Dear Readers…. FROM THE PRINCIPAL 2017 will be significant to our school history as it marks the 50th year since foundation. There will be so much to celebrate, and it will be an opportunity for our school community to remember, reminisce and be proud of our accomplishments and achievements. In its history, JOHN XXIII SCHOOL, AGASHI has provided the students with opportunities, educational resources, and programs to grow in faith, to learn and achieve academically, to develop talents and skills in extracurricular activities and to serve the community. Over the years the school has been always committed to providing the present and future students with the very best in educational instruction, facilities, equipment and programs. I appreciate the efforts taken by the editorial team in presenting the E – Magazine on the occasion of the Gold jubilee of the school. The History of the Foundation of John XXIII School “The Journey of our past has led us to the present and will educate us for the future”. I, Sr. Sheetal Gonsalves, indeed feel privileged to be the Principal of John XXIII School. On this momentous occasion of <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>Jubilee</strong> year, I would like to share the journey of past 50 years of our school. In the year 1962, the mission work upheld by Fr. Antonius Maria Bodewig, the Founding Father of 'The Missionary Sisters of the Queen of Apostles' under the banner of Immaculate Society, started with the Nursery classes having thirty-six students on roll, under the supervision of our former Superior General Late Mother Antonia, who was a great follower of Pope John, the XXlll, a Patron soul [1881- 1963]. Pope John XXlll, had a desire to serve the Lord, the Catholics and the Non- Catholics. He decided to become a priest and joined the Pontifical Roman Seminary. He was ordained as a priest on 10th August, 1904 and in 1919, was designated as a spiritual Director of the seminary and on 4th November 1958 He was crowned wearing the 1877 Palatine Tiara for His services as a social reformer for the weaker sections of the society and His contribution for ecumenical and liturgical movements. His thoughts for education were “Just as food is necessary to the life of the body, so good reading is necessary to the life of the soul” His literary work through many books proved to be a motivation in the field of education. After His passing away on 3rd June, 1963 at the age of 81, in Rome, Mother Hemma, the then Superior of St. Teresa Convent, Agashi suggested that the school be named after Pope John, the XXlll. Blessed John XXlll was canonized and recognized as a Saint on 27th April, 2014, at St. Peter's square, Vatican city, in Rome. Page 7 Celebrating 50 Glorious Years
