Greasy Heel
EQUITANA 2011
Within 4 days of applying topical cortisone cream to the by now extremely
painful and swollen limb, the condition began to decline at almost the same
rate as it had expanded, and within 2 weeks had all but disappeared. Other
factors to be considered in the treatment of the condition are -
DO NOT scrub it or attempt to remove the scabs. Leave them alone and in
place.
Keep the area as moisture-free as possible.
DO NOT bandage the area; allow it to dry out and apply nothing apart from
the topical cortisone.
An interesting and anecdotal observation I learned from this condition, is the
fact it re-presents around the same month each year. (with my observed horse
it is in March). This is despite the horse now living in a completely different
paddock on a different property, which would almost certainly eliminate any
chance of it being an annual weed or similar.
