Nash named
ICCA All-State!
Freshman Mia Nash became the third
Comet ever to be named to the Illinois
Cheerleading Coaches Association All-
State Team.
Nash is part of the cheer team that
recently qualified for ICCA State.
“Mia is a great all around cheerleader
but particularly excels in tumbling,
jumps and versatility in stunting,” said
cheer coach Kacie Jones. “She is willing
to try anything asked of her so she
is constantly pushing the limits of what
she is capable of.”
Mia is the only freshman on the All-
State team.
Art adding a kiln
OHS recently received the good news that we will
be getting a new addition to the art program ... a kiln.
Art teacher Amanda Nichols is excited about all the
things that the kiln will add to the program.
“I am wanting to do items that can be considered
decorative, like clay characters, animals, sea life, flowers,
etc.” said Nichols. “I am also looking into getting
some glazes that are considered “dinnerware” safe so
that we may make functional items - such as cups,
bowls and plates, etc.”
“I am also considering having the students create a
shoe that could be used as a pen/pencil holder (or candy
dish-depending on the type of shoe created).”
start at 4:30 p.m. in the grade school
cafeteria and will include spaghetti,
bread, dessert and a drink.
They will also provide
to-go containers.
The proceeds will go towards
helping the parent
team and students of OJHS.
The dinner will coincide
with junior high athletic
night at the high school.
Various junior high sport teams
will be recognized that evening.
Preparing for Prom
To parents of potential Prom attendees,
A meeting for junior and seniors was held in the gym
on Thur., Jan.18, to go over some pertinent Prom rules.
1. To attend Prom, a student must meet IHSA scholastic
standing requirements
- passing four classes. (Third
and fourth quarter average)
2. Students will not be allowed
to leave Prom until 11
p.m. No exceptions!
etc. will not be allowed to
purchase a ticket until they are
paid up. This also includes turning in uniforms for a
sport.
We will send home a form in May, but the grades are
the important thing for now.
Girls basketball game
times subject to change
Due to many teams in the area having low numbers
this year, varsity game times may be affected.
Some teams in the area have decided not to play
JV at all this year which means varsity games
would start at 6 p.m.
Other teams have decided to play shorter quarters,
so the varsity games could start a little earlier.
Here is the remaining list of games that there
will be NO JV game and varsity is scheduled to
start at 6 p.m.:
1/22 vs. Chrisman (NO JV)
1/24 at Hoopeston Area (NO JV)
1/25 at Westville (NO JV)
1/29 vs. GRF (NO JV) -- 7 p.m. start
These are subject to change as injuries or illnesses
sometimes happen. We try our best to post
on our Facebook page and Twitter account if there
are any last minute changes.
Preparing for winter
cancellations
Sometime over the next couple of months, we are
sure to get severe winter weather that threatens to cancel
school. You are encouraged to tune in to local radio
and TV newscasts for
updates.
If school is cancelled,
the district
office will send out
phone and email messages
over the School
Messenger system.
We will be using
the numbers and email addresses that you gave us at
registration. If one of those has changed, you will need
to contact OHS, 354-2358, and correct it.
