INTO STONE”
Petrified wood is the result of trees that have completely transitioned
to stone by the process of permineralization. This process occurs
underground, when wood becomes buried under sediment or volcanic
ash and is initially preserved due to a lack of oxygen which inhibits aerobic
decomposition. All the organic materials have been replaced with minerals
while retaining the original structure. All pieces are unique and vary in
colour and shape.
