It’s been a busy spring and summer
for the Texas and Southwestern Cattle
Raisers Association. In April, more than
2000 ranchers from across the state
gathered in Fort Worth for the 135th
annual TSCRA Convention weekend.
Highlights included the TSCRA School
for Successful Ranching, the TSCRA
Trade Show and committee breakout
sessions.
More than 600 ranchers attended
eight TSCRA Ranch Gatherings held
across the state. Attendees enjoyed beef dinners, catching up with
old friends, making new friends and listening to speakers talk about
everything from cattle theft prevention to state and federal legislative
and regulatory issues. On the education front, TSCRA put on multiple
Beef Quality Assurance trainings, range and pasture field days, and
hosted a few Ranching 101 seminars at TSCRA headquarters in Fort
Worth. Monthly cattleman’s luncheons were also hosted in Dilley and
Wichita Falls.
In June, TSCRA members gathered in Fredericksburg for the summer
board meeting. At the meeting Senator Troy Fraser, chairman of the
Texas Senate Natural Resources Committee, discussed groundwater
policy, and what to expect during the next legislative session. Season
Solorio, director of issues management with the National Cattlemen’s
Beef Association, spoke about social media strategies for ranchers and
the beef industry. Members attended a wide variety of educational
sessions, hosted by the TSCRA committees. The sessions covered topics
including the state animal disease traceability proposal, upcoming water
issues, and state and federal regulations and policies.
