<strong>Marion</strong> E<strong>in</strong>beck, the author, has just published a book devoted<br />

to thirty-five French chefs with Assoul<strong>in</strong>e Publishers <strong>in</strong> France,<br />

entitled Notebook on Tables. Her talent as a writer bestows a<br />

great deal of life and emotion on these accounts.<br />

This tourist supplement is a literary work and thereby is placed<br />

on the fr<strong>in</strong>ge of other tourist publications that frequently resemble<br />

one another <strong>in</strong> their descriptions. It is a k<strong>in</strong>d of travel journal<br />

<strong>in</strong> which the stories, written with artfulness and sensitivity,<br />

are a visual, olfactory, tactile, and gustatory testimony as well<br />

as an effective account.<br />

For five months, <strong>Marion</strong> E<strong>in</strong>beck and her husband traveled<br />

more than 20,000 km by car. The author collected more than<br />

300 pages of notes <strong>in</strong> her travel journal and on these she based<br />

her stories about the restaurants, hotels, craftsmen, and places<br />

visited. The it<strong>in</strong>erary led from one place<br />

to another.<br />

Thanks to the support of and participation <strong>in</strong> this present issue<br />

by the Swatch Company—one of the great manufacturers of<br />

watches and certa<strong>in</strong>ly the most <strong>in</strong>novative one—dozens of establishments<br />

give Swatch time by <strong>in</strong>troduc<strong>in</strong>g a few new models, <strong>in</strong><br />

concordance with the arrival of the author <strong>in</strong> each of the places.<br />

Early <strong>in</strong> 2006 and <strong>in</strong> view of the wealth and number of gathered<br />

<strong>in</strong>formation, the <strong>Journey</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Germany</strong> will have its first collection<br />

of stories enlarged and completed. There will be new<br />

pages dedicated to restaurants and hotels that the author will<br />

have experienced, unpublished recipes, and articles by figures<br />

Nörten-Hardenberg; the Pflaums Posthotel Pegnitz <strong>in</strong> Peignitz;<br />

the Bayrisches Haus <strong>in</strong> Potsdam; the Romantik Hotel Am Brühl<br />

<strong>in</strong> Quedl<strong>in</strong>burg; the Gutshaus Stolpe <strong>in</strong> Stolpe Bei Anklam; the<br />

Benen-Dicken-Hof <strong>in</strong> Sylt; the Orteil Archsu; the Hotel Burg<br />

Wernberg <strong>in</strong> Wernberg-Köblitz; the Nassauer Hof <strong>in</strong> Wiesbaden.<br />

This complete edition will be l<strong>in</strong>ked to the issue devoted<br />

to four different German writers.<br />

As we wait for the new complete publication on <strong>Germany</strong> to<br />
