Malawat Ship Management
In conversation with Mr. Basant Malawat, Managing
Director of Malawat Ship Management Pvt. Ltd. and
Senior Marine Engineer, on his entrepreneurial journey.

What types of ships does
your company operate?
And what are the services
being provided?
With a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from
Jodhpur University, Basant Malawat started from
humble beginnings. In a race to secure a full-time
government job upon graduating university, he
joined the Indian Coast Guard in 1986 as Assistant
Commandant (1986).
With fierce passion and an attitude to never settle,
Basant Malawat explored newer avenues in the Merchant
Navy and has never looked back since. Post a
great track record of sailing experience across various
positions, he left active sea life in mid 2000s and
has served as Crew Manager in V. Ships and Head of
Crewing Operations at Maersk Tankers.
With nearly a decade’s worth of experience under
his belt in managing various fleets of vessels, Basant
Malawat is ready to kickstart his entrepreneurial
journey with hands on experience.

feeling about the privilege of
RPSL being granted to
Malawat Ship Management?
Thank you so much! Everyone at Malawat Ship Management
is genuinely thrilled about the RPSL being
granted to us. We’re aware of the fact that it is a
massive responsibility to take upon. Today because
of RPSL my dreams have been actualized and I can
continue my journey in the shipping industry now as
an employer.

What can the seafarers expect from
your firm? And what do you expect
in return from them?
Coming from a seafaring background myself,
I understand the seafarers we manage have
placed their trust in us and their safety is of utmost
importance. Ensuring that all seafarers
have their wages paid duly on time and that
their health insurances are covered is a priority.
It’s equally important to provide our seafarers
with timely shore leaves and rest time which
will be diligently followed.
What we expect in return is for the seafarers to
provide quality work where they are passionate
about their job and are performance oriented;
not just ticking off tasks from the checklist
without actually doing them.

We are into crew management and operate on Tankers,
RORO, bulk carriers, cargo vessels, container
and offshore supply vessels amongst others where
my sailing experience and expertise lie.
How would you like to distinguish
your company in the shipping
industry?
Considering that all companies out there have the same database
of seafarers and expertise, where we have an edge is that
we provide tailor made solutions for every client. We have the
capacity to provide fully documented officers for every type of
vessels.
