Night of Fine Arts
In the fall our Art Department was asked to design a flag drop box for the Village
Hall of Oakwood. The Art Club submitted design ideas and the Village Hall chose
the one they thought would best represent their vision. The purpose of the flag drop
box is so that community members may properly dispose of any old flags.
The team that completed the drop box included Chris Figueroa, Katelyn Blankenship,
Hanna Cawley, Annika Giancaspro, Dawn Brown and Ms. Nichols.
The finished piece was presented to the Village Hall at their meeting last month.
The drop box was a success and to show their appreciation the Village Hall donated
$150 to the Art Club. These funds will be used to help fund a scholarship to Summer
Art Camp at Eastern Illinois University.

Figueroa named Comet of Month
Webb honored for leadership; Vinson is top athlete

Month.
Figueroa, a senior, is
active in art club and soccer.
He is visible all over
the school in a wide variety
of activities.
Figueroa is a supporter
of all things Comets and
is known for his school
spirit.

DeVries named April staff member of month
Mr. Wade DeVries was chosen
as the Staff Member of the
Month for April.
DeVries is the OHS Algebra
teacher. He also is the head coach
of boys track and football. This is
DeVries’ second year at OHS.

Dawn Lee. “He is enthusiastic
and supportive of all students

Ford wins OHS’ 2018 Golden Ruler
Mrs. Shannan Ford has
been named the recipient
of the 2018 Golden Ruler
Award for OHS.
Ford will attend the
28th annual Golden Ruler
Banquet on April 24 at
Bismarck-Henning High
School. The dinner will be
prepared by the Bismarck
United Methodist Women’s
Organization.
Ford was selected by
the other staff members
for her dedication to OHS.
She is well-respected by
staff and students and is
considered a positive influence
on the school’s
culture.
“She works hard to balance
the demands of her
job from students, parents,
and staff,” said Mr. Jesse
Johnson. “She is always
willing to help and has a
great personality.”
Juniors take SAT on April 10
The SAT will be given on April
10. Students will be assessed in
reading, writing, and math.
All juniors in the state of Illinois
will be taking the SAT on that date.
The OHS juniors will meet in the
cafeteria at 8 a.m. Attendance will
be taken and donuts will be served
before heading to their testing
rooms at 8:15.

Gary Ludwig Memorial Golf Outing
Dear Generous Supporter:
The Oakwood Men’s Club along with the support of Oakwood Booster Club are hosting the Gary Ludwig Memorial Golf outing.
Gary was one of the original founders of both organizations. Gary was an outstanding gentleman to Oakwood and surrounding
communities. Gary was very passionate about Oakwood athletics and doing whatever he could to help the athletes of Oakwood High
school. All the funds raised will go to the Oakwood Booster Club which supports and provides equipment to the athletic sports and
athletes and the Oakwood Men’s Club which helps support Oakwood Youth in any way they can.
This year’s golf outing will be held on Friday, June 15,2018 at the Harrison Park Golf Course in Danville, IL. It is an 18-hole
scramble with a 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 pm shot-gun start. If golfing in the afternoon flight you must be 21. Donuts will be provided for
morning flight and lunch will be served at noon. All this for $80 per golfer.
To make this outing a fun and successful event, we need your assistance. How can you help? We are looking for hole sponsors, and
