to see when the beans
were roasted. The best place to buy beans
is a specialty store, rather than a common
grocery store.
CONICAL OR FLAT GRINDING BURRS
Consider purchasing a coffee grinder
that has conical or flat grinding burrs. If you
do, you will find that there is not as much
heat created. This keeps your coffee tasting
good. If the grinder has blades, you don’t
know what you are going to get each time
you brew some coffee. They create too much
heat and can lead to burnt beans.
ADD SOME CHOCOLATE SYRUP
Add some chocolate syrup to your
coffee for a quick and inexpensive boost.
It can be a flavorful way to give additional
energy to your cup. Coffee with dark
chocolate flavor provides a nice dose of pep.
USE FILTERED WATER
If your morning coffee does not
taste quite right, keep in mind that water
that does not taste good will produce
coffee that does not taste good. If the
water from your tap has a consistently bad
taste, attach a filter to the tap. You can
also use a simple pitcher that contains an
internal filter or you can use bottled water
to brew coffee.
10
August 2017

HOMEMADE ICED COFFEE
When making iced coffee at
home, do not use the traditional method
of simply making the coffee and pouring
it over ice cubes. This tends to water the
coffee. An alternative method that works
much better is to brew some coffee, then
pour the coffee into the slots of a common
ice cube tray. This will allow the iced coffee
cubes to keep your coffee from becoming
too watered down.
AVOID ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS
Use artificial sweeteners? Often
artificial sweeteners will make the coffee
have a bland taste. If taking your coffee black
isn’t an option, try using a little raw sugar.
If you still prefer an artificial sweetener, at
least try settling for just half a packet.
TRY SPECIALTY BLENDS
If you cannot find a variety of
coffee that offers the flavor you desire,
try a blend that combines several
flavors. Specialty coffee shops can help
you to choose the best blends for your
preferences and may also be able to offer
you a sample before you buy in bulk.
CHARCOAL FILTERED WATER
When you brew coffee, use water that has been charcoal filtered.
You can purchase a charcoal water filter for your sink so that all your tap
water is filtered by charcoal. You can also buy coffee makers with builtin
filters. Another option is buying charcoal filtered bottle water at the store.
If you didn’t know anything about coffee before reading this article, you do now. Coffee
may appear complicated, but once you learn the basics, it’s pretty easy. Keep the tips
from above in mind to make the best coffee.
7 FINANCE QUESTIONS TO
ANSWER REGARDING A MORTGAGE
by
Chuck Meriwether
Follow Us:
So you’re thinking of taking on a mortgage. Before you sign off on that dotted
line, take a good look and ask yourself these 7 questions.
You’ve probably already
asked yourself the question,
but here it is again: are
you ready for a mortgage?
This is a big step and it will
require serious planning. A mortgage
affects your finances for many years in
the future. Before signing the dotted
line, take a look at these questions.
For many people, financial goals seem more
like dreams than anything. Accomplishing
your goals, in any setting, has more to
do with approach and mindset. The time
for planning is right now, in this moment.
Don’t make the mistake of signing a paper
and chaining yourself to a weight you
aren’t ready to carry. When it comes to a
mortgage, you want to shoulder that load
with comfort and even some swagger. It
pays to be prepared.
1
WHAT IS YOUR CREDIT SCORE?
Credit score does, in fact, have an
effect on mortage rates. Check yours
before buying a house. Should you
consider raising it in order to get a more
desirable interest rate? High scores,
generally, during the three previous years
with no late payments will get good rates.
August 2017 15

2
CAN YOU HANDLE MAINTENANCE COSTS?
It’s crucial to think about the cost of maintenance before purchasing a house.
The mortage is only one facet of the total cost, and maintenance is another. Will you
be able to afford a new roof or air conditioning system when they need replacing? Also
think about whether or not your monthly budget has enough savings for maintenance.
Consider DIY projects and hiring others for these tasks. It involves expensive, ongoing
projects: costs that you need to be ready to pay.
You may not think it at first, but a simple glass savings jar can be the main difference maker in your
future financial habits.

3
IS YOUR JOB SECURE?
Prior to signing a loan, be honest
about your job security. If there are
changes, how will you handle them?
Evaluating your job future is a big part
of this planning process. You’re going to
want to think about emergency funds and
savings. With job situation changes, can
you still make monthly mortgage payments
if you go through with the purchase?
4
DO YOU HAVE ALL
THE PAPERWORK?
Don’t underestimate the amount of
paperwork for a mortgage. Lenders can
ask for old tax statements, savings account
statements, check stubs, and more. If your
credit score is high, you could get a no
documentation loan. It’s a rarity, so you
should have your files prepared anyway
and collect the papers you need.
16
August 2017

5
HAVE YOU CALCULATED THE
HIDDEN EXPENSES?
Owning a home comes with many expenses
that extend beyond property taxes, insurance,
appraisal fees, and mortgage closing costs.
One hidden expense is more bills. If you’ve
only rented, you’re going to have new monthly
bills added. Trash collection, recycling, water,
and sewage are a few. Home insurance costs
more than renter’s, and older homes cost
even more. What’s more, you’ll probably come
across homeowner’s association fees. You
may have heard of condominium association
fees but are you ready for this?
6
DO YOU HAVE AN
EMERGENCY FUND?
From flooded patios to broken dryers,
emergencies come in many shapes and
forms. Be ready for anything, including the
common and the unplanned. Emergency
funds are a more effective option than
loans or credit cards for obvious reasons.
You always want to avoid new debt.
August 2017 17

7
ARE YOU APPLYING FOR OTHER CREDIT?
Mortgage lenders can get access to
your credit report and see applications
for other types of loans. Doing this can
hurt your loan since these companies
see these applications as risks. You
might want to wait before getting
another credit card. What’s more, these
applications lower your credit score
which in turn affect your interest rates.
A mortgage is something that will
undoubtedly affect many areas of your
financial life. It’s a responsibility that
deserves proper planning before you buy
a house, so consider how your current
situation will be influenced and remember
to plan for emergencies the right way.
a vacation they won’t forget. As you drive to the manor house, you’ll be greeted by an
impressive view. Whether you stay in the lodge, cottages or the inn, all offer access to
the 5,500 acres of outdoor mountainside. From hiking the 30-mile trail, the golf course,
and the Adventure Center, which has rock climbing, paintball and zip lining, the action
will keep going. And if you’re looking for time in the water, there’s a lake and two pools
on the property. The all-inclusive rate is $130 to $500 a night, including meals, drinks
and some activities.
TRAVAASA HANA, HAWAII
Sure, it won’t be easy to get there.
But once you are there, there will be no
question of whether it’s worth it. The
Travaasa Hana, located in the town of Hana
on the east edge of Maui, is everything
you’d picture a Hawaiian resort to be.
Not to be confused with sandy beaches,
however: you’ll experience unforgettable
hikes, majestic waterfalls, and stunning
rocky ocean views. It’s been voted the #1
Resort in Hawaii by Conde Nast Traveler,
and the experiences are endless. For
adventure, try canoeing, horseback riding
by cliffside, and even stand-up paddle
boarding. Don’t forget to try some of the
local Hawaiian traditions, and of course
the spa. The all-inclusive deal is called
the Total Travaasa, and gives you meals,
non-alchoholic beverages, and $125 spa
credit every day. The rates go from $500
to $1,200 a night.
14 AWESOME
ROAD TRIPS ACROSS THE PLANET
by
Chuck Meriwether
Follow Us:
When you hear the term ‘road trip’, you probably picture a drive to Florida. But
when you see some of the trips on this list, you’ll think differently.
absolutely love road trips. I
I
also happen to love making
lists, so it was a no brainer
to come up with a list of the
best car journeys imaginable.
In order to complete the list, I included
suggestions from travel writers and good
friends. The one condition was that the trip
be outside of the United States, so what
I got was a list of very original answers.
I think you’ll find that this list is right
on the money. The interesting part
is that while I haven’t been on all
of these road trips, many of these
definitely belong on a must-go list.
Some of the pictures are breathtaking.
Of these 14 road trips, my favorite would
have to be number ten. My second
favorite would be lucky number seven, as
it so happens. But any one of these are
worthy of your favorite pick, so read on
and let others know what you think!
We tried them all: thrusts, crunches, planks. Then we got bored and came up with some fun ways to
shred those abs. You won’t be disappointed!
MALLORCA SPAIN
Mallorca, Spain is a gorgeous Spanish
Island nestled in the Mediterranean.
The up and down turns while driving will
certainly ensure an exciting ride, and the
road through the Escorca region to Sa
Calobra village are worth it. If you can,
visit the Escorca Restaurant where you
can grab some real comida de campo, or
country food. The suckling pig, roasted
goat, lamb and rabbit are one of a kind
dishes you can’t get anywhere else.
2 BULGARIA
That’s right: all of Bulgaria. You’ll find
fields of sunflowers that won’t ever end,
historic buildings, mountains capped with
glistening snow, and grassy slopes. Along
the way, do make sure to make plenty of
stops. Of the best places to visit, consider
Rila, Plovdiv, Veliko Tarnovo, Varna, and
Govedartsi. The 10th century monastery
in Rila is amazing, and the scenic lakes
of Govedartsi and the food from Veliko
Tarnovo will be a shining memory.
3
THE CABOT TRAIL IN
NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA
On Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia lies
one of the most unforgettable road trips
in the world. You’ll be keeping a tally of
wildlife and the scenic trails will make you
want to stop for just a moment and take it
all in. But keep going, and the views of the
ocean on one hand with the mountains on
the other...it’s truly amazing.
4
CAPE POINT ROUTE OF CAPE
TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA
A one day drive, Cape Point Route is mainly
a long winding road. The Hout Bay next to
you will offer some stunning visuals of the
South Atlantic and Southern oceans. You’ll
meet African penguins (that’s right, up
close) and can stop at the local vineyards
for a special respite.
5 SCOTLAND
For your trip in Scotland, start
in Edinburgh and make your way to
Stirling Castle. I’ve always wanted to see
a medieval castle in person. Continuing
to Loch Lomond National Park, you’ll spy
a magical scene only found in Scotland.
Next, stop near Fort Williams for the
Glenfinnan viaduct. This is where a scene
from Harry Potter and the Chamber of
Secrets was shot. A place you definitely
don’t want to miss? Loch Ness, of course,
and keep an eye out for Nessie.
6
SOUTH AFRICA’S KRUGER
NATIONAL PARK
Of this list, this is probably the slowest road
trip as the speed limit is 25 mph. But that
doesn’t mean the thrills won’t make up for it.
The area encompasses more land than some
32
August 2017

countries, all for the preservation of African wildlife. With wildlife crossings and the bellows of
lions, no road trip is truly comparable.
7
MEXICO’S PALENQUE AND SAN CRISTÓBAL DE LAS CASAS
If you find yourself in Mexico for a road trip, rent a car and prepare for the drive
from San Cristóbal de las Casas to Palenque. It’s a one day trip that might be the most
bump and hill ridden road ever. Don’t miss Agua Azul, the majestic natural blue waterfalls.
8
THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES
Another excellent road trip is the
drive from Abu Dhabi to the Qasr Al Sarab
Desert Resort in the United Arab Emirates.
Of the two hour trip, an hour and a half
will be flat roads that will awaken your
need for speed. After that, there will be
tons of curves that will take you to Rub’ al
Khali, or the Empty Quarter (the second
biggest sand desert in the world). At the
end of the road, the resort will seemingly
appear out of thin air.
9
ONTARIO, CANADA
Driving through the Trans-Canada
Highway in Ontario is a one of a kind trip.
You won’t find any towns but the stops are
none the less amazing. You’ll be alongside
Lake Superior, which is so big that you’ll
feel like you’re next to the ocean.
GRAND CAYMAN ISLAND
IN THE CARIBBEAN
Few people head to the Grand Cayman
Island and think “Road trip!” but you
August 2017 33

seriously should. Begin in Hell (yeah) and
finish at Rum Bay. The island is only 22
miles wide so the trip won’t likely take
longer than an hour excluding stops, but
I recommend that you do stop and check
out every beach. You may find a great
snorkeling spot you wish to indulge.
SOUTH ISLAND, NEW ZEALAND
Of the two major islands in New
Zealand, the South Island has rocky
coastlines and long, dirt roads that weave
throughout the jaw-dropping mountain
ranges. You probably won’t find a sight
like this anywhere else in the world. Every
turn leads to more visuals that will require
a photo. If you choose to camp for the trip,
this place will feel like a new world.
THE AUSTRALIAN BUSH
From what I’ve heard, the
Australian bush is an incredibly exciting
place to drive through. That’s both
because of the stunning scenery as well as
the potential danger of wild wombats and
kangaroos. The best time to see the light
is also the most perilous time (dawn and
dusk), so be careful!
34
AUSTRALIA’S GREAT OCEAN ROAD
For 158 miles along the southeastern coast of Australia, you’ll find the Great
Ocean Road adjacent to the chaotic Southern Ocean and a series of curves alongside
majestic views. The ancient limestone stacks left by millennia of erosion sit alone on the
shore. You’ll spy kangaroos, emus, koalas and penguins on this trip, and finish at the
Twelve Apostles.
THE GRAND PACIFIC
DRIVE - AUSTRALIA
If you live in Australia, you’re seriously lucky.
I mean, clearly that’s where I need to be:
with this conclusion of the list I’ve tossed in
three distinct road trips, all in Australia. The
Grand Pacific Drive is just another that I’ve
heard great things about, beginning in the
Royal National Park of southern Sydney and
ending with the town of Nowra on the New
South Wales South Coast. Paying attention
to the signs will help you make stops at the
beautiful towns and beaches, as well as the
Sea Cliff Bridge and Wollongong Lighthouse.
11 SMART WAYS TO
SHOP WITH
COUPONS
by David
Baker
Follow Us:
If cutting your food budget by 30 to 50 percent sounds appealing, this article
will definitely be worth the read.
It’s a rare family that’s
not on a food budget.
The family food
shopper searches for
any way possible to
cut back on the amount of money
spent on food. One of those is
using coupons. Conservatively
speaking, there are millions of
coupons circulating every day
that could cut your food budget
by 30 to 50% - even more if
you’re willing to turn couponing
into a passion.
1
THE CASUAL COUPONER
Usually, a person will pay
for a whole cart full of groceries
while utilizing fewer than 10
coupons. Normally they’ll
save a few bucks on the entire
transaction. Taking a Chex Mix
coupon for example, I could walk
into a drug or grocery store and
find Chex Mix for $2.99 and hand
over my coupon, allowing me
to save 55 cents after the price
drops to $2.44.
ARE YOU A GENERIC BRAND
STORE SHOPPER?
A lot of people find themselves in this
category. They’ve found that they could save
more money buying the generic brand over
the name brand even if they were to use a
coupon on the name brand. By shopping for
only generic brands, a person can save up
to $300 a month - and all without using any
coupons. Going back to Chex Mix, I’d save a
lot more than 55 cents if I buy the Generic
Mix, which was $1.49 a bag. The problem a
person will have here is if they prefer the
taste or quality of a name brand.
3
FOLLOWING THE RULES OF THE
COUPON DEAL SHOPPER
When the timing is right, you can save
more buying name brands than generic
stuff. Items often go on sale, and it is at
this time that you can capitalize on the
opportunity. Combining a store sale with
a manufacturer’s coupon, you can get an
item almost for free. Being a coupon deal
shopper is like aligning the Sun, Earth and
Moon. In a way similar to how you get a
solar or lunar eclipse, you can walk away
with groceries at prices you’d think weren’t
possible. Wait for those sales.
40
August 2017

4
SOME EXTREME COUPONING
You can start saving between 70% and
95% on everything. Yup, that’s right. Follow
these two rules: if it’s not on sale, don’t
buy it and always combine the sale with
a coupon. This could require some more
effort, but if stretching your dollar matters
to you it’s worth it. Looking for multiple
deals can lead you to spending 65 cents
on something instead of over 3 dollars.
Combining store and manufacturer’s
coupons as well as store sales is key.
5
BECOME A SUPER SAVER SHOPPER
Even the casual coupon clipper can
become quite successful overnight and
with more work and dedication become
a super saver shopper. You have to be
patient, flexible and perhaps give up your
favorite brand, but it can be done and
you can save a lot of money. Remember,
coupons are designed to sell a certain
product and get you in the store but if the
item is not one you need and use, then
saving money on that item is a moot point.
August 2017 41

6
WHERE TO FIND FOOD COUPONS
Food coupons can be found
anywhere. The Sunday newspaper is
usually the best source but also look
online, at public libraries and at coupon
swap boxes at the store itself. Some stores
issue coupons at checkout for use on your
next trip. Be sure and note expiration
dates and if a cash value is offered. Don’t
let them expire and go to waste.
7
ORGANIZE BEFORE YOU SHOP
Keep coupons sorted by food type
in an easy to search through container
and match coupons with needs on your
grocery list. Some coupons have mail
in rebates. Beware of this and follow
up. Sign up for a store loyalty card that
usually offers coupons plus bonus points
that are cumulative each time you shop.
Using a store’s own credit card can lead
to double points and free item coupons.
When you combine regular coupons with
sale prices, you’re becoming a super
saver. If a coupon item is not on sale
and it’s not an urgent buy wait until it’s
on sale. Be on the lookout for sale and
bonus points tags.
8
COMPARE THE ADS
It may pay you to drive to more than
one store if it’s an item you need, have a
coupon and it’s not available anywhere
else. But, before you burn up extra gas,
ask if the store honors its competitor’s
coupons. Many will do this just to keep
you in the store. You can call ahead to
save a trip.
42
August 2017

9
ALWAYS CHECK STORE POLICY
Every grocery chain will be different
in terms of how they handle coupons
so you will want to know the answers to
several questions every once in a while.
Does your store ever double a coupon’s
value? Do they have special discounts for
veterans, students, or seniors? How about
competitors’ coupons, do they double
those? And especially important, do they
place limits on the amounts of doubled
coupons?
A DOLLAR MARKETING TOOL
Don’t be susceptible to the 2 for
a dollar marketing tool unless it’s to your
advantage with a coupon. If you need two
of the item go ahead and buy them; but
save by buying only one if that’s what you
need. For example, the sign may read: 15
limes for a dollar. Unless you’re a big lime
user, some could go bad before you use
them.
STRETCHING YOUR FOOD DOLLAR
There was a time when some
shoppers felt using coupons was not
appreciated by the grocer and hesitated to
use them. They didn’t want to hold up the
line while the checker scanned coupons.
It’s a faster and easier method now with
computers. Some of these strategies may
not be right for you. It takes practice and
patience, trial and error. If stretching your
food dollar is your goal, there are few
better ways than using coupons.
10 SAVVY WAYS YOU CAN
RAISE YOUR CREDIT SCORE
by
Chuck Meriwether
Follow Us:
With a few simple changes, you could find a huge difference in your credit score
and take advantage of better insurance, interest rates, and more.
Even if your credit score seems abysmal, you don’t have to accept that it
will stay in that state. There are many actions you can take to resurrect
it, and it starts with the desire. Once you’ve decided that you are going
to do this for yourself, the dominoes will fall in the right direction.
With some hard work and a bit of dedication, you can see results rather quickly. Take
that first step forward. It’s never too late to begin the process of making a change.
These are simple changes you can make that will raise your credit score. This affects
your insurance rates, important financial products, and loan interest rates, so it pays to
make that score as high as possible. Take these ideas into consideration:
August 2017 47

At the end of the day, it’s all about saving your hard-earned money. Okay, your easily-earned money,
too. Here’s how to save money at the dollar store.

1
GOOD CREDIT HISTORIES
Piggyback on good credit histories.
Using a family member or friend’s good
credit history is a great place to start. Add
yourself to an account in good standing,
and your score will start improving. In
fact, most credit cards allow the adding of
family and relatives. You’ll be able to pay
bills and make purchases.
2
KEEP THE OLD ACCOUNTS OPEN
Keeping the older accounts such as
credit card accounts open is important
because these influence credit scores.
If you close them down, your score may
decrease. Age is also taken into account.
A history of maintaining credit affects
older accounts positively. These accounts
can also add to the level of credit you can
get, which lowers the percentage you’re
currently using, in turn raising your score.
3 AUTO-PAYMENTS
Setting up automatic payments is a
great idea, conveniently paying your bills
every month. You’ll avoid late payment
and fees, and it’ll improve your score as
you prevent those issues.
48
August 2017

4
PAY MORE THAN ONCE A MONTH
Credit scores rely on what is called
debt utilization ratio. This ratio compares
the debt you have to your credit limit, and
to improve your credit score you need to
lower this ratio. Paying your credit bills
more than once a month may decrease
the ratio, as extra payments lower your
debt while increasing credit availability.
5
GOOD-WILL DELETIONS
It’s possible for you to ask for
lenders or reporting agencies for good-will
deletions, which are requests to remove
late fees, unpaid bills, and late payments
based on prior good history. If you’ve had
few issues and are a long-term customer,
this method will work better.
6
AVOID PRE-APPROVE OFFERS
Those pre-approved offers you get
in the mail? Trash them. These usually
require a credit check, which you want to
avoid since multiple credit checks lower
your score. Also, avoid creating too many
accounts. Managing a smaller number of
accounts is easier of course, since you’re
less likely to make a blunder.
August 2017 49

7
AVOID NEW UTILITY ACCOUNTS
Gas, phone services and electricity
require credit checks. Again, this will lower
your score. Try transferring your utilities
to a new address instead of opening a new
account.
8
REMEMBER LIBRARY FINES
It sounds minor, but remembering
to pay library fines is important. Unpaid
fines can and will decrease your credit
score, since libraries can send those bills
to collection agencies.
9
KEEP AWAY FROM ONLINE
QUOTE COMPARISONS
Those online insurance or loan quotes you
see in the commercials count as inquiries
on your credit score, so stay away. Every
time you ask for a quote, it affects your
score, especially getting quotes from
different websites. Narrow the options you
have before getting the quote to prevent
affecting your score.
SET UP LONG-TERM CREDIT
Rather than switching to a new
company promising lower rates for a
couple of months, think about staying
with the one you have. Why? Credit scores
increase based on good, long-lasting
relationships with lenders. If you make
too many moves, your score may suffer.
Follow these strategies and you may find
that several of them work for you. In the
process of attaining a higher score, careful
planning is integral.
6 IMPORTANT THINGS TO
TEACH YOUR KIDS
REGARDING MONEY
by David
Baker
Follow Us:
Even from an early age, your children can greatly benefit from being taught
early lessons relating to money management.
Ah, yes: money habits.
I’m sure you’ve heard
people say these are
formed from an early
age. For the most part,
this is true. However, it isn’t to say
that bad habits can’t be broken.
Breaking bad habits does get more
difficult as one gets older, however. This
is why it’s crucial for you, as a parent,
to ensure your children have been
exposed to the right way to do things
when it comes to money. They may
not know it, but you could be saving
them a load of stress in their future.
Even at an early age, children can
greatly benefit from financial
education. Money habits are
formed by the age of 7, according
to a study from the University Of
Cambridge. It’s important to begin
basic financial education by the age
of 3, according to the researchers.
Giving your kids the right direction
is important, so here are a few
techniques for them to learn.
54
Building new financial habits that will actually make a difference in your life isn’t easy. But these tips will guide
you along the path to improvement.
1
BASIC CURRENCY LITERACY
To draw on from another study, this
time from Yale University, children can
recognize and recall coins by 3 years old.
Teach your kids about the various coins
and bills, and also think about teaching
them about foreign currencies when you’re
off on vacations. Expanding their minds
and helping them learn about the country
they’re in can be greatly beneficial.
2
MAKE SOME MONEY JARS
This can be a fun way to teach
your child a thing or two about money.
There are three types of money jars for
these basic lessons: giving, spending,
and saving. Instruct them on how to use
the jars, and explain the importance of
each. Separate money after allowance
or birthday gifts, and your children will
remember how to save in the future.
For the giving jar, consider using it for
charities. This will instill in your children
an understanding for how they can help
other people with money. You could
also contribute to a local food pantry or
animal shelter.
3
START USING COUPONS
An important lesson on saving can
be learned through couponing. Along
with your child, cut out coupons and let
them handle the papers at the store. As
young as 5, kids can benefit from using
coupons. Saving money and making wiser
decisions while shopping are just two of
such benefits.
August 2017 55

4
SET A MONEY GOAL
Your child surely has a favorite toy
or desired item in mind. To teach your
kids financial patience, money goals are
an easy strategy. Set realistic goals so that
they’ll keep their motivation. If the toy is
too expensive, they may lose interest. Pick
less expensive stuff.
5
GO SHOPPING WITH YOUR KIDS
Let your children use the
contents of their spending jars at the
store. This lets them think about how
they’ll spend their money, and helps
them decide to either use the jar in
one sitting or spread it out over trips.
This also gives the opportunity to teach
them comparison shopping. Talk about
the different prices on similar items,
and show them the inexpensive options.
Afterwards, they can evaluate the results
and understand the choices they made.
6
HAVE YARD SALES
Yard sales could kill two birds with
one stone: clean out your kid’s room and
also teach them about money. Ask your
kids if they’d like to sell some old clothes or
toys, and make sure to help them with their
selections. Talk about appropriate pricing.
This could help them refill their jars.
If you have older kids, you could let
them help with sales. Tracking change
and watching customers will prove
a valuable opportunity for them
to learn about price negotiation.
As you can see, before your kids are
even in school they can start financial
education. Forming the right habits and
understanding how money works will pay
huge dividends in the future.
EXERCISES FOR GETTING RIPPED ABS
by
Chuck Meriwether
Follow Us:
We tried them all: thrusts, crunches, planks. Then we got bored and came up
with some fun ways to shred those abs. You won’t be disappointed!
Nothing says you’re in great
shape like a chiseled sixpack.
But as you probably
already know, doing a bunch
of crunches isn’t going
to get it done. The best abs workout
combines a variety of movement and
exercises to build a stronger core, hitting
all the muscles between your hips.
These 13 moves are sure to blow away most
ab workouts you’ve encountered. From all
angles, your core will be challenged and
you’ll see results fast. You’ll be surprised
at how easy training your abs can really be.
From utilizing weights to simple body
weight, there are many exercises here
that will suit anyone. We recommend you
give them all a try! If you dislike a few,
that’s okay: several of these movements
can be modified and retain effectiveness,
or even inspire you to come up with your
own exercises better suited for you. Above
all else, I can guarantee you that these are
fun (especially number 13)!
the trips on this list, you’ll think differently.
1
ELEVATED BIRD DOG
Instead of doing crunches all day, try
the elevated bird dog. It’s a more difficult
variation of the bird dog movement, requiring
you to stiffen your core. By lifting your knees
slightly off the ground, keeping your torso
still becomes more challenging. As you switch
your arms and legs, a variety of muscles
work together to stabilize your spine: hips,
obliques, lower back, and of course the rectus
abdominus (six-pack muscles).
2
SINGLE ARM WALL PUSH
This exercise is cool because you
can do it anywhere you have access to a
wall. In terms of a total-body exercise, it’s
great because it hits your glutes, calves,
shoulders, lats, triceps, biceps, and more.
As far as your abs go, the single-arm wall
push trains core anti-rotation: your abs
are stopping your body from turning,
sculpting a six-pack and protecting your
lower back.
3
LATERAL WALL RUN
Training from a different angle is
always a great way to increase the gains
of your workout. Running at a slant
increases the work your lateral line and
core muscles must take on. Essentially,
it’s harder to run slanted than straight up
and down. This exercise helps promote
spinal protection as a strong core protects
against injury caused by jerks and twists.
It’ll also improve your balance, flexiblity
and coordination.
August 2017 61

4
BEAR CRUNCH
This movement gives a real
abdominal burn. As you turn from side to
side, you’ll feel how hard it is to keep your
core stabilized. When you bring your knee
to your elbow, the flexion will leave your
muscles feeling like they were set on fire.
5
INCHWORM SLIDE
The inchworm is a common exercise
during warmup, as it’s a great stretch for
your hamstrings, calves and thighs. Your
muscles will be ready for anything. But
add a towel into the mix and you have
a tough, core-chiseling movement. The
inchworm slide hits your obliques, abs
and hip flexors as you slide the towel
to your hands.
6
SWISS-BALL JACKKNIFE
While it may not be the most popular
tools amongst the majority of guys, it’s
definitely one of the most effective when
it comes to developing a six pack. The
nature of the surface — soft, unstable —
provides a great challenge to your core.
Performing a jackknife on the ball involves
your entire midsection, from your lower
abs and back to your hip flexors, obliques
and glutes.
7
SINGLE-ARM OVERHEAD PRESS
The overhead dumbbell press is
designed to work your shoulder, arm and
upper-back muscles. But a little tweak
can turn it into a great ab exercise. All
you need to do is remove one of the
dumbbells from the equation. By creating
an unbalanced load, the movement pulls
your body to the side. Squeeze your core
to stay upright, and you’ll feel the burn in
no time.
8
MOGUL JUMP
At first glance this exercise looks
like skiing, but it’s effective for training
in a variety of sports. Rotating your body
from side to side in this manner hits your
abs, lower back and hips at the same time.
By increasing the power in your rotation,
you’ll be able to swing and throw with
more velocity.
62
August 2017

9
SKIER SWING
Combining the form of a downhill
skier with a kettlebell swing, this workout
will shred your abs fast. It’s a fun, fast
paced movement that build explosive
power as well as melting fat. From your
shoulders to your hips, your core will be
torched.
PRONE PLATE SWITCH
The plank is an awesome exercise
all around, as it stabilizes your spine,
protects you from lower back pain, and
strengthens your abs. But the truth is that
it’s boring! Prone plate switches spice it
up, thrusting the classic plank into hard
mode. As the plates traverse the front
of your body, your core fights against
rotation. Trust me, you won’t want to go
back to planks after giving this a try.
SIDE CRUNCH
This move is deceptively difficult,
as it tests your balance and hits your
oblique muscles. Focusing on your
obliques is important for having balanced
core strength, and side crunches do just
that. They also work your hips very well.
August 2017 63

V-UPS
V-Ups are tough for beginners, but once you get the hang of the movement it will
be your go-to for total abdominal exercise. Make sure to keep your knees straight, and
allow your abs to work dynamically by beginning each rep with your back on the floor.
WOOD CHOP
Grab yourself a
dumbbell, cable weight
system or medicine
ball and you’ve got the
tools to shred your
abs like a lumberjack.
Kneeling on one knee
with the other foot
forward, use both
hands to lift the weight
over your shoulder.
Avoid turning your
torso, and face
your body forward.
Within 12 reps, you’ll
feel the burn with
challenging weight.
6 WAYS A
GLASS SAVINGS JAR CAN
MAKE A DIFFERENCE
by David
Baker
Follow Us:
You may not think it at first, but a simple glass savings jar can be the main
difference maker in your future financial habits.
For some people,
their financial
goals seem more
like dreams than
anything else.
But it’s absolutely within the
realm of possibility for you
to accomplish your financial
goals, no matter how daunting
they may seem. This article
will get you started on a
glass savings jar, and prepare
you for financial success.
Over the course of one year, a
simple glass jar could save you
a lot of money. It provides the
motivation to stick to a plan,
and helps you put money away
for renovation or vacation.
Of course, it’s not about
what kind of glass jar it is.
Any will do, but make sure
it’s see-through. Seeing the
money as it grows will provide
encouragement for you.
So you’re thinking of taking on a mortgage. Before you sign off on that dotted line, take a good look and ask
yourself these 7 questions.

1
THE 5 BUCK PLAN
This plan is simply saving 5 bucks by
putting it in the jar everytime you get one
back as change. You could even modify
this plan to be for $10, $20, etc. You could
even go with quarters. The point is in
rather than spending the bill, you increase
your jar savings.
2
THE 52-WEEK MONEY CHALLENGE
Every week, you’ll gradually increase
your savings. Begin with just a dollar
for the first week, and every week after
that throw in an extra dollar. Using this
simple challenge, you could save $1,378.
The last week of the year will reach $52.
To help yourself track the savings, use an
online or written calendar. Label each week
with the amount to be added to savings. In the
beginning of the plan, it will be easy of course.
You have to consider the challenge at the end
of finding the extra $52. It pays to plan ahead.
3
THE CHANGE METHOD
You’ve probably heard of saving
your change, but have you actually done
it? It can give good results. After running
errands or going to work, place all your
change in the jar.
August 2017 69

4
THE PAYCHECK PLAN
After you cash your paychecks, think
about adding a set portion of money to the
jar. This plan works for couples, as you can
set aside specific amounts of money each
month from both paychecks. If you have a
financial goal to reach, this will certainly
help. Or even if you’re looking to purchase
a new gadget or save for a vacation, you
can plan for it.
5
THE INSPIRATION PLAN
This plan works best when you
have a photo or image of what you want
to achieve in terms of a goal. Put it near
the jar or even attach it to the lid, and
look at it every day. This will inspire you
to add to the savings jar, and the family
may even hop in. Keep the jar in the living
room for visibility. Of course, the photo
will depend on the goal you set: it could
be a picture of a nice new television or
perhaps a vacation spot. The goal could be
written on paper. Whichever you choose,
the photo will constantly remind you of
why you are doing this in the first place.
6
THE $20 WEEKLY PLAN
Alternatively to the 52 week
money challenge, you’ll be placing a set
portion of money in the jar every week.
You’ll want to track these savings on a
chart or calendar of some kind, and at
the end of the year you’ll save $1,040.
Now you’ve seen how a little glass jar can
save you at least $1,000 over the course of
a year. I seriously recommend giving it a
try: you may be surprised how it can help
you achieve your financial goals.
10 TRICKS FOR
SHOPPING AT THE DOLLAR STORE
by
Chuck Meriwether
Follow Us:
At the end of the day, it’s all about saving your hard-earned money. Okay, your
easily-earned money, too. Here’s how to save money at the dollar store.
We’re all familiar with
inexpensive variety stores
that have been around as
long as you can remember
probably. Originally, there was
the five and dime or just the dime store
and most everything there was a nickel or
a dime. However, inflation couldn’t keep
its nose out of our lives and forced prices
to go higher. And remember, five cents
back in those days would be worth over
a dollar today.
1
LOOSELY DEFINED DOLLAR STORES
Now we have the dollar stores which
are a little misleading even though some
things sell for a dollar or less but others
multiples of a dollar. They sell things such
as cleaning supplies, toys, pet supplies,
ironing boards, garden tools, candy and
food that’s in a can. Most products are sold
for less than at a general retail store but it’s
best to know your prices before you go in.
Some products are generic or private label
brand made specifically for that company.
74
2
99 CENT ONLY STORES
Other merchandise is purchased from
another store that has had an overstock or
close-out sale. You might find items that were
manufactured for a special promotion or
event and are now out of date or sales have
slowed too much to keep it in stock. Wouldn’t
it be nice if a dollar store sold fresh food?
Enter the 99 cents only stores where nothing
is over 99 cents...ever. Well, that’s what they
say. This chain was founded in 1982 and now
boasts more than 260 stores in California,
Nevada, Arizona and Texas. Their total sales
for fiscal year 2006 totaled one billion dollars.
3
THE DOLLAR STORE EFFECT
ON MANUFACTURERS
Dollar stores have added a variety of food
and alcohol depending on what state you
live in, and over the years have become
increasingly alluring to customers. It’s
become an actual consideration for you
to do some grocery shopping here rather
than there. And as more people realize
this, manufacturers are competing with
more profitable brands for space on
those shelves. That’s right: manufacturers
are designing their products for dollar
store shoppers.
August 2017 75

4
DOLLAR STORE CULTURE
They claim to be the oldest single
price retail chain in the country offering
deep discounts on primarily new name
brand merchandise. The good news is
some of their sales include fresh produce,
a deli, frozen foods and occasionally fresh
meat. The deli features mostly cold cuts.
This is in addition to canned goods and
other basic grocery items, plus health and
beauty aids. The inventory varies and not
everything is name brand.
5
EVERYTHING FOR 99 CENTS
Recent ads for produce include
cantaloupe for 99 cents, pound and a
half of plums for 99 cents, dozen eggs 99
cents, milk 32 ounces for 99 cents and five
pounds of potatoes for 99 cents. Even a
large watermelon for, yes, 99 cents. By the
way, the ad didn’t say what size the eggs
were. And, some wine snobs are enjoying
their 99 cent wine.
6
WE’RE ALL LOOKING
FOR A BARGAIN
These kinds of stores, until recently, were
thought of as being in low income areas
and shopped by low income people who
didn’t mind some off brand merchandise
if they could save money. If that were ever
true, that’s changed with the spiraling
cost of food and gasoline. Now, we’re all
looking for a bargain. The 99 cents only
stores pride themselves on having a clean
store with friendly, personal service.
Shelves are fully and neatly stocked, aisles
are wide and the total environment is
fresh and pleasant.
7
BECOME A SUPER SAVER SHOPPER
They even offer more help with a 99
cent only cookbook: gourmet recipes at
discount prices. If you live in one of the
above four states and are trying to trim
your food budget, it might be worth your
gas to shop and see what all you can get
76
August 2017

for 99 cents. It’s just another option for
you to become a super saver shopper,
and stretch the value of that dollar bill as
much as you can.
8
SMALLER PACKAGES AND QUICK TRIPS
Instead of opting to buy in bulk, if
you’re interested in shopping at a dollar
store you will mostly find packages that
are smaller. This lowers sticker prices for
the stores and is more helpful for the older
consumers or people who live in relatively
smaller households. Also, remember that
the dollar store speciality is quick trips. If
you need something immediately and not
necessarily to stock up, you should hit up the
dollar store instead of that Super Walmart.
9
THE TRUTH ABOUT DOLLAR
STORE PRODUCE
So let’s say you’ve made it into the dollar
store for today’s dinner and you’re headed
straight for the produce section. Woah, stop
right there. Keep in mind that dollar stores
are at the bottom of the food chain. They
get last pick from distributors, behind even
gas stations. This means that their produce
isn’t top notch. You’ll get fresher produce at
the supermarket and you’ll have better luck
at finding a promotion for a large sale. That
is, if you aren’t strapped for money. If it isn’t
that big of a deal, stay in the dollar store.
NOT EVERYTHING IS A STEAL
And while we’re talking about savings,
don’t always assume that the dollar store
you’re in will have huge savings guaranteed.
If you’re in there for stuff like candy and
snacks, you’ll be paying more per serving
than at a supermarket. It’s the mere idea that
everything in a dollar store is cheaper that
makes shoppers like you and me buy a box of
cereal out of mindless impulse. So figure out
the cost per serving, and find those real deals.
At the end of the day, it’s all about saving
your hard-earned money. Okay, your easilyearned
money, too. So next time you’re
making the decision of going grocery
shopping and you want to start saving, take
a trip to the grocery store and take a look
around. Compare the prices. Make a list, but
keep it vague. And most of all, avoid buying
things you don’t need.
17 TIPS TO KNOW BEFORE
HIRING LEGAL HELP
by David
Baker
Follow Us:
There are lot of directions to go when it comes to hiring a lawyer. These 17
tips will explain the do’s and don’ts of the whole process.
So you’re thinking
about hiring legal
help. Perhaps you’re
dealing with a personal
dispute, a workrelated
situation, or a personal
injury claim. No matter what it is, it
is of utmost importance that you
know a few things when it comes
to hiring lawyers. Why, you ask?
When it comes to hiring lawyers, a lot
of people think about where to begin.
There are many options, so how can
one decide how to simplify the list?
Here you will learn exactly what you
need to know regarding lawyers.
Knowing the basics of dealing with
lawyers and the do’s and don’ts
will go a long way. The following
advice is simple, but highly accurate.
From picking the right lawyer for
you, to effective communication
and appropriate expectations,
you’ve come to the right place for
understanding the process of hiring
legal help.
These 17 tips will show you how you can really spice up your experience with coffee and give that next mug
an infusion of welcome novelty.

1
DON’T PICK THE FIRST LAWYER
Picking the first lawyer to come your
way is a bad decision. By doing thorough
research you will attain the best results.
Ask other people and discover everything
possible about potential lawyers.
2
AVOID AGGRESSIVE LAWYERS
Avoid a lawyer who is aggressively
pursuing you as a client. This is a red
flag for scamming and the unscrupulous,
typically in large cash settlements. Hire
an honest lawyer on your own terms and
remember to do your research.
3
DEFINE YOUR QUESTION
Define your question before
searching for a lawyer. The first
consideration is whether or not you even
need a lawyer. For real estate, criminal,
or divorce, a lawyer is a good idea. From
dealing with an estate to legal advice on
business or personal matters, the right
lawyer can be a huge difference.
4
SPECIALIZED LAWYERS
Lawyers who specialize in particular
areas of the law may be more expensive
but you will actually save money. In the
end, it’s all about winning and you will
save money.
5
ASK MANY QUESTIONS
Ask many questions to the lawyers
you choose to interview. The lawyer should
address your concerns and demonstrate
a willingness to hear you out despite not
charging. You should be comfortable with
their skills. Remember, you need to be
able to walk away if they don’t make you
comfortable. It means that they aren’t the
right choice for you.
82
August 2017

6
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION
Communication between you and
your lawyer needs to be great. Meet the
deadlines that affect your case if your
attorney tells you so, and do it on time.
The benefits will be many.
7
SIGN A DETAILED FEE AGREEMENT
Before hiring a lawyer make sure you
sign a detailed fee agreement. This lets
you put the case in full attention without
having to worry about monetary details. It
also helps you predict your finances.
8
LAWYERS CAN’T ALWAYS WIN
Remember, lawyers can’t do
everything. There are some things that are
in fact impossible. If your lawyer expresses
that there is no way he or she will lose,
don’t trust that. Don’t trust a lawyer
that says they will always win: nothing is
guaranteed within the law.
9
WORKER’S COMPENSATION CLAIM
Make sure you research in advance
before filing a Worker’s Compensation Claim.
Every state has laws differing in regard to
your claim. What’s more, compensation for
worker’s is apart from other court claims.
These cases have various guidelines and are
different from other cases.
PREPARATION IS KEY
When planning to meet with your
lawyer, preparation is key as always.
Their rate is hourly, and when looking
for paperwork or having them wait they
are still getting paid. Coming to meetings
prepared will both save you money and
get through issues faster.
August 2017 83

USE THE INTERNET
Use the Internet to research different
lawyers. Every business these days has a
website of some sort. Take a look at the firm’s
website, keeping an eye out for professionalism
and experience. You don’t want to settle for an
amateurish group of lawyers.
RESEARCH YOUR
LEGAL PROBLEMS
Before you seek a lawyer, do your diligence
and research your legal problems. Clearly
understand your own issue, and engage
an effective lawyer. Without doing so, you
won’t know where you stand. You’ll find a
good lawyer much more easily.
SEEK A SECOND OPINION
Seek a second opinion if you’re
hesitant regarding your lawyers work. You
may not want to get another lawyer, since
that could be expensive but a second
opinion will always help.
REFERRALS FROM FRIENDS
Referrals from friends or relatives
are great ways to find reliable lawyers. In
fact, it may be the best way.
84
YOUR LAWYER IS BUSY
Do remember that your lawyer is busy. Despite the critical nature of your legal case
for you, your lawyer is probably dealing with multiple high priority tasks. Other clients have
urgent cases as well. Don’t hound them, since your case may not be treated as high priority.
MEET WITH SEVERAL LAWYERS
Even if the first lawyer seems like
a solid choice, always meet with several
potential lawyers. Legal issues take time
so you need to be comfortable with your
choice. The choices you make in the
beginning can be the entire difference.
IS YOUR LAWYER ORGANIZED?
Take a look at the office in
which your lawyer does his work. Take
note of organization, from bookshelves
to paperwork to even clutter on the
floor. It sounds nit-picky but it’s very
important. Lawyers charge you for time
locating paperwork, so a disorganized
lawyer isn’t likely a good choice for you.
Finding a great lawyer is not a quick process,
but doing some research and the right
investigating will land you both the right
attorney, and also the best chance to win.
At some point or another, all of us who went to college were feeling a bit lost. In preparation for your
freshman year, here are 17 tips.

1
NEW BLOG ENTRIES
Create new blog entries regularly
and constantly. This will help your readers
to become excited when they read your
page. This is also the truth when people
subscribe to other publications. Therefore,
stay consistent to make sure visitors return.
2
UPDATE YOUR BLOG
Make sure any blog you keep is
up to date, and contains useful and
relevant information. Update your blog
with information about promotions or
sales your company has coming up.
Also use it to post any news about your
business including closings, location and
changes to the hours - don’t forget to add
them to your blog.
3
SOCIAL MEDIA REFERRAL
When you start up a social media
profile, let your existing customers know
that you have done this. When they sign
up to follow your page, social sites will
inform their other connections. This is
great for you because it’s advertising that
you don’t need to pay for. It is valuable
because it is a referral.
90
4
ADD IN LINKS
You need to tie all of your social
media sites together using links in order to
have the most successful campaign. Insert
links onto your blog so that readers have
the option of following you through Twitter,
Facebook, or YouTube. When setting up
your profile on Twitter, make sure to put
in the website addresses for your Facebook
page and blog. Your customer base
potential increases when you add in links
to all of your social media accounts.
5
PROMOTE YOUR BUSINESS
THROUGH GAMES
Gain exposure by promoting your
business through games on Facebook.
Try to come up with an idea for creating
a game that is associated with your
business, product, or service. Some of
these Facebook games featuring wellknown
brands have even gone viral. Think
about having a professional designer
create a game for your business.
6
VIDEO POSTS
Video posts on YouTube and other
social networks need to have excellent
titles for a number of reasons. Your
titles should contain keywords relevant
to your products and industry. The more
descriptive your titles are, the easier a
viewer will be able to locate them using
their search terms.
7
RESPOND TO MESSAGES
Try your best to respond to all of
the messages and comments you receive
throughout the day. No matter what type
of comment it is, you’ll want to stop in
and leave a reply. If your followers know
you care about what they say, it will be
easier to win their trust. You never want
your customers to feel as if they’re being
ignored, so it’s important that you respond
to people promptly.
August 2017 91

8
ENGAGE WITH CUSTOMERS
One of the fundamental rules of
social media marketing is that you need
to engage with your customers. Pay
attention to what customers say, they are
probably not the only ones who think it.
Make changes if it seems like the majority
of your customers, followers or users are
requesting a specific alteration.
9
RESEARCH THE TOPIC
Research the topic of social
networking. Maybe you have a Facebook
page already, but bear in mind that
professional uses differ from personal ones.
If you have trouble, talk to professionals or
use advice from the Internet.
QUESTION & ANSWER SESSIONS
Use social media to host a question
& answer session with your followers. This
is also a prime opportunity to educate
prospective clientele about what you have
available. Social media websites let you
interact on a personal level which is good
for your business.
TWITTER MANAGEMENT
SERVICES
You should take advantage of the different
services out there that will help you
manage, and stay on top of your Twitter
account. The actual features of these
services vary, but the majority of them
will automatically manage following and
unfollowing individuals for you. Using a
service like this will help you to manage
your followers and find new people to add.
RUN GIVEAWAYS
There are many Facebook apps
which make running a giveaway simple and
affordable. Buyers love to think they are
getting something for nothing. One way to
generate this feeling among your visitors
and raise a little hype is to run contests.
Contests draw an audience that is eager to
learn as much as they can on your latest
products and offerings because they are
hopeful they will win.
92
August 2017

ONLINE CONTESTS
OR SWEEPSTAKES
Hold an online contest or sweepstakes
with appealing prizes and use social media
to let people know about it. People love
to get something for free, and are happy
to enter a contest if they have a chance
to win something good. Make the results
public to enhance your reputation and
generate additional awareness.
OPEN UP THE
COMMENT SECTION
People should feel welcome to post
comments in response to your blog
entries. Especially if you don’t give
out email addresses or other contact
information. Open up the section of your
blog that lets readers post comments, but
do keep an eye on what is being posted.
Delete spam ads or seriously offensive
comments that can clutter your site.
The preceding paragraphs presented
a number of sound strategies to apply
towards better results in your companies
social media marketing campaign. Keep in
mind that this method of marketing can
speak to your customers, cultivate new
customers from anywhere in the world and
get the message out about your business
in a very effective and economical way.
8 FINANCIAL HABITS YOU COULD BE
PASSING TO YOUR KIDS
by David
Baker
Follow Us:
Whether you realize it or not, the habits you carry in your financial life will
have a huge effect on your children, positive or negative.
Sometimes you may be
thinking that your kids never
listen to you. The truth, which
can be good and bad, is that
your kids are always watching.
When it comes to attitudes and habits,
your children quickly take on whatever you
demonstrate. So when it comes to money,
are you showing them habits that are
helpful or harmful for their financial future?
The years during which your children will
solidify traits and quirks will seemingly
fly by. This includes how they will react
towards certain financial challenges
they will encounter in life. In order to
have the greatest positive influence
on what these reactions will be, it’s
up to you to set the right precedent.
People commonly rely on their past
experience when faced with financial
uncertainty. The same goes for your
children: they will draw upon what they
know. If you can set the right example, they
will make better choices. If you haven’t
realized your inadvertent teachings to
your kids, here are some habits you could
be passing on.
Back in the day, all-inclusive trips meant bad entertainment and cheap food. But those days are long gone.
Here’s why.

1
UNWISE CREDIT CARD USE
One of the worst financial habits
to develop is bad credit card use. Sure,
credit cards can be a fast and easy way
to get yourself out of financial trouble
in the moment. But using credit to buy
unnecessary stuff will only cause long
term stress and possibly even bankruptcy.
2
IMPULSE PURCHASES
Children already have problems
with self-control. If you exhibit a lack of
financial control, impulse issues will be
even more of a concern for them in the
future. Show them that purchases should
be decided on before heading to the store.
3
BUDGET DEVIATION
Another example of financial selfcontrol
is sticking to your budget. Make
sure your kids know that a budget is in
place and certain things can’t be bought
because they go against the budget.
4
LACK OF NEEDS AND
WANTS DISTINCTION
Needs need to be taken care of first.
Kids often find it difficult to make
the distinction between needs and
wants - another symptom of lacking
discipline - and want to consider the
wants before critical things. Avoid
showing this bad habit to your children.
98
August 2017

Not all habits are bad. Here are some
positive financial habits that if shown to
your kids will set a great example for them.
5
CONSISTENT SAVINGS
Out of every paycheck, put emphasis
on saving money. Encouraging your child
to do the same with money they get as a
gift or earned is a good start. Think about
how much you’d have saved today if you
put away 15% from every check since
you began your job. An efficient solution
to several financial problems is having a
healthy savings account.
6
TIMELY BILL PAYMENT
Whether you know it or not, your
children see those bills that say “past
due”. If you’ve got bill collectors calling all
the time, they notice that, too. Set a good
example for your child and pay those bills
on time, avoiding late fees.
7
MAKING SACRIFICES
Progress requires sacrifice. Tell your kids that saving for retirement or their
college is more important than buying that new car. Teaching them positive and negative
financial consequences will go a long way. Allow them the option of making a small
purchase and the expense of something else.
8
ENJOYING THE REWARDS
Sacrificing is important, but no one wants to do it all the time. The
whole point is to take advantage of being responsible and making the right
choice. Show your kids that the result of saving money regularly is a new
TV or even a vacation. You want them to see the results of positive habits.
So now that you’ve read this article, are you exhibiting good or poor financial habits to
your children? Remember, your influence over your kid’s future choices is considerable.
They will most likely act as they have been shown, so make sure you’re showing them
the right way to do things.
4 TIPS FOR BUILDING
BENEFICIAL FINANCIAL HABITS
by
Chuck Meriwether
Follow Us:
Building new financial habits that will actually make a difference in your life
isn’t easy. But these tips will guide you along the path to improvement.
One of the tenets of effective
life change is prioritizing.
Time, money, and energy are
resources that are limited
to us all. In order to have
the biggest impact on your money, you
need to focus your time and energy
on creating effective financial habits.
Think of it as a form of personal
development, or self-improvement.
Not only will re-focusing your time and
energy allow you to create better habits
financially, you’ll notice improvement
in other areas of your life as well. You’ll
wake up feeling like a better person.
Here are some questions to ask regarding
where you should start your focus. From
where you can make the biggest impactful
change to putting the habits in place, you’ll
find these tips to be highly useful.
Even from an early age, your children can greatly benefit from being taught early lessons relating to
money management.
1
YOUR BIGGEST
FINANCIAL CHALLENGE
What keeps you up late at night as far
as your finances? In your financial life,
where do you feel the most pain? It could
be lack of savings or emergency fund, or
not enough income every month. It could
even be a poor future for retirement.
Addressing the single biggest stress in
your life financially can be the best place
to begin.
2
THE BIGGEST IMPACT
Considering impact, which new habit
will bring about the most change? Many
people are aware of the need to work on
their savings, but it doesn’t underline the
adoption of the habit. Think about how
any new habit will affect your life. Start by
making a list of potential habits related to
your finances that you can start building.
Your list should be prioritized by most
likely outcome and ditch the bottom 80%.
104
August 2017

Taking a look at what remains, think about
the impact of these possibilities both short
term and long term. You definitely should
ask yourself how the habit will affect things
25 years down the road. Now choose the
most sensible habit. If it’s a tough decision
between two, pick the one that would be
easier to implement. You can always pick
up the other habits at a different time:
that’s the power of momentum.
3
SEEK TO BE AVERAGE
The worst aspects of your finances
are what is the cause of your stress. So
before you go off trying to be an over
achiever, make sure your finances are
at an average level across the board.
Eliminate consumer debt, save 10% of
your income at least, have an emergency
fund and adequate insurance, and put
saving for retirement before that vacation
home or swimming pool. If the habit you
chose to implement doesn’t address
any fundamental finance issue, consider
whether or not it’s in your best interest.
Overall, on a 1 to 10 scale you want each
financial area brought up to a 5 before
moving on.
4
PUTTING THE HABITS IN PLACE
You need to ask yourself whether you have what it takes to put the habit in place. If you
don’t have everything you need, consider whether you can start small. Imagine if the habit
was to run 10 miles a day. If you’re a couch potato and 75 pounds overweight, you definitely
would have to start small. Some financial habits need a significant level of knowledge or
may be out of your reach in terms of the starting point. With your current resources and
level of expertise, determine the habit’s possibility. Another goal may be better for you.
There are only so many hours in a day, and only so many that can be applied to building
a good financial habit. Time is a limiting factor for all of us, so make sure you’re using
it wisely and efficaciously. Sometimes, the best habits to make aren’t very appealing.
Enhance your finances, and focus on the positive habits.
17 MUST-KNOW
TIPS FOR A COLLEGE
FRESHMAN
by David
Baker
Follow Us:
At some point or another, all of us who went to college were feeling a bit lost.
In preparation for your freshman year, here are 17 tips.
Going to college for the
first time can be a scary
time for anyone. Chances
are, it’ll be quite different
from the schooling
you’ve been used to. There will be
a lot more things for you to handle
on your own, that you didn’t have
to worry about before. And many of
these things, if not taken care of, can
negatively affect your performance.
You may not think it now, but your
sanity will be something held very dear
in college. Having peace of mind will
allow you to really enjoy what ends up
being a crazy fast four years. You’ll see
what I mean soon enough, but here
are some tips to help you get started.
These tips are absolutely imperative for
any college freshman. From applying
to financial aid early and making sure
you know how you’re going to handle
acquiring toiletries, everything on this
list is important. Trust me: it will pay off
hugely and you’ll know it before even
making it to hindsight.
August 2017 109

With these 14 awesome tips, you’ll be well on your way to having success with social media in your business’s
marketing campaign.

1
APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID ASAP
You should apply for loans and grants
as soon as you can. The more time you
devote to securing funding for college, the
less money you will need to borrow. Develop
an organized approach to all the different
financial resources you want to tap.
2
THE RIGHT SCHOOL FOR YOU
It’s crucial that you select a school
you believe is right for you. Find a way
to finance your education once you have
selected a school. Don’t let financing
concerns keep you from getting everything
you can from college. There are many
different ways to get the money for
college, so choose one that suits you.
3
PICK INTERESTING CLASSES
Pick some classes that appeal to your
interests and not just ones that are an easy
way to make a good grade. Branching out
this way can lead you to paths you might
not have considered before. You’ll gain a
lot more out of a harder class and they are
often more beneficial for your future.
4
START BEGINNING CLASSES IN MAJORS
If you don’t know which of a few majors
you want to go with, start each of the beginning
classes in those majors. You will get a feel for
each major and be better able to determine
which is right for you. This strategy will also
help you to earn enough concentrated credits
to claim a minor when you graduate.
110
August 2017

5
ORGANIZE ESSENTIAL MATERIALS
Organize all of the essential
materials for college before you begin. It
makes more sense to arrive well-equipped
rather than having to ask Mom and Dad
for items each week. This is particularly
true if you’re far away from them.
6
BRING TOILETRY ITEMS
When you attend college, be sure to
bring plenty of toiletry items. These are
important. You don’t want to move into
your dorm and then find you don’t have
any toilet paper! Shop around for good
deals by buying in bulk from outlet stores
when possible.
7
SET REALISTIC GOALS
Make sure you’re not setting goals
that aren’t realistic for you. If mornings
are not your best time of day, starting a
day with an early challenging class is just
begging for trouble. Working around your
own bodies schedule can help you to
ultimately succeed.
8
EAT HEALTHY FOODS
Remember that you have to eat
healthy foods. Have you ever heard of “The
Freshman 15”? Well, it’s no joke. Follow a
healthy, well-rounded diet plan. Stay away
from processed foods and fast foods. Not
only is it expensive, those extra pounds
can be hard to lose.
9
TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF
You’re not home with someone that
will clean or cook for you. It’s important
that you monitor what you eat, keep
your place clean, and get enough sleep.
Set your schedule based on your classes,
and include time for studying and having
fun also. A stressful lifestyle and poor
nutrition can lead to illness.
August 2017 111

STUDY WHERE YOU CAN FOCUS
Only study where you can really
focus on the materials. Your dorm room
is rarely a great place to study. Find a
place to study that is quiet. Study areas
in the libraries exist for this very reason.
When you cannot find a suitable place
to study, you can also use special noisecancelling
headphones.
TIME TO WORK HARDER
Don’t rely on your high school
reputation. College gives you a clean slate
as you leave your high school days behind.
The harder you work, the more successful
you’ll be.
REVISE YOUR PAPERS
Don’t simply turn in the first
draft of your paper. Give yourself the
time needed to revise it. Create another
draft of your paper rather than only
proofreading it. You should edit the
second paper and then make changes. By
doing so, you can be sure that everything
of importance is in your paper.
DON’T TAKE HARD CLASSES TOGETHER
Don’t take too many hard classes at one time. If you do, you’ll get lower grades.
Try scheduling three easier classes along with a couple of hard ones.
FIND A JOB IN THE CAREER OFFICE
Go to the career office of your college if you want a job. You should be able to
find jobs on campus and get some help with finding a good job once you graduate. The
opportunities are there if you look for them.
112
August 2017

TRY PLAYING A SPORT
Are you interested in playing sports while in college? Speak to your coach at
the college. They will never know unless you tell them. You may even end up with an
unexpected athletic scholarship.
WAIT ON STUDENT GOVERNMENT
While it may be tempting to join a student government group early on, wait until
your second year. You will get more respect once you have been in school for a year.
You can also use that year to come up with your angle or know which positions would fit
you well (or just be easy to win).
YOU CAN GO ABROAD WITH KIDS
It is possible to go abroad with
kids! Most students with children think
that study abroad programs are out of the
question. Have a conversation with the
study abroad coordinator of your school.
While some programs would be tough
to complete with children in tow, others
are indeed able to accept entire families.
Yes, college is challenging, but the best
things always are. Don’t let this deter you
from taking the next step and enrolling in
courses. Utilize the tips provided to you
above, as well as advice from your family
and friends. Although it takes hard work
and dedication, remaining committed and
getting through to graduation is definitely
worth doing.
