Veterans, as we bring this fiscal
year to a close I would like to
thank you all for allowing me to
serve as your State Commander.
We have really made a difference
this past 12 months in the
lives of so many veterans and
their family’s, we have made
many changes in the way we do
business at the department and
district levels.
I hope that it has given all our
members the realization that the
department and district leaders
are here to help you all at the
post levels.
It is the beginning of a new
era, where the state and district
officers are not here to condemn
leadership this past year. It has
been a great experience to serve
with State Commander Hastings
and his “Always on Call” team.
Congratulations to all of our
Posts and Districts that accomplished
their goals over the past
year and for the awards that will
be presented at this convention.
I would like to acknowledge
the important work the staff at
our State Headquarters does
each and every day. Also, State
Service Officer Derek Giffin and
his team work equally as hard,
on a daily basis, for our veterans.

to the Veterans of Foreign Wars

First, let me say it has been
my pleasure to serve as your Junior
Vice Commander this year
and I have enjoyed being a part
of State Commander Jeff Hasting’s
“Always On Call” team.
In just a few short weeks,
delegates from across Illinois
will converge onto Springfield
for our 97th State Convention.
During those few days, we will
celebrate the many successes
of the past year and chart the
course for the next.
It is a great chance for newly
elected Post Commanders and
Quartermasters to meet with the
elected officers that will lead our
organization over the next year.
It is a chance for us to discuss
the possible changes needed to
improve our great organization.
It was my pleasure to travel
this state, north, south, east, and
west to meet veterans throughout
the state. It was fantastic opportunity
to share ideas, discuss
problems, and meet the veterans
that work hard for the Veterans
of Foreign Wars.
A special thank you to the
outstanding headquarters staff
nor reprimand but to help rebuild
and maintain our VFW
Post and membership.
We have accomplished many
things through our legislative
process to include the announcement
in April that $685 million
in funding from Congress to
fund several state Veterans
Home projects to include new
construction projects in Illinois.
We are the strength and voice
for our current and future veterans,
I thank each and everyone
one of you for what you
do for this great organization.
May God bless you and may
God bless the United States of
America.

elected and appointed officers
for the 2018-2019 year. I truly
hope that all the goals that each
of you set for yourselves are
accomplished this year!
I appreciate all the courtesy
and hospitality I received during
my travels this past year,
and I know our Posts and Districts
will continue to be just as
hospitable to me in the future.
I look forward to my upcoming
travels and I know we can
expect another great VFW year
from all of you.
