speed, low torque – and low speed,
high torque. Also available is the
EMD-20, which has an auto-shift
feature that allows the drive to
automatically select the best drilling
speed and torque.
By selecting the correct drill bit
combined with the down-crowd
force of the excavator, Dawson says
that the EMD will make light work
of demanding conditions. Another
benefit is that, because the EMD is
mounted on an excavator, users can
drill vertical holes anywhere the
machine goes. According to Dawson,
the device is suitable for drilling over
casings, on railway embankments,
under bridges, near power lines, or
anywhere with low-headroom
constraints.
The OEMs are also keen on
equipping their latest models with
impressive attachments capability.
For example, take the latest wheeled
excavators from Volvo Construction
Equipment — the short swing
EWR150E and EWR170E, and the
conventional swing EW220E.
For all three new excavators, the
Attachment Management System
stores flow and pressure settings for
up to 20 different attachments. For
those seeking a boost in productivity,
customers can opt for the factoryfitted
Steelwrist tiltrotator, which
allows for 360° rotation, as well as
45° tilt from the left or right side.
This manoeuvrability reduces the
amount of repositioning time on the
job and allows for precise digging
around utilities. With a two-finger
claw on the back, the Steelwrist is
also suitable for placing pipe.
