On Thursday. Jan. <strong>18</strong>th, Susan Kotch, a member<br />
of DKG, a society of women educators, gave a<br />
presentation to members about her trip above the<br />
Arctic Circle on the National Geographic Explorer<br />
Ship at the Steak House Restaurant. A former<br />
Vermont National Teachers’ Award designee in<br />
2<strong>01</strong>6 and current 1st grade teacher in Montpelier,<br />
she was chosen from many applicants as a<br />
Grosvenor Teacher Fellow to travel on the Explorer<br />

VT Fish & Wildlife Dept Offers Fly Tying Courses<br />
The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department<br />
is offering a series of introductory courses for<br />
fly fishing anglers interesting in learning how<br />
to tie their own flies. The courses are offered<br />
by the department’s Let’s Go Fishing program<br />
in partnership with the Mad Dog<br />
Chapter of Trout Unlimited and the Green<br />
Mountain Fly Tiers.<br />
These introductory courses will focus on<br />
material, hook, and thread terminology.<br />
Techniques such as thread control, proportion,<br />
tying on materials, dubbing, and wings<br />
and tails will be covered while tying a variety<br />
of flies.<br />
“For many anglers, there’s nothing more<br />
satisfying than catching a fish on a Vermont<br />
stream using a home-tied fly,” said Corey<br />
Hart of the Vermont Fish & Wildlife<br />
Department. “These courses will give anglers<br />
the basic skills they need to start tying their<br />
own flies, as well as the opportunity to meet<br />
other local anglers interested in fly fishing.”<br />
People can register for either course by<br />
calling 802-265-2279 or emailing letsgofishing@vermont.gov.<br />

Vermont Principals’ Association Announces<br />
Hall of Fame Class of 2<strong>01</strong>8<br />
The Vermont Principals’ Association has<br />
announced that 12 student-athletes, coaches,<br />
officials, an administrator and a contributor<br />
have been selected for the VPA Hall of Fame<br />
class of 2<strong>01</strong>8.<br />
The Hall of Fame was organized in 20<strong>01</strong> to<br />
recognize and preserve the heritage of<br />
Vermont high school interscholastic activities,<br />
including sports. Members of the Hall<br />
have distinguished themselves through service,<br />
contributions, and achievement in programs<br />
or activities sponsored by the VPA.<br />
They also must exemplify the highest standards<br />
of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and<br />
character.<br />
The VPA Selection Committee reviews<br />
dozens of nominations that are submitted<br />
from a variety of sources following public<br />
requests for proposed inductees each year.<br />
The induction ceremony for the Class of<br />
2<strong>01</strong>8 will be held Friday, May 4, at the<br />
Capitol Plaza Hotel Plaza and Conference<br />
Center in Montpelier. The ceremony begins<br />
with a 5 p.m. reception and a 6 p.m. banquet.<br />
The induction starts at 6:45 p.m. Banquet<br />
tickets are $45 and a sellout is expected.<br />
