Halls starting their own little clubs and taking
initiative, say running nights or something
and we would support them in terms of
promo and stuff. Also, I’m really interested to
look at the elections because I wanna see
what demographics run and stuff. I know
there’s been a lot of chatter recently about
the SU elections and whatever and I know
that we are going to run a Women in Leadership
campaign soon hopefully, I know Aoife
Grimes wants to. I really want to see people
it up. It’s really interesting but really difficult
because I was thrown into the deep end in a
sense but I really love it and I’ve learned and
gotten better as the year has gone on.
Q: I know you’re a drummer so tell us a bit
about music in your life, are you in a band
etc?
A: I love drumming, and I’ve been drumming
since I was like seven. I started off
drumming in the local church so I was a
in Halls get involved in college so I can look
back and be like oh all the residents are involved
this is great.
Q: What is it like working in such close contact
with the wardens and the assistant wardens?
A: It’s interesting because they treat me like
I’m an adult, so they’d be like you are responsible
for you decisions and the consequences,
y’know? I love that because up until this
point we all went to primary school and then
secondary school and you were treated like a
child. In first year you are learning how to be
an adult and in second year you are still
learning really. This year, for someone to
treat me like an adult sort of threw me into
the deep end, I’m like ‘okay, every decision I
make, I can be held accountable for’. I need
to know my own rational and be able to back
gospel drummer and I’ve been drumming all
the way up and loved it. I got to college last
year and was like well drumming is gonna
come out of my life eventually because I’ll
have nowhere to use it, y’know? Then one of
my friends decided to start a jazz band and I
was one of the original three and then we’ve
grown and grown since then. We are called
Midnight Zoo and we played a load of Balls
last year. We literally just played at the Science
Ball two days ago and we are gonna play
BESS ball. I really really love it and drumming
is like my outlet because it’s really
stressful sometimes being JCR president and
being able to go and let it out on the drums
is great.
Q: You obviously like structure so following
on from that how do balance college work,
music and JCR presidency? Do you find yourself
getting overwhelmed or do you have a
