Some foreign travellers
will require an eTA
The Canadian government now requires
visa-exempt foreign nationals who fly to or
travel through Canada to have an Electronic
Travel Authorization (eTA). Exceptions
include U.S. citizens and travellers who do
have a valid Canadian visa. Visit
www.Canada.ca/eta for more information
(in multiple languages) and an online
application. The cost is modest and most eTA
applications are approved within minutes.
Crossing a Border into the U.S.
All travellers entering the United States by
air, land or sea, including American citizens
returning to the U.S., are required to present
a valid passport or other approved, secure
documents as determined by the Department
of Homeland Security. www.dhs.gov
Children also require a valid passport and
if travelling with just one parent, proof-ofcustody
papers or a notarized letter of
permission from the absent parent is
required. Unaccompanied persons under 18
should bring a notarized letter of permission.
Importation of agricultural products from
Canada into the U.S. is prohibited and
confiscation of these products is strictly
enforced. www.aphis.usda.gov
