There’s still plenty of winter left for
spring at Big Bear’s two tubing areas.
Both Alpine Slide and Big Bear Snow
Play look more like winter than spring
thanks to recent storms, not to mention ski
area-quality snowmaking that has piled the
white stuff. Though the season was late arriving
both areas now have plenty of snow
for Spring Break and beyond.
In fact depths are up to two stories
high—that’s 20 feet or more!—at both
places. Weather permitting Alpine Slide
and Big Bear Snow Play plan to stay open
through Easter and into April, for inner tubing
fun before transitioning to summer recreation
that includes the double water slide
at the former, Big Bear Speedway’s Sodi
Kart racing at the latter.
Alpine Slide and Big Bear Snow Play
will both be open for night sessions, normally
held Fridays, Saturdays and holiday
periods, every evening March 23-31 from
5-9 p.m., maybe even beyond depending
on snow conditions and interest. Plenty of
time to experience tubing under the stars!
Alpine Slide’s night sessions have
been a longtime favorite, lights casting an
eerie glow on the snow, which gets faster
and faster as the evening progresses. “The
snow is sooo fast,” Gabriela Zena said during
her visit. “When you start twisting it’s
especially fun. There is nothing like the
first slide because you don’t know what
the feeling of sliding will be like.”
Big Bear Snow Play offers Glow Tubing,
cranking the experience up a notch by
featuring 11 RGB color strobes to light up
the snow like a Christmas tree, changing
from color to color throughout each sequence.
Even the Magic Carpet uphill lift,
which eliminates the
tiring uphill walk
and is enclosed for
guest comfort, is lit
up with over 1,500
different LED multicolor
fluorescent
lights.

Tubing hills at Alpine Slide and Big
Bear Snow Play are open daily from 10
a.m.-4 p.m. and cost $35, which includes
tube rental and use of the Magic Carpet
uphill lifts. Bring a picnic lunch and guests
can come and go as they choose. Night
sessions at each are $30.

Getting to the top of all the snow is
easy thanks to Magic Carpet uphill lifts
that families merely step on and off of. No
uphill climb to tire parents and kids out
means they save all their energy for downhill
fun and get in all the runs they want.
Snow gets groomed nightly at Big
Bear Snow Play to ensure the best possible
conditions for guests. When it’s time for a
winter warm-up, head inside the heated
base lodge for family-priced snack bar and
video games.
