The 6th Annual Beauty of the Spirit Luncheon takes place at Queen of the
Rosary Motherhouse on Friday, June 15, 2007. The event continues to grow in
popularity and sells out early. Proceeds from the luncheon will be used to purchase
a van equipped to transport our wheelchair bound retired Sisters living at the
Motherhouse.
Built in 1876, Rosary Hall
still serves the Sisters today.
Historic Recognition
The New York State Board for Historic Preservation
recently voted to place Queen of the Rosary Motherhouse
on the New York State Register of Historic Places. In
1853, four Sisters of St. Dominic arrived in Williamsburg,
Brooklyn from Regensburg, Germany. The growing
Congregation came to Amityville in 1876. Rosary Hall
and St. Dominic’s Chapel are two of the five buildings
on the grounds that date from that period. The Gothic
Revival structures were designed by New York City
architect William Schickel.
Historic status can reap benefits such as matching
state grants and federal historic rehabilitation tax credits.
Summer 2007
As prophetic witnesses in collaboration with others…
we will be responsible members of the universe,
we will promote the dignity of marginalized persons…
Excerpt from the Vision Statement
of the Dominican Sisters of Amityville
Mission Statement of the
Development Office
“With the world as our frontier, we are open to the
Spirit working through all creation.”
The ministry of Development embraces the mission
of the Dominican Sisters of Amityville: to search for
truth, preach the Gospel and serve God’s people. We
invite others to share in these efforts by becoming
Partners in Mission. In this way our partners enable
us, through our many ministries, to touch the lives of
the most vulnerable. In addition, these partnerships
make it possible for us to provide for those Sisters
who, by their lives of service, have sustained our
Congregation and its mission.
Philosophy of the
Development Office
We are rich only through what we give,
and poor only through what we refuse …
Anne Swetchin
The activities of the Development Office are designed
to assist the Congregation in fulfilling its commitment
to respond to the needs of the people of God. We
invite others to partner with us and join in our
efforts to preach God’s Word. Our Development
efforts enable the Congregation to be more effective
stewards of its resources. The Development Office
has as its main purpose the building of financial
resources so as to enhance the viability and longevity
of the Mission of the Congregation. The Ministry
of Development is the conduit through which a
relationship is established and nurtured with each
person who invests in the Congregation.
The goals of the Development Office are—
 to assist in planning for a viable future;
 to research the needs of the Congregation and
assist in identifying and soliciting funding sources;
 to coordinate fundraising projects that benefit the
Dominican Sisters of Amityville.
The Ministry of Development focuses on
the belief that—
 everything we have is a gift from God and we are
stewards of all we receive;
 Development is a vehicle that enables us to discern
and respond to the needs of God’s people;
 as responsible stewards we have an obligation to
provide the highest level of trust, confidentiality
and accountability to our donors.
