You look at your demon but not in the eye.<br />
You ignore it and hope it goes away;<br />
but the demon is staring at you,<br />
even when you are too afraid<br />
to look at it straight, to face it.<br />
It is mocking you, “Are you gonna stay the same?<br />
Are you bidding time so that I fade away?”<br />
Even if you are lucky and it vanishes with time;<br />
and you do not change, another will be waiting to rise.<br />
Those who resign to be enslaved find slavery in different ways.<br />
One day you will look at the chain strangling your wings<br />
and the chain will disgust you, and when it does,<br />
this here is to help you remember, there was always a dagger in your hand.<br />
