Sahiyo’s survey did not inquire as to why girls are cut at this<br />
age, but Ghadially suggested that it could be because at age<br />
seven, a girl is considered too young to understand what is<br />
being done to her but still sufficiently mature to continue the<br />
tradition when she has a daughter of her own.<br />
