I t ’s a
Match!
At the end of Holtwood
court resides a beautiful
growing family with a bouncing baby boy.
Bailey the two years old son of Nicolle
and Mike is fi lled with energy. Nicole
Boudreau and Michael Rhodenizer.
are also super charged with excitement.
Their life has had nothing short of
excitement for the past fi ve years. Both
Mike and Nicolle felt that they were at a
place in their life fi ve years ago where
they both knew there was something
missing. In fact, its not that there was
something missing but one could argue
it was steering them in the face all along.
In most of the fairy tales the prince goes
in search of a princess in some far away
land or kingdom. In this Story, both individuals
are from the same community.
They grew up in the same streets went
to the same schools enjoyed the same
things and yes in the same time periods
however they kept crossing path yet never
made eye contact. Grown in the community
of Cole harbour Mike is an alumnus of both
the Auburn High School and Saint Mary’s
University. Not only did both Mike and Nicolle
attend Auburn High School together but they
also went to the same University together.
Picture both individuals walking down the
exact same streets but only on parallel sides.
It pasting the same land marks, enjoying
It was at the end of the road
when both needed to turn
around that they realized that
they were on the same path.
very similar views but just able to connect
with each other. What makes the difference
however, is where the road ends. It was at
the end of the road when both needed to
turn around that they realized that they were
on the same path. In the words of Nicolle,
“I was at a very bad place in my life. I had
just come out of a very bad relationship. I
was hurting so badly because of that relationship
that I knew I needed to do something...”
she continued, “I went online to a
dating site one night and
this guy messaged me.”
With laughter in her eyes
Nicolle exclaimed, “I knew
from our first conversation
he was the one.” Mike
chimed into the laughter
as this night of over Four
years ago was about to
be relived. “I was online
and I got this notifi cation
I looked on and noticed
that it says she was a
match.” As both Mike and
Nicolle radiate with joy
remembering the beautiful
period when they both got
together, Mike in a mimicking
manner says “Hi…” and both burst
into laughter as Mike explained: the very
fi rst thing she said without even an introduction
was “HI” with a giggle. “That made
my evening!” said Mike. It was as though of
all the “fi sh” in the sea, Nemo was found.
SEPTEMBER 2017 5
Imagine being single and meeting someone
who shares your past and your passion. Not
only did Mike and Nicolle share same community,
but they shared the same circle of friends.
As a matter of fact, Nicolle was close friends
with the brother of Mike; they were class mates.
This union has so far produced the ever handsome
and jovial Bailey. The couple plans to
have more children in the very near future
and are super excited about the growth of
the relationship they share over these years
so far. When asked what they loved the most
about Russell Lake, like most all other residence,
they are in love with the sense of
community that is shared. The get-togethers
the cordial greetings and the warm smiles
makes this community one to be desired. The
couple are in love with the neighbourhood so
much that Mike has managed to convince his
parents Mary and Gary to sell their house and
move in next door. Nicolle is still selling her
parent the grand idea. The bond of family and
friends in this great community shouts aloud
the joy of a united neighbourhood. Mike and
Nicolle are excited to bring a new child into
the family and by extension the community.
It is the plan that very soon Bailey will not
be bouncing around alone. - Dwayne Green

BACK TO SCHOOL FITNESS TIPS FOR SUCCESS!
Well, that was fun! With
the hectic summer winding
down, and kids going back
to school, it is the perfect time to
solidify an exercise and nutrition routine
before the holidays are in full swing.
Be sure to follow these 5 tips to get into
perfect post summer, and pre holiday shape!
PLAN AHEAD! You are important! It
is very easy to forget about ourselves,
and skip our workout routine if we do not
schedule these workouts as appointments.
Get your calendar, find the most suitable
workout time for you, and write it into your
calendar in pen (this cannot be erased).
Once you have completed your workout
give yourself a big green check mark! The
appointments we make with ourselves are
of the most importance.
SEPTEMBER 2017 7
USE FAST, EFFECTIVE WORKOUTS - An effective
workout can be done in 30 minutes or less! Be sure to get the most
out of your workout by using Circuit Training methods, Tabata’s,
or Interval routines. This will ensure you are receiving optimal fat
loss, and fi ring up your muscle fi bre receptors for overall toning. If
you are unsure where to look, contact us at Balance Fitness and
we will be sure to customize the perfect total body transformation
program for you.
MEAL PREP Packing a lunch isn’t just for the kids! Set
aside 5 minutes at the end of your evening, and have the family
pack their lunches together. This is a great way to get the kids
involved, and grow their responsibility, as well as ensuring
you all have a proper day of nutrition lined up. It is very easy
to stop in the drive-through on the way to work, or at lunch
hour, but that is a sure fi re way to add processed and unnecessary
calories to your day. Instead pack fresh fruits and vegetables,
whole grain tuna or turkey wraps, and greek yogurts.
WEAR A PEDOMETER Most experts recommend getting 10
000 steps in each day. Wearing a pedometer is a great way to make
sure you are set up to reach that goal. Try taking the stairs instead
of the elevator, parking further then your regular parking spot, or
get up and take a walk around the offi ce every hour. These small
changes will add up, and help you burn extra calories.
GET THE KIDS INVOLVED At the end of a long day, it is
normal to want to relax. However; sitting in front of the TV or video
game console with your kids is an unhealthy habit that adds no
value to either of your day. Instead, take the dog for a walk, go
outside and play catch, go to the playground, or go for a bike ride.
Whatever activity you choose, ensure that it is active. This will not
only develop your child’s motor skills, it will also give you a vitamin
D boost, and put a smile on everyone’s face as you spend quality
time together.

BANKRUPTCY
Hope all our
Canada were up 8.6% compared to the
Back to school
time brings with
it many feelings:
excitement,
nervousness, and
anticipation at
the year ahead.
For parents who are separated or
divorced, however, questions surrounding
time with the kids, extra-curricular
activities and finances can lead to
additional stress.
The following suggestions may be useful
for parents trying to keep the peace at
this or any time of year:
A. Talk early and talk often.
Discuss with the other parent what the
priorities are, always with the children’s
best interests in mind. Parents who put
their children’s needs ahead of their own
generally fare better in the long run.
B. Be clear on what the
responsibilities are. Will you and
your ex equally care for the kids, or will
one have more time than the other?
Furthermore, who will pay for what?
A ‘Separation Agreement,’ which is a
contract about the termination of your
marriage, can sometimes take a while to
complete. One option may be to create a
SEPTEMBER 2017 11
short-term ‘Parenting Agreement’ that is
strictly related to the children, until your
divorce is finalized.
C. Ensure that child support
is paid properly and on time.
Normally, the person who has the
children the majority of the time is
entitled to child support to help with
essentials such as food, clothing and
shelter. However, factors such as equal
or split time with the kids can affect
this question. Other expenses such as
childcare or school-related fees may also
be considered above and beyond child
support, depending on both parents’
circumstances, income levels, as well as
the needs of the children.
Figuring out what is best for you and
your family can be hard enough during
the good times, let alone following a
separation or divorce. Parents may be
well advised to seek the assistance of a
family law lawyer, mediator, or counsellor,
depending on the particular situation.
12 United Neighbours of Dartmouth
Dartmouth knows
“Age-friendly”
doesn’t mean “Seniors-only”
Turns out, the local home
hardware shop holds a good
chunk of generational wisdom.
Speak with elders in the Garden Centre,
they’ll show how to make a hundred
tomatoes from a single seed. They’ll
identify rare plants from pictures in your
smartphone. They understand the land.
I’m glad these places exist. I don’t know
where else I would access long-kept
wisdom.
The internet is great if you know how to
use it. But, an air of “attempt at your own
risk” permeates the arena. The internet
is identifying wild mushrooms from a
field guide you found. Intergenerational
wisdom is having a guide show you the
minute differences between a poisonous
and a delicious mushroom.
Many groups acknowledge the
socioeconomic benefits of relinking our
youth and elders. New Glasgow and
Pictou County have both developed an
Age Friendly Community Plan. Right
here in Dartmouth, The Village on Main,
representing the Tacoma/Main Street area,
has developed their own Age Friendly
Community Plan!
A powerful example of what reconnection
can do happens at Humanitas, a nursing
home in Deventer, Netherlands. They
combat isolation of their live-in elders by
offering students a free room if they agree
to spend 30 hours a month with any of the
160 residents.
“Age-friendly” can mean a lot of
things. At its core the term describes a
community effort to facilitate inclusion
of folks of all ages to actively participate
in community activities. It helps older
people stay active and included. It gives
youth educational opportunities and role
models to look up to. Further, and more
metaphysically, it reattaches that bond of
our existence: the Circle of Life.
