STRATEGY 3
Invest in Infrastructure
RATIONALE
Many elements of infrastructure are critical to the successful
operation of the Venice Family Clinic. It is important that VFC
grow infrastructure hand in hand with its programs and services.
Infrastructure investment is needed to maintain and update facilities,
communication, and information technology. Some key support
areas, including the human resources department and volunteer
services, need additional resources.
GOALS
• Focus on health information technologies and telecommunications
to improve quality and efficiency of care.
• Improve the training and morale of staff by restructuring the Human
Resource Department.
• Develop and maintain an inclusive and effective system for board,
staff, and volunteer communication and decision making.
• Update existing facilities master plan to reflect program needs
and needs identified in new strategic plan.
• Explore systems of analyzing the cost/benefit of improving
Venice Family Clinic programs and services.
“Architecture is the art that people live in.
At the Clinic’s Simms/Mann Health and Wellness Center,
interior design is an integral part of a
holistic approach to medicine.”
—Russel Tyner, A.I.A, Architect, Member, Board of Directors
RUSSEL TYNER was given a pro bono
assignment by his firm: design a medical
facility at 604 Rose Avenue in Venice.
Sitting on the Clinic’s site committee at the
time was architect Frank Gehry. Russ’s plan
was approved unanimously, sealing his
two-decade relationship with the Clinic.
Four of the Clinic’s seven sites were
either designed or rebuilt by Tyner and
his partner Gary Houston – with millions
of dollars of fees donated. Working with
Mary Richert, the Clinic’s director of
general operations, he is drawing up the
plans to redesign the Rose Avenue site.
