Angels (Christopher Roberts)

The basic premise of this book is to consider the function of angels in the life of Christians today; based specifically on what is written in the bible. We will start this book be considering the interaction that can take place between angels and the life of a believer. We shall also consider how common this interaction was in both the Old and New Testaments. Genuine angels are often sent to assist Christians in their daily lives; they never contradict God s word. However, we will also consider how important it is to ask God to open our eyes so that we can see the interaction that exists between angels and human beings. One specific chapter will be used to consider how God can speak to us through our dreams; including how angels may instruct us too. Here we will evaluate the difference between a genuine dream that comes from God and that which comes from our own imaginations. There is a fascinating chapter on the visions of the living creatures that God s prophet witnessed in Ezekiel Chapter 1. In this chapter we shall evaluate what each of these four faces of the living creatures might represent and how they might relate to to our individual lives today. In the next chapter of this book we shall consider the fact that angels are not permitted to contradict God s will for our lives; as can be observed in 1 Kings Chapter 13. Here we will discuss how important it is not to listen to the wrong people; those who may provide advice contrary to the will of God for our lives. In the next chapter of this book we will turn our attention to the work and consistency of angels between the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. Specifically we will consider the work of angels in the life of Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist, and the lessons we can learn from his encounter. Then we shall consider the role of angels in the gospel message; and how God can rescue those who preach God s word during times of difficulty. We will specifically consider how God used an angel to rescue the apostle Peter, in the penultimate chapter of this book, and how prayer is the key to sending angels on assignment (Acts 12:5). In the final chapter of this book we shall depart from the role of angels in the life of Christians, and consider the activity of the twenty four elders in the Book of Revelation. Specifically we will examine how the role and structure of these elders can be used as a model for the rest of the church down here on earth.
