Claudia Black returns to reprise her popular recurring role as the sassy Vala Mal Doran, a
scheming, self centered con artist who has none the less earned the cautious respect of the
SG-1 team.
Black rejoins former co-star Ben Browder, having appeared as Officer Aeryn Sun, a
Sebacean peacekeeper, in the acclaimed sci fi series "Farscape" and "Farscape:The
Peacekeeper Wars" for which she garnered a Saturn Award for Best Actress.
She previously starred as Pandora in the Anne Rice feature film "Queen of the Damned,"
alongside Aaliyah and Stuart Townsend and in USA Films sci-fi sleeper hit "Pitch
Black," opposite Vin Diesel. Born in Sydney, New South Wales, Black has appeared in
many of Australia’s most popular TV series and movies. Australian audiences will
remember her portrayal of the hermaphrodite Jill Mayhew in "Good Guys Bad Guys,"
and the leading role of Angela Kostapas in "City Life." She also appeared in the series
"G.P.," "Police Rescue," "A Country Practice," "Water Rats" and "Seven Deadly Sins," in
addition to several guest-starring roles on "Hercules" and "Beastmaster." She has also
been performing voice over work for video game, animation and narration projects.
She was a finalist in the 1990 Globe Shakespeare competition; nominated for her first
Saturn Award in 2001; voted 'Best Actress" by TV Zone Magazine and Scifi.ign;
received the SFX Magazine Award for Sexiest Actress on Television; and was one of
Entertainment Weekly's 2002 "IT" girls. Black's theatre credits include Portia in the
European tour of "The Merchant of Venice;" Jo March in "Little Women," and "The
World Knot" for the Bicentennial Opera; and "Spotlight on Women," "Portrait
of Dorian Gray," "Loose Ends," and "Pick Ups" for the Belvoir Street Theatre, one of the
most prestigious theatre companies in Sydney.
