General in Dubai launches<br />
music courses in its language<br />
and cultural centre<br />
Dubai is becoming a great attraction for the<br />
cultural tourists as evidenced by its large<br />
tourism infrastructure. The ballrooms of the<br />
hotels in Dubai feature all sorts of cultural<br />
entertainers starting from the Far East to the<br />
West across entire Asia, Europe, Africa and<br />
American continents. Realising the rising<br />
importance of Dubai as an Asian hub of world<br />
literature and music, the Consulate General<br />
of <strong>Bangladesh</strong> in Dubai established the<br />
<strong>Bangladesh</strong> Language and Cultural Centre in<br />
its premises (in 2013) by launching a course<br />

on Bengali language for the children. Because<br />
of growing demand for diversified cultural<br />
activities, the Consulate General has started<br />
to offer music courses for children and youth<br />
from February <strong>2016</strong>. Both Bengali language<br />
and music courses are conducted every<br />
Saturday from 3:30pm to 6:30pm. The<br />
courses have generated considerable amount<br />
ofenthusiasmamongtheparentsandchildren<br />
of <strong>Bangladesh</strong> community in Dubai and<br />
Northern Emirates. More than 70 children are<br />
enrolled in the courses.<br />
DrShah MohammadTanvirMonsur, Consul<br />
and the Coordinator of <strong>Bangladesh</strong> Language<br />
and Cultural Centre, said, “<strong>Bangladesh</strong> has a<br />
very rich musical heritage since music has<br />
always played an important role in the lives<br />
of the people. Generally speaking, <strong>Bangladesh</strong><br />
music can be categorised into a number of<br />
genres. The main genres are: Classical music,<br />
Rabindra sangeet, Nazrul geeti, folk songs,<br />
and modern music with Western influences.<br />
The music instructors of this centre provide<br />
music lessons on all types of music particularly<br />
Classical, Nazrul and Rabindra.”<br />
He informed that the newly appointed<br />
Consul General of <strong>Bangladesh</strong> to Dubai,<br />
S Bodiruuzzaman, has a special interest in<br />
music, and a long-term vision to establish the<br />
language and cultural centre on a strong<br />
foundation. “The newly extended activities<br />
of the cultural centre will help us to promote<br />
more cultural exchanges between the two<br />
countries,” he added.<br />
