EVERY SUNSET BRINGS THE PROMISE
OF A NEW DAWN
Springtide is upon us and nature emerges from a deep
hibernation; trees awaken and paint the world with a
bright and refreshing green, flowers start blossoming
and reach for sunlight, and everything around us grows
and flourishes, no matter how small. It’s the details,
these little wonders of nature, that we often overlook
during our daily, busy lives.
Urban Nature Culture wants to celebrate that spring
breeze of change and welcome every ray of sunshine. A
lot of our designs are inspired by nature, our amazing
Mother Earth that has so much beauty in her. In our
quest to share what we love most, we found the colorful
sunset, sand figures after a tidal wave and the warm
blue and green tones of the deep sea, that we’ve translated
to beautiful products, prints and dessins all
throughout our collection. On top of that, we’ve drawn
inspiration from our travels through incredible Africa,
falling for its many intricate prints. Once again, Urban
Nature Culture found ‘no sameness, but togetherness’.
Portugal, with its magnificent nature and mind-blowing
sunsets, has been a massive source of inspiration to
us. We feel at home there, where growing your own
vegetables, intensely enjoying the little things and embracing
nature are all part of everyday life, for many
generations. No one made it up, it doesn’t follow a
trend, it’s simply the way it is. Many pieces of our UNC
collection are produced there, and it always brings a
smile on our face seeing the result.
This time, we see flax, corn, lemon wood, banana leaf
and coconut, all versatile and multi-functional products
of nature. These don’t only offer us food, but also
provide a source of material for clothing, heating and
decorating. It seems though, we’ve gotten used to it,
while really we should be thankful that nature provides
us all that. Nature is unconditional and yet we take it all
for granted. Luckily, realization that without nature we
wouldn’t have life on earth, is quickly spreading. Awareness
of our dependence on nature is growing.
On our quest for beautiful, new products for our collection,
we kept our focus on what nature can offer us.
The waste of overblown crop, after a hot summer; the
leaves of corn that we transformed into stunning baskets.
The leaves of banana plants, creating unique
products. Coconuts that we’ve filled with a natural soy
wax, so we enjoy the coconut in a brand new way.
It’s been an amazing search for us all. We feel completely
in our element when we find materials that have
unconditional and multiple uses. It tells us it’s possible
after all. To be one with nature and one with each other.
We’ve created this collection with some of most talented
and inventive minds, people who loved collaborating
with us; from local, female communities in India
and the lemon wood craftsmen in Morocco to Amsterdam
designers, close to home. The world might be a
big place, but the sun sets and rises for all of us.
We couldn’t be more proud.
