Thanks for inquiring about BHSA. 

Let me begin with a piece of advice: Whatever you do, don’t go back to school! 

Let me come to you instead – with a series of unique learning programs. 

Why unique? The BHSA path is tailored specifically and exclusively to your needs. The first 

lesson is one you teach me. You tell me what you want and what you need, and I will create a program of 

study just for you. From basic literacy to college development, from social etiquette to career enrichment, 

together we will create a program uniquely suited to your needs and goals.

About Us 

The Brooks Home School Academy (BHSA) and The Brooks Tutoring Services 

(BTS) was established in 2005 to provide students from grades 6-12 the 

opportunity to enhance their studies and prepare for college. 

Brooks-qualified Instructors stimulate your young adult in a way that would 

give an edge academically and throughout their lives. 

BHSA and BTS are unique in that there is academic instruction, 

ACT/SAT/PSAT/LSAT/MCAT/GRE/GMAT preparation, Social Graces and 

Summer Fun. 

The Curriculum 

Our goal is to strengthen academic skills through an accelerated program. 

Expert professors will utilize a program for a “higher-order thought” provoking 

questions to augment students’ skills. 

Each specialized curriculum will be specially designed for the student to help 

build self esteem, life-long values and social skills throughout education and 

extracurricular activities. 

Learning trips play a critical role in academic success. Students participate in 

experiential and exploratory trips on an annual basis. These trips include: 

• In-state exploration (understanding history, culture and industry) 

• National experiential (connecting to “top places to know”) 

• International exploration and experiential trips (by invitation only – 

missions, projects and production) 

Extracurricular Activities 

Our goal is for the extracurricular activities to be fun and enjoyable for the 

scholars. The activities will build both networking and interpersonal skills that 

will give each student an edge to succeed for their future.

Education is integrated-it does not begin or end in the classroom. We believe 

that “a healthy child” can learn and education starts in the home. Therefore, we 

educate the whole child and it encompasses the mind, body, heart, and soul.

The Brooks Home School Academy (BHSA) 

The “Accelerated Curriculum” 

Note: The BHSA Student doesn’t have to be on an “advanced level” to 

participate in the “Accelerated Curriculum”. 

Our Mission and Job is to bring the student from any level to the “advanced” 

level without using the words “rigorous” or “busy work”! 

Any student of BHSA who chooses to graduate early will receive a customized 

curriculum to meet the STATE’S standards. 

In order to receive a high school diploma from BHSA, a student must pass the 

ACT standardized test with a minimum score of 21. 

Activities are essential for a child to become a productive and stable citizen. 

Examples of activities include: 

• Social (Interpersonal Development) 

• Expressive (Cultural Contribution) 

• Health and Wellness 

• Travel 

Grading Scale 

100 – 90 = A (Outstanding) 

89 – 80 = B (Above Average) 

79 – 70 = C (Average) 

69 – 60 = D (Below Average) 

59 – 0 = F (Failing)

Tuition Costs will include the following Test Preps 

State’s Standardized Tests / ACT Prep / SAT Prep / PSAT Prep 

Note: Since most Colleges and Universities no longer consider “Weighted” GPA’s, no 

additional points will be added to the final GPA for Honors Classes. 

BHSA does not offer Advanced Placement (“AP”) courses. Through our findings, most 

institutions of higher learning reserve the “right” to accept the credits of the AP 

Courses; therefore, we feel time should not be wasted on the “unknown” factor of given 

course credits. 

However, The Academy STRONGLY supports dual credit “College Credit” with any 

institution willing to accept our students. 

For an additional fee, the Staff at BHSA will offer services to help the family with 

FAFSA support, Scholarship and Grant Support, Letters of Recommendation, College 

Choice Selection, and Admissions for the student. 

For those students wishing to seek a definite path to Medicine, the MCAT practice, 

along with the ACT/SAT practice, will be worked together. College Students are allowed 

to submit an application to Medical Schools after two years of Pre-Med course study 

work during their first two years of college with selected Universities. 

The LSAT practice study course work is available to those students wishing to pursue a 

career in Law. 

The GRE / MCAT study course will be given to those students knowing that College 

Work will be completed early and want to apply for a “Post Graduate” degree. 

For each course of study at BHSA, each student receives a “Course Syllabus”. 

Full-time students: $850 per month 

Tuition 

• Includes all modules, college planning, administration, transcripts, and 

customized curriculum 

• 10-month or 2-semester minimum commitment 

Tutoring: $380 per month 

• Includes one module 

• 3-month minimum commitment

The Brooks Tutoring Services (BTS) 

We offer personally tailored tutoring and lesson plans for the struggling student 

in any course work from grades three through high school. 

We give each student a flexible schedule, along with a tutoring packet. 

The Goals of Tutoring 

• Assist students in becoming independent learners 

• Identify the student’s area of concern 

• Expose students to effective study skill techniques (note taking, study 

strategies and test preparation) 

• Assist students in reaching a higher level of competence in a particular 

subject 

• Assist students in becoming active in the learning process 

• Aid in the development of a positive approach towards learning 

• Provide a supportive and encouraging environment where learning takes 

place at the students’ pace 

The Student’s Responsibilities 

• Check your voice mail, e-mails or text messages regularly for messages from 

your tutor. 

• Attend all scheduled tutoring sessions. 

• Have all academic support materials to each tutoring session(textbook, 

notes, homework, pen/pencil, calculator, etc.). 

• Contact the tutor via phone, email or text message 24 hours in advance to 

cancel or reschedule a lesson.

Texas Home School Rules** 

Send a withdrawal email to the principal, counselor, and attendance clerk of the 

school. 

You can email the letter one day, keep your child home the next day, and begin 

home schooling. 

The Texas Education Code: 

Home Schooled students are exempt from compulsory attendance according 

to Section25.086(a)(1)of the Texas Education Code because home schools 

have been determined by Texas Courts to be private schools for the purpose 

of compulsory attendance.
