20 Rumble L O L in the Jungle Four layers in the Rainforest: Emergent Layer - Made up of only the tallest trees, some as high as 70 metres (Roughly 50 grown adults on top of each other!) Main Canopy - Main hangout of the Rainforest! Most of the birds and monkeys call this home as there is lots of food and they are safely away from the bigger animals. Understory - New plants and trees have a hard life down here, they have to fight for sunlight and space in order to grow. Forest Floor - Only 2% of sunlight makes it this far down! There is a big mix of animals down here from big cats and boars down to scorpions and snakes! What do you call an elephant that doesn't matter? ! An irrelephant. Rain f ore sts an d Jun gle s com e in many sha pe s an d sizes all over the world and provides home to a mind-boggling amount of animals; from cute cats and cheeky monkeys down to funky-coloured frogs and teeny tiny creepy crawlies. Jungles and rainforests are really hard to get through, there are so many plants that it can be hard to see where you are going. It is usually very hot as well with temperatures reaching up to 34 C in some parts of the world such as Bolivia o and Brazil. As jungles and rainforest usually cover massive areas (You could fit the whole of Britain into the Amazon rainforest 24 times!) it can be really easy for explorers and scientists to find something that has never been seen before, the last discovery was only made in 2013 which was a small frog. The best thing about discovering something completely new is that you get to name it, the frog discovered in 2013 was named the ‘Thimble Frog’, what would you call your discovery? The Okapi has a tongue so long that it can actually lick its own ears! The Okapi has many names, but the best one is ‘African Unicorn’ because for a long time people didn’t believe they existed! COMPETITION TIME DID YOU KNOW? The Lion, also known as ‘King of the Jungle’ doesn’t actually live in the jungle at all! Only 6% of the land on Earth is covered by jungles and rainforests but over half of the world’s animals live there! It can take up to 10 minutes For rainwater to travel from the rainforest’s highest leaves all the way down to the forest floor! There are some many ants in the jungle that is you gathered them all up, they would weigh four times more than all of the jungle mammals! OMG!
