Downtown To-Do
Many downtowns are not as lively as
Downtown Clayton, where art and
events are scheduled throughout
the year. If you take a walk through
downtown at most any given time, you
will find public spaces that make the
perfect sites for what we have going
on around town.
Take Horne Square in the center of downtown. Located
at the corners of Main and South Lombard Streets,
this public space plays host to the Clayton Farm &
Community Market and other downtown events
throughout the year. In addition to the events, Horne
Square is home to three of the sculptures featured in
the Downtown Sculpture Trail that changes annually.
Town Square is located at the corners of Main and
South Fayetteville Streets. This public space features
two sculptures from the Downtown Sculpture Trail. Town
Square is also a popular place to be for the Clayton
Town Square Concert Series, Zaxby’s Movie Nights,
Mondo Roots Festival and the Clayton Shindig.
From wine on one end of Main to craft beer at the other,
and a cocktail bar that’s gaining in popularity, Clayton’s
nightlife is thriving. Local restaurants and clubs are
drawing people into town after dark like never before.
There is even a Last Friday event that features stops at
local establishments from one end of town to the other.
The Clayton Downtown Development Association
sponsors free public events in downtown annually. The
Town Square Summer Concert Series is presented once
a month from May through September. The group also
sponsors family movie nights on Town Square several
times a year and the Clayton Christmas Village and Tree
Lighting each holiday season.
The Clayton Chamber of Commerce invests in
downtown Clayton and hosts the annual Clayton
Harvest and Music Festival — five days of fun featuring
music, vendors, food, rides, performances and so much
more for the entire family. This major event draws nearly
20,000 people to Downtown Clayton.
New to the festival this year was a Community Faith
Night, Latin American Appreciation Day and Clayton’s
Next Big Thing! talent competition.
Town Square is also home to the Town of Clayton
Christmas Village & Tree Lighting that officially kicks
off the downtown holiday season and the annual
Halloween festivities sponsored by the Parks and
Recreation Department.
Eat, Drink
and Shop
Over the past 15 years, businesses on
Main Street in downtown have come
and gone. Today, Main Street and the
surrounding business district is thriving
with shops, restaurants and activities that make it a great
place to explore.
