The Senior Pageants Group was
founded in late 2015 to “Honor and
Celebrate the Lives and
Accomplishments of Women over
60.”
The concept was simple – using a
pageantry style format, we tell the
stories and history of these special
women to a public that was
unaware of or had forgotten their
unique contributions.
The outpouring of support was
almost immediate. For most of
2016, we sought the advice of
entrepreneurs, as well as those in
the entertainment and pageantry
worlds. We interviewed more than
200 potential participants before
settling on the original seven
members of the Founding Board of
Governors.

Founding Board of Governors were Carol Thomas,
Kathleen “Kat” Ray, Connie Ross-Karl, Elizabeth
Purtee, Mary McIntosh and Virginia Werner. They
were joined by the Founding Ms. Senior Michigan
Caren Mislinski. They were each dynamic,
accomplished senior women who represented the
North, South, East, West and Central Regions of the
country, along with the U.S. Territories, with the
intent to be as inclusive as possible to all of these
areas and by so doing, encourage participation from
all of the states, regions and territories.

One of the Board’s first
recommendations was to establish
“the Brand.” Intellectual property
and domains were secured. Kat Ray
was selected by a unanimous vote of
both the Founding Board and
Advisory Board to become the
“Founding Queen.” By the end of
2017, Kat had attended over 200
events and posted more than 18,000
photos.

became our first official Sponsor,
and our first Platinum Sponsor!
Along with her husband, Chris
Wolfgram, Di became a recipient of
the Ms. Senior Universe
Community Service Award, Di is a
former educator and administrator
who has been part of the Las Vegas
valley for nearly thirty years. She
has a Bachelor's and Master's
degree from the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln and grew up with
Midwest values and traditions.

MEET AND GREET
The first event was scheduled for a three
day meeting of the Board to create a 5-
Year Business Plan with the idea of a
two-year roll out period for the first
pageant. Instead, 34 senior women, along
with their husbands, significant others
and family members found their way to
Las Vegas. Improvising, the Board
quickly reorganized and co-branded with
the Shriners Hospitals for Children PGA
Tournament, Menopause the Musical
and the City of Las Vegas.

In the months that followed the successful November 2016 Meet and Greet,
three significant events gave the organization its next boost. In January 2017,
author Carl Honoré began a series of interviews for a book entitled “Age
Inappropriate,” a project now entering its second year. Miss Universe Pia
Wurtzback began a Facebook friendship that launched the organization into
the million view range of Social Media. Finally, with a quarterly social media
viewing of over 10,000,000 million people within the United States, Carl Dunn
of Pageantry Magazine officially recognized the Senior Pageants Group.

MS. SENIOR USA 2018
In May 2017, Ms. Senior
USA held its first Pageant
at the Tropicana Hotel.
There were 72 Queens in
attendance and
participants from all 50
states, as well as Puerto
Rico, the U.S. Virgin
Islands and the Capitol.
The highlight of the week
featured an outdoor party
under the lights of the Las
Vegas Strip.

MS. SENIOR UNIVERSE
Following the Las Vegas Shooting, the Board voted to hold the first ever Ms. Senior Universe Pageant. The finals were at
the Planet Hollywood Resort, following the televised Miss Universe and a Queens Ball at the world famous Liberace
Mansion. Donna McGuffie was announced as Ms. Senior Universe 2017-2018. Betty Aden was crowned as the inaugural
Ms. Super Senior Universe for ladies 75 years of age and older. Sherry Strother was announced as the first runner-up and
new International Director. Rounding out the Top 5 were Debbie Miller, Dr. Gayla Jackson from England and Tang Li
Ping from China. Debbie Miler advanced to Ms. Senior USA to fill the vacancy created by Donna McGuffie’s win. Sally
Beth Vick advanced to Ms. Super Senor USA to fill the vacancy created by Betty Aden’s win.

With each month, we sponsor the Queens
to attend special events such as the
International Women’s Day at the
United Nations, the crowning of the first
Ms. Senior United States, the World
Masters Senior Softball Championships
with the Wounded Warriors and the
National Honor Flights.

As the newest member of the "major leagues," Ms. Senior
USA, Ms. Senior United States and Ms. Senior Universe
were the only senior pageants recognized. Queens Kat Ray
and Lauren Monahan were
finalists in four categories.

MISSION STATEMENT
The Senior Pageants Group and the Ms. Senior USA,
Ms. Senior United States (50-59) and Ms. Senior
Universe Pageants honor and celebrate the lives and
accomplishments of women over 60. We encourage
women as they approach 60 to embrace who they are
and to understand that age does not limit what they
can become and what they have to offer the world. We
are the women and daughters of the “The Greatest
Generation.” As Senior Women, we have nurtured our
families, our careers and our local communities while
surviving personal tragedy, economic depressions, regional conflicts and
World Wars. We have been present while the nations of the world went to the
unthinkable brink of Nuclear Holocaust. We are strong, savvy, goal-oriented,
wise and aware. We display these characteristics in our everyday lives, as
people, and as humanitarians who always seek to improve the lives of others.
As an organization, we seek to further empower women of all ages, nations
and cultures to strive for equality, to achieve their personal best, to make real
and meaningful changes and to individually redefine what it means to be a
Senior Woman and role model to the communities of women who will follow.
